My young kids recently got into MTG with the welcome decks. I am looking to buy them more cards. I saw online that you can buy bulk common and uncommon cards for a reasonable price. Does anyone have any experience or advice when buying bulk cards like that?
i purchase bulk commons for my own purposes, paying $30 for 5000 cards. What you get is obviously random so i dont know how far that will get them in terms of deckbuilding. You may be able to get cards from local card shops when they hold draft tournaments as most of those cards dont end up going home with ppl. There are plenty of budget deck ideas out there that could be built cheaply as well
If you're intending to play standard research decklists and buy singles, you'll save a lot of money. The reason people stick to certain formats is to balance the power level of decks. I've seen a lot of casual play where someone suddenly acquires some excellent cards and continuously wipes everyone out.
If your kids would like to play Standard, I recommend looking up what current and popular Standard decks are like, have your kids decide which they want, and then buy the cards for them. If your kids are just playing kitchen table casual Magic, anything will do. eBay and other places will have bulk deals everywhere, and it'll be fun for your kids to explore a massive breadth of what kind of Magic cards are out there. Standard is just scratching the surface.
