I'm not one to complain about about specific cards too much (I even think Teferi isn't THAT bad, but I will never understand how Banefire got approved), but this card seems to go far beyond a reasonable powerlevel. In playing it and playing against it, it pretty much means game over once it is cast. I've had it in one of my decks for about a week now, and have run up against it plenty to learn that once it is cast, your chances of dealing with it are in the single digits percentage wise. I've managed to clear one opponent with it, and have never yet had anybody successfully remove mine. Just curious to see what yall think. I know people say 'buhh it costs a lot of mana' but it's only 6, and I've never had an issue coming up with the mana. blue and red in general have limitless ways to stall play until you're ready.
Well, sure Niv-Mizzet, Parun is strong, but he costs 6 mana with a color weight that punishes 3+ color decks. He ought to make a splash at that CMC. Keep in mind that Niv actually doesn't protect himself except from countermagic. He's great when you cast him with mana to spare for countermagic, but that requires 8+ mana or Sarkhan, Fireblood. Else, he just eats removal. If that removal spell is an instant or sorcery, he'll replace himself and ping something, but you don't get that with Conclave Tribunal, Ixalan's Binding, The Eldest Reborn or some other enchantment-based removal spell. Compare Niv to The Scarab God, which ruled standard. Scarab costs 1 less with more forgiving color weight, comes back to hand when killed, and makes an army from everybody's best dead creatures on top of incidental life loss and scrying. Niv is a bomb by all accounts, but he's no scarab god.
The last bunch of Niv never really saw constructed play, as you spend 6 mana for a creature that just dies to removal and thats all you get.
Niv only really could do anything as a commander to combo kill the entire table right away, thats all it "really" did and does.
If you can cast it now, you get at least some cards and by that a ping, thats more than nothing.
The casting cost is highly restrictive, as any colorless land or 3rd color is a significant cut.
Niv is pushed by WotC so it has any chance to see play in standard, and even at that pushed level its still quite a stretch as the format right now is trending to be crazy fast, and playing Niv isnt really doing anything if you are flat out dead at that point / or a Teferi just says -3 back to the library, have fun.

Plenty of rares and mythics in current generation of standard are GROSSLY overpowered in terms of limited to a degree that they dont just outclass any other drop in the same manacost but win a game on their own and blank a lot of removal at the same time, so winning against these cards demands the opponent to have very specific high tier removal or bombs of their own.
I always hate that in limited if its a format that comes down to bombs, but at least Ravnica has a lot of removal so a single big creature really should not win on their own, but its mostly unavoidable as constructed is just filled with all the cards that are flat out ridiculous in Limited.
I'm sorry, what? Banefire isn't even pushed, much less broken.
Banefire is... a little pushed? I dunno, it's between a $3-5 card depending on the vagaries of Magic and it's a go-to finisher for Burn.dek in many formats, but X burn spells can't remotely be called broken without Channel behind them.
Back on topic: The obvious solution to Niv is to play more removal, especially some that is on artifacts or enchantments (or yes, creatures; Ravenous Chupacabra doesn't need another reason to be played in the decks that use it but there you have it). The Scarab God was a scourge precisely because there was little way to deal with him and have him stay dealt with, and I'm saying this as someone who adores that card.
Niv-Mizzet doesn't have any protection for itself and doesn't have a game ending effect when he is cast/summoned, so I don't know what you're talking about. If Niv really was game breaking and overpowered you would think UR would be top dog right now jamming multiple copies in the deck. Complaining about it and Banefire but saying Teferi isn't that bad is pretty insane too, considering it's Teferi that's the game warping card in Standard.
it's a go-to finisher for Burn.dek in many formats
Outside of EDH and casual, traditional X spells tend not to be very good even if they have uncounterability riders attached. Burn is many things, but it's not traditionally a deck that overlaps with ramp (which, along with control, is the archetype that would actually want a big finisher) seeing as most incarnations don't want to have more than 4-5 lands out, maximum.
I've played against Grixis decks in sealed & limited which ran Mizzet as a finisher. They were pretty fun to play against because either I got to see some entertaining bs or I got a free win because they didn't draw enough red sources despite having a deck of like 20% lockets.
I wouldn't call Parun OP, just a little pushed to make up for the casting cost.

Parun is a very powerful card, but it might not find a home. It requires a straight blue-red deck that wants to go to the late game. If that exists, you have a staple. If not, it won´t see play.
Look at the YYY cards from Dominaria. Chainwhirler is a format defining card, but it would see zero play if mono red or red with a slight splash wasn´t already good. Same with Steel-Leaf.
