Spoilers are coming out still, but I got the feeling the best of the set is probably already been thrown out into the wild as usual, so this is my top five cards that will probably be worth picking up. As for the timing to pick them up, that is going to really depend on the market conditions and how long it takes the supply to catch up with the demand. I highly recommend not buying anything until the prices settle after release because it is likely these cards will drop in price or just hang pretty close to where they are.
So here we go!
1) Assassin's Trophy -> Hype hype hype! Literally, that is what is fueling this things price and it is 100% warranted. It's the game one removal spell for Golgari that gets sided out for more effective removal game 2 or 3 if needed and will be all over standard for the next two years.
2) Mission Briefing -> Hype hype! Only two hypes on this because it's kind of like a Snapcaster Mage. It will probably see play in control shells and possibly some izzit builds.
3) Ritual of Soot -> The sign that we will never see Damnation again. It's the best sweeper in the format and let's be honest here: You'd probably be using Vraska's Contempt against a big target.
4) Price of Fame -> Absolutely solid choice in this meta thanks to all the legendary creatures. This is at uncommon mostly because it is much more niche than it appears.
5) Disdainful Stroke -> It's a sideboard staple in the coming format and a way to help control decks that want to go big.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
Lazav is the only for sure thing I will be picking up, and that's because of sentimental attachment to the original. There's other stuff I've my eye on for EDH, but that's all at the moment.

So what would be those things if you only could get five cards from the entire set? It doesn't have to be a must pick or anything like that and the order really doesn't matter either, I'm just curious what they are.

Will get an Assassin's Trophy once the price settle's down... for now, all I can put on my SCG cart are fun cards for casual decks.. affectionate indrik, crackling drake, never happened, nightveil sprite, and ochran assassin.
Honestly, I liked a bunch of cards on the final spoilers. Not sure if the new Browbeat is a thing, but the Experiment Two Pelt Collector and the self mill enchantment look good.

Musts for Everyone
Shocklands - With them being even cheaper than when RTR came around it's another great chance to stock up. Chromatic Lantern - This dropping in price is huge. Grab them while they are cheap.
Personal Musts Thousand-Year Storm - A lot of fun to be had with this card. Goes in my Melek EDH all day. Niv-Mizzet, Parun - I think this could be a nice Standard finisher along with doing some fun stuff in EDH. It'll probably replace one of the other Nivs in my Melek EDH. Knight of Autumn - Goes great in Roon and other decks, plus I bet it'll replace a few Reclamation Sages in what few decks play it in Modern. Izoni, Thousand-Eyed - One of the few legendaries I like in this set. Plaguecrafter - A better Merciless Executioner is great. I'll be getting a few copies of this one, and it goes great in Mazirek.
Maybes Divine Visitation - Always fun in tokens Drowned Secrets - Mill is always fun. Risk Factor - I think this card could easily be a 4 of somewhere, and I've always wanted to make a deck with solely cards like these. Mnemonic Betrayal - I think this can do some fun things in EDH. Trostani Discordant - This might show up in Standard and hold the ground pretty well.
1. Omnispell Adept - busted card, yes I would like to cast my sorcery as an instant for 3 mana instead of whatever the original cost is.
2. Chemister's Insight - I will miss Glimmer of genius so this will have to replace that.
3. Ionize - because R/U wizards is a deck
4. Risk Factor - I love this card and can't wait to play it in my wizards deck and dragons deck
5. Niv-Mizzet, Parun - for my legends deck, I don't need to cast him, I have other ways to get him into play
Lucky for me, I don't play Golgari, Boros or Selesnya, so I'm only interested in Izzet cards for my wizards deck and maybe some Dimir cards. I can't wait for the next set to be able to get cards for my fav guild Azorius and for Orzhov based decks since my legends deck is W/B so I got almost nothing from this set to use in that deck.

There are actually a bunch for me, but the top are:
1. Trophy - I do think it's way overhyped because maelstrom pulse really is just years better at just one more cmc. It's still solid 2 mana removal though. GB in modern is shaping up to have game against everything now that it can interact with lands.
2. Knight of autumn - I love creature ETB decks, especially with combo variations. This just does so much for so little. I'm the most excited for this I think. Really wish it was an elf.
3. That new jumpstart browbeat variant - yes its a lot of mana, but it's a crazy good effect and if you can bin it off something like brutality or lotv it's just really solid. Card draw is always good, and 3 mana repeatable draw is priced to move.
4. Pelt collector - that being said I'll probably pick up most of the elves in foil.
5. The new elf that's a glimpse of nature on a stick - drawing cards is just flat out good.
6. That convoke exile uncommon - that's a strong spell if you have enough token generators. Heck even the new tostrani spits out 3 bodies, make if it cost effectively one mana off the back of casting her. I could see soul sisters, tokens, humans, and more running it in modern. Seems incredibly good in edh since the format lends itself to army in a can style cards. Convoke tapping for colorless or the creatures color is just icing on the cake.
7. Some of the surviel cards seem fun. Casual, but fun. I figured thoughtscour would have been a given reprint here with new art. Fits dimir flavor and greatly boosts the mechanic without printing redundant effects. Maybe next set.
8. New vraska- dat art. So smug, so good.
9. That pay life draw cards white enchantment - card draw mang. Crazy good in edh and soul sisters imo.
All in all I'm excited for the set. They did a really good job imo. I like the fall themed cards a bunch. It's something I've wanted for some time. Honorable mention for new tajic as well. Art looks absurd but the card mechanics looks like a fun kit.

Lazav, the Multifarious: Seems the most interesting for EDH purposes
Ochran Assassin: Finally lure paired with a basilisk
Doom Whisperer: Great card for my cube.
