i recently pulled a Darigaaz Reincarnated and figured i'd make a commander deck around it, so it did, but while looking through cards i found one i thought to be useless called Thirsting Axe. one duel later i pulled thirsting axe and equipped it to darigaaz, then i realized i put my opponent in a rather sticky situation, either this monster of a card could deal straight 11 damage to him and go away for 3 turns, or he could keep blocking it to take less damage but in return keep it alive so it could attack again. this made it to where i had a constant re-occurring choice for my opponent where there was no way out, either keep the threat alive by trying to save yourself, or let it severely cripple you so you can live, and your opponent would have to live this over and over and over. i know there are easy answers like exile darigaaz, or destroy the axe, but just as a whole is rather interesting, what are your thoughts on this?
I mean, unless you're somehow abusing the fact that Darigaaz is dying and entering the battlefield repeatedly, I don't think I would want to use this interaction. Sure Darigaaz mitigates the Axe's drawback, but it's not especially good as a combo, since the bonus is just +4/+0 with no extra abilities and if you have enough mana to cast Darigaaz you probably have enough to use a better Equipment anyway. If the power bonus being cheap is important to you, O-Naginata can go on Darigaaz for the same equip cost and 2 less to cast and although the trample is redundant it's only 1 less of a power bonus, and a 10-power creature is almost always going to be an 11-power creature unless you realllllly need to get that commander damage win in two swings.
There are tons of better equipment. Why use something that will automatically kill your own creature when there are many other equipment/aura/effects that can do they same, or more, at the same cost or cheaper? Why would you even want your giant flying haste dragon to die and go away for three turns when it's more useful on the field dealing 21+ damage?
