"[S]ome players with highly tuned fingers may notice a different feel to your Dominaria cards at Prereleases this weekend. As part of our adoption of best practices from our primary printer in Japan, we're rolling out a new coating method for cards in English Dominaria booster packs that we believe is best in class. Tom's first article will explore the finer points of card coating and what that means for feel, playability, and, yes, even that new-card smell."
I didn't know they have their primary printer in Japan now. I was still under the impression they still partner with Cartamundi (https://cartamundi.com/en/cases/magic/) and produce cards in factories in the Netherlands and the US.

Still convinced the guy on Beseech the Queen is wearing a Mitra-type hat. Wake up sheeple!
Well, from what I've heard the coating hasn't fixed the curling from people who are opening them. Going to have to wait and see how things go after pre-release.

I didn't see anything in their press release/announcement that said that the new coating was to address curling. I think the community collectively assumed that was the case. Card stock issues are still very concerning, but they won't admit it's a problem until after they've fixed it.

Can you name all of the creature types with at least 20 cards? Try my Sporcle Quiz! Last Updated: 6/29/20 (Core Set 2021).
Am I the only one who's had major issues with card warping? I'd estimate 70% of my 7 prerelease kits from the weekend had a dimple in the middle - if I hold the outside edge of the card and push it back and forth it pops. Might just be my sweaty hands, though.

I opened...a lot. For me at least, haha. One box, a 2HG pool, 20+ packs from the prizing form the pool. The only card I had that curled was Fungal Plots. The rest of my stuff, including all my foils, were 100% AOK fine. I love the new coating. A little tweaking on this and you should be good to go!

The "Crazy One", playing casual magic and occasionally dipping his toes into regular play since 1994.
Currently focusing on Pre-Modern (Mono-Black Discard Control) and Modern (Azorious Control, Temur Rhinos).
Find me at the Wizard's Tower in Ottawa every second Saturday afternoons.
I think it's safe to say that any reports about card curling are from either extreme cases this time or just the typical foils curling. I've not heard anything about card warping post pre-release, which is usually a good sign for things.
