I picked up magic again during the age of Caw-blade where Jace, the Mind Sculptor reigned supreme.
For all the discussions about how overpowered Jace was, to me the card was incredibly iconic in MTG history--in tournaments, in flavor, in card design. I loved almost everything there was about Jace, tms. People will of course rag on how incredibly overpowered he was. And I don't deny that.
But coming from Legacy, Jace, tms was a card in standard with power sufficient to earn its high mana cost in legacy, and yes even Vintage. Cards like that didn't come around too often, and when they did, it didn't feel like it added flavor to the genre....mental mistep I'm looking at you.
So the card I was looking for was foil Jace worldwake. I couldnt go for the Foil Jace vault 20. It didnt look right or have the appeal of the nostalgia from that era of OP magic. Writers were talking about how the last time something was so broken in standard was ravager affinity. I loved it.
He just kept getting more and more expensive. I held off buying, but eventually caved in. Never regretted it, as memento of that era of MTG history.
I didn't think much of Elesh Norn until I saw her in action. Amazing! Even as a reanimation target with so many tough competitors, she had her uses.
Then the judge promo came out with awesome flavor. Same feeling though. I couldnt justify the cost.
may seem cliche, but Power 9
No luck at a Legacy tournament where an Unlimited Mox was one of the top prizes.
No luck with Zendikar Priceless Treasures (but I did get a Revised Bayou, one of the original duals I was missing)
The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale. I always loved just how strange this card was, but I still just can't bring myself to buy a copy. Time Walk. I regret selling mine way back in '99 or so. It was so beat up you'd think someone put it through the washing machine on their extra turns, but it was still a Time Walk.
I never got the chance to play with a lot of the Legends cards, having started about 6 months too late, there are a lot of cards there that I would have liked to try.

Cards are game pieces, and should be treated as such, easily replaceable.
Cards are not money, investments, or a retirement fund, and should never have been treated as such.
Wizards made a mistake caving to speculators once, and we still pay for that mistake 2 decades later.
"Entitled:" the entire ad hominem fallacy condensed into a single word. It doesn't strengthen your argument to attack motivations, it just makes you look like you don't understand the argument.
A fixed modern legal Mental Misstep, by fixed I still mean free, but it has to be mechanically tied to blue; reveal an island / blue card or some such as well as the 2 life to cast it.
Arabian Nights set has always had my interest since I started playing this game, but the card that fascinated me the most was Shahrazad. Like what is this card even? Who thought this was a good idea? The flavor is incredible and the art is lovely and I would love to own a copy.
My first dream card was also Guardian Beast... I longed for well over a decade.. once I got mine I had a masterful artist alter it for me. In my eyes I don't see a mistake when I look at this card. I see accomplishment.
I hope you enjoy looking at this as much as I do! He's guarding a Mox Jet. Nobody can take control of his artifacts!
