I have been going to the site magiccards.info for well over 15 years now, using the site for quick tcgplayer price inquiries and printing proxies when I want to finish a deck, but am waiting for cards to come in the mail or through trades.
I am not 100% when the acquisition of magiccards.info took place, as it has been at least 3 or 4 weeks since I have visited the old sites.
I began to dig around the Q&A section of scryfall.com (https://scryfall.com/docs/faqs) and learned something lame: scryfall "has no plans for proxy printing..." Seriously, what da hell?!?!
I don't like the purple undertones or the formatting. I'm used to the simplistic look & feel of magiccards.info. Why couldn't they leave it alone, while still owning it. The FAQ doesn't even explain any details of their hostile take over.
What is everyone's thoughts, who had previously used magiccards.info? Do you like or dislike this? What do you think about the site skyfall.com? Is this another case of a "relic" moving on or phasing into something else?
I thought in real we witnessed brick & mortar properties get bought out & changed [good example, a city I grew up in a had a rollerskating rink that was closed down & turned into a Tower Records (which can be seen as either a win or a loss). Then Tower Records went under and it bulldozed. Years later a Walgreen's opened up in that very same spot].
Magiccards.info R.I.P. Ash to ashes, funk to funky, Major Tom is a junky...
There will be a learning curve to adapting to the new site, but I don't mind it. However, I do miss the simplistic layout of the old magiccards.info site.
However, it would seem that the owner just lost interest in the game and the site itself. Here is his reply from over on Reddit.
I really appreciate the kind words. They mean so much to me.
The truth is that I lost interest in Magic a long time ago, and with it, also lost my connection to the community. But I had built the site with a specific goal in mind, to provide a simple but very fast and powerful card search engine, and I always knew this served a particular audience. Maintaining the site, keeping it lean, that became my hobby, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
But as you noticed, I've started dragging my feet and adding new editions became harder and harder. There are so many promos, and extras, you wouldn't believe it, and I fell further and further behind. I also wanted to add new features and improve existing ones, and build a better mobile experience, but I couldn't find the time to do so. (I realize the irony in the desktop experience being a pretty good mobile experience, how well it aged!) On top of that, I got emails every day telling me about how this card is translated wrong in Spanish or Korean, sending me scans and encouragement and telling me that I suck. Last month I had to accept that this was no longer sustainable.
When I discovered Scryfall it was everything that I imagined MagicCards.Info would be some day. It's different, and I know very well how hard change can be, but please give it a shot. What makes this game is the community, and they're trying to build one. Only a community can maintain a site this like, and a site like Scryfall deserves one. Send them your feedback, listen to their responses, and support them. That's all I can ask for.
Thank you for all your support over the years. It's been a pleasure!

Sorry for another post, but the site glitches won't let me edit my above post.
There is a feedback link at Scryfall. I urge everyone who used magiccards.info to tell Scryfall to bring back the proxy printing feature. Remind them you won't be using their site without it and any ad revenue they are trying to generate will be lost on lack of clicks/interest. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I noticed the change and saw Scryfalls announcement about their acquisition. I didn't think anybody cared enough to post about it so I didn't think to post about it. No one posted about the cheater that was recently caught with proxies or Jeremy being punched a few weeks back so.... :/
One of the promises Scryfall had made is backwards compatibility with all of Magiccards search urls. At last for a while. I do a lot of searching and filtering for land cards. As soon as the change over occurred, all of the urls that used
c:l
broke. I haven't quite worked out how to filter by card type properly on the new interface or the syntax involved so I have to search on Gatherer again when I'm on my phone.
I HATE the change too. My internet is painfully slow. It takes a long time for the pictures of the cards to load on this site. I also don't like that they don't give you the text of the card in a seperate box unless you click on it. This site is so much slower than magiccards.info
What are the choices as far as magic search sites? Is it just between this and the gatherer? I'd love to find another site with a more stripped down approach to searching magic cards. So sad to lose the best magic search site ever!

We are humbled to announce that Scryfall has acquired magiccards.info. The owner of magiccards.info reached out to us in July to ask if we were interested in taking over the site, and we’ve come to a friendly agreement to assume responsibility for their traffic and links.
Over the coming weeks, magiccards.info card, set, and search pages will start redirecting to Scryfall. Some developer-centric features will become deprecated and will be supported on Scryfall’s REST API instead.
Scryfall will also be using data from magiccards.info to improve our own database, especially non-English cards printed before Invasion block.

I rarely used MCI's proxy feature, but I frequently used it for quick reference and for most of my magic card searching needs. In fact, I have Chrome set up so that if I type "mci " into the omnibox, the rest of what I type becomes a magiccards.info search query.
I was mostly worried about syntax changes between MCI's search and Scryfall's search. However, looking at their syntax documentation, I think the only difference between the two is that MCI used "ci" for color identity, while Scryfall uses "id". Of course, the only format I play is Commander... the only format where a color identity search is relevant.

Please keep this discussion strictly to the acquisition change, and subsequent changes. Promoting websites to obtain proxies, even for paper inserts (with card artwork), goes against WotC's policies and this site's rules. This also goes for printing methods.
I was also very dismayed and disappointed in the loss of magiccards.info. objectively, scryfall.com is fine--at least it's not gatherer. even providing thorough documentation for their API. Unfortunately it doesn't work on my dear Opera 12 browser. So I had to resort to rebuilding my own search engine which I had abandoned for years.
I do like the toolbox and Purchase links options. And I like the additional format listings like 1v1 commander and penny. I guess I'm ok with the update
