Gravely incorrect. False accusations must be swiftly cut down, or they encourage more grandstanding and accusations. Apologize for what?
First, let's be clear: there are no false accusations here. I can pick a random video from basically any of his accounts and see him insulting or otherwise belittling others. The degree might be up for debate, but nobody can say with a straight face that Jeremy does not habitually call-out and otherwise mock basically everyone. Saying they are false accusations is downright deceptive.
Second, obviously he should have apologized when he realized what a *****-storm he'd caused, i.e. when he learned that Christine had singled him out as the primary cause of her leaving. Regardless of his personal feelings about the degree of his "memeing", as he likes to call it, he should have recognized that his actions offended her in some unintended (at least, I pray it was unintended but I seriously doubt it) way and reached out to sincerely apologize to her. To ask her what, exactly, was the problem. To ask what he could do to fix it, if possible. To, generally speaking, act like an adult. Instead he acted like a petulant child, threw a temper-tantrum, and now continues to refuse to acknowledge any blame on his part while casting himself as the victim of a witch hunt. Some of us might recognize that as the exact opposite of the thing he should have done.
I certainly don't condone the harassment he's received (almost entirely as a result of his own actions, I might point out), but I have to admit the amount of irony at work here is just absolutely delicious to me. I just hope the irony isn't lost of Jeremy, and that he grows as a person because of this ordeal, but judging from his earlier reactions I'd say that's not terribly likely.
I've been taking a break from Magic lately, and logged in to Twitter to this veritable ***** storm days ago. I looked at a few things, saw the same tired memes, the same division of language, the same lack of basic human decency, which unfortunately informs the VAST majority of American political, societal and cultural discourse.
@Joban8 hits on it well just a few posts above.
This is just the most recent example of a string of issues going back years, over a decade probably. I feel the rise of the Internet as the vehicle for conveying platforms, thoughts, and messages is going to be seen as one of the most detrimental developments of all time. :]
It gives ideologies which should not have it, and individuals who believe in them, a disproportionately loud and impacting voice.
Not all views are equal. Not all idea's deserve to exist. Not all thoughts, stand up in the light of an Empathetic world.
My grandparents, my wife's grandparents, fought against diseased world views. Why are they gaining more acceptability in the US and Europe especially? Because we are not calling a spade a spade. Racism is vile, Sexism is vile, and people who appeal to the lowest common denominator 'it was just a prank bro!' are vile.
I do not believe people should receive death threats, regardless of the void of character they show. I do however feel abuse should be denounced, abusers should be ostracized, and a united front put forward by the large organizations (in this case Wizards) upon which those people make their money that negative behaviors are not accepted as part of an inclusive, and empathetic community.
Years and years ago my wife stumbled upon blog's for MRA's and MGTOW's and assorted other ideologies. At the time I looked things over, and just laughed it off. I did not think something so backwards could persist, but it has.
Last year, watching Trump's lead up to the election, I looked things over, and just laughed it off. I did not think someone so backwards could win, but he did.
The World, but especially the lens which North Americans (I am Canadian) view the world through, American Media of all Types, is divided. We do not have such strong divisions in Canada. Sure there are issues like Jordan Peterson (who I feel I support, more than I disagree with btw, and Antifa has a presence on the west coast where I live, who I also will support, more than I disagree with btw) but there are lines which people should not be crossing.
There are good Conservatives in this world.
There are good Christians in this world.
I have family who identify as the Canadian versions of both, while I am neither. We do not hate each-other though, and we all recognize that ideologies such as Nazism, are wrong.
With all the #MeToo, I had several sisters, aunts, and cousins comment, as yes, they too, have encountered negative behavior patterns which we as a society, should not support.
The individual who harassed this woman, is a meme. He's a troll. He appeals to a lowest common denominator of thought, and an angry subsection of this community which is present in the same MRA type groups which I found repulsive years ago.
Unfortunately, those people have number. These are not views which we can foolishly ignore as comical basement dwellers, or misguided groups of racists who could never get someone like Trump elected.
I apologize as I have rambled on here, but in the end, the only short answer is 'People should treat eachother with Empathy'. Its hollow though, because the American brands of Christian, of Conservative, and yes of the equivalents on the Left, do not seem to be able to reconcile.
Posts in this very thread illustrate that, and its unfortunate that we as a global society have allowed it to happen.
Gravely incorrect. False accusations must be swiftly cut down, or they encourage more grandstanding and accusations. Apologize for what? Offending a girl 6 months later? Now who is infantalizing women?
It was not a false accusation. At worst it was an exaggeration. He did, in fact, engage in harassing behavior. Insulting people publicly, believe it or not, is harassment particularly when you are acting as a public figure, which is was to his followers. It doesn't have to be illegal forms of harassment to be harassment. WotC CoC doesn't stipulate it has to be illegal forms of harassment for it to break their CoC. This isn't new, it isn't about being PC or on an SJW crusade; this is not rewarding grown adults who don't want to play well with others. If he doesn't want the consequences of being treated like an ass, he shouldn't act like an ass and child who spits on the other kids. If he wants all the freedom of acting like an ass, he has no right to whinge and moan when it catches up to him. Playing Magic, having a youtube Channel, a Twitter handle, etc. are all privileges. Privileges that can be revoked, unilaterally. Do you know what the fastest way to have your privileges revoked is? By being as ass. If you were a terrible child who spit on other kids in Elementary school, you had recess taken away. If you do the same when you are an adult, the repercussions are more severe because we expect more out of adults.
Believe it or not, but being an edgelord does not get rewarded when you are an adult. Being an edgelord gets you punished, hard, because nobody wants to deal with. This isn't about PC bullocks or whatnot, this has always been the case going back thousands of years. You decide to insult people, particularly publicly, and there are repurcussions. He is damn lucky we live in the PC world we do, because if he was the insulting ass he is back when I was growing up he would have had his teeth kicked in as a best case scenario. Now he mostly just has people telling him he is an ass, and may get banned from playing a card game because he is an ass. The horror. The PC world we live in is making sure all he is seriously facing is some minor repercussions. And the world not resorting to violent vengeful behavior is good thing, and the result of being PC.
If we lived in the world Jeremy wanted to live in, he would have had the tar beaten out of him years ago. We, fortunately, do not live in that world. We do not reward people for being an ass, and we never have. This is not new.
Finally, to drive home the point: Life isn't fair, nobody owes you anything, nobody deserves anything, you are the reputation you cultivate, suck it up and grow up. If you want to rebel against the "system" of acting like a damn adult, you will be treated like a damn child. Jeremy has for the better part of two years decided that he cares more about acting like an ass and "telling it like it is", insulting people in the process. That's fine, but you have no right to assume that people won't call you out on this crap, and you have absolutely no right to assume there will be no repercussions for this.
I think what has happened here is unfortunate and disgusting in many ways. Jeremy is not acting in a way I think is acceptable. However I believe the way this discussion on this site is being handled is also objectionable. There is an obvious bias, politically, here and it is being enforced by the moderators. And that is unfortunate.
On this very page, of this thread, a warning is issued saying
"Public Mod Note (Wildfire393): Warning for trolling - "Alt-Left" is just another way to blame "the SJWs""
This is a fine warning in a vacuum, but earlier "alt-right" was used to no warning, check pages 1, 6, and 7. In these posts, people are relating an entire wing of the political system as Nazis, racists, and the like. This is obviously false but serves a political narrative. One where everyone who does not share my political opinion is a terrible human being and as such I must discredit them with name calling.
Since Mtgsalvation is a private entity, it is free to moderate as it wishes in this regard, but it should be aware that such open bias will drive away a significant portion of the potential readers (43-48% depending on poll in the USA). And many of these people you drive away, are good, respectful, smart people. The moderators are right, bullying and harassment of any kind is wrong and indefensible, but the politically charged name calling that is being promoted here is not much better.
So I urge the moderators, and the community as a whole, to fight against bullying and harassment to the best of your ability. But remember that bullies and jerks have no over-arching political affiliation, and acting as though they do is naive.

This is a different howler monkey, I think. This one has had an account for years, but last posted over two years ago.
Of course, "alt-right" is a self-identifier (after all, there is a magazine called Alternative Right), and the term is derived from Alternative für Deutschland (and there's a damned good reason no other German political party wants to form a coalition with them, such as one AfD leader saying that Germans should be proud of World War II).
The other term is just centrists insisting Both Sides Do It.

Thank you, HL, for answering the alt-right/alt-left question before I had a chance to. Alt-right is indeed a self-identifier. There is no group that identifies as the alt-left.

Here is the funny thing, the name calling within this very thread about how bad name calling is, didn't even warrant an infraction. And yet people claim no moral equivalency.
Hmm... seems Jeremy made a video about how "Betrayed by my friend Boogie2988" on his TheQuartering channel. He even got angry towards the later half of his video, ends it even on an angry note before credits.
He also proceeds to lash out at The Professor, again, in this same video. Also apparently The Professor is Jeremy's sworn enemy now?
Also that Boogie and Professor apparently forgot to mention that Jeremy/He "is the one to do whats right" and also that they have "no excuse to put him in this light".
Apparently Boogie and The Professor's video count as slander and propaganda. That Boogies was "way over the line". That both videos apparently portrayed him as "some evil mad man".
Also he believes that Boogie and The Professor's videos were a coordinated effort against him.
That Boogies & The Professor's videos also infuriates him. So much so he demands an apology from them.
Is also not a fan of the fact that Boogie tries to be neutral and calls it "hypocrisy".
Also Jeremy is insulted that he would be considered the instigator in cyber bullying.
Jeremy also is stunned and wants to know what changed with Boogie in that earlier in February he [boogie] didn't believe memes and jokes were cyber bullying.
I personally don't know Jeremy but he sounds like an unrepentant troll and I really can't dig that. Like this issue has grown beyond the original things with the cosplayer chick. That its more about a troll who was roasting others and then when he got roasted big time, he takes great offense to that.

While many of the videos and tweets leading up to this were deleted, this is not the place to debate whether or not this actually happened. If you'd like a succinct run down, the Tolarian Community College has a video that does a decent job of giving a summary of the events. This isn't to say don't look in to it on your own, just that this isn't the place to argue about whether or not it took place. Clearly, someone felt like it was real enough to leave.
The TCC video isn't the only possible video to watch for a summary of what happened, but it does cover most of the bases in one go.
Well, Jeremy is going to have problems for a long while because the sensationalism he thrived on has turned against him. It's the fate of a lot of people who just want to shake hornets nests without any kind of self restraint for views. He is in a position that no matter what he does or says in relation to the scenario, he will be the villain.

But here is the thing. As a defense Jeremy even stated that for instance his twitter account for UnsleevedMedia is a troll account and people shouldn't be so upset. So we can't call him a troll based on his actions? Words? Even admittance? Because that is somehow flaming him rather than stating the obvious or informing the unaware? As normally accusing another of being a troll is a bit harder to prove without admittance or actions blatant enough to warrant being considered a troll.
Its like saying I can't call a bird a dodo because that might be offensive to birds even though the bird in question is a dodo.
Why is someone who is claiming to be a troll making videos crying about people judging him on it? If hes a troll he got the attention he wanted. Shouldn't be getting butthurt that people decided to troll him back by getting him banned.

Per the forum rules, calling someone a troll is trolling. Even if they call themselves a troll. If someone called themselves a slur, it wouldn't be okay to then use the slur on them.
For anyone interested Jeremy's going to be on a livecast tomorrow called tommyc'ssftp on youtube 3pm est. The show takes callers so I'm hoping it will be interesting.
I think he's his own worst enemy personally. I'm pretty good at seeing both sides of the story no matter if I agree with them or not, but Jeremy approaches things to try to get a reaction. It's less about his message and more about his approach.
The response to and reaction against Jeremy has been worse than anything Jeremy himself did. That's all I have to really say about the matter.
Not really. While I do not condone people doing the same to Jeremy, the people he has targetted in the past (including Christine) faced pretty much the same thing. Christine herself received death threats in no small part because Jeremy went on several tirades about how she is ruining the game.
I really have no sympathy for the man, at all. You reap what you sow. He pulled crap like this on other people, and now he complains its happening to him. I do not have a single tear worth shedding for him amd his self imposed victim complex problems.

Most of those tirades were deleted by the man himself in response to the initial backlash.

Don't be obtuse.
It is pretty damn obvious what he was doing when he rants about SJWs killing the game by involving identity politics in the game, and then uses Christine as an example in said rants. He equally rants about how she is preying on young boys with her sexuality (Which she didn't), effectively calling her a sexual predator for it; he also rants about how Wizards wastes times with cosplayers to the detriment of the *real* problems with the game, using Christine almost every damn time as a direct example. Hell, he even directly drug Christine into his anti-SJW rant about Spike being female, and how Wizards is ruining the game with it, for no damn reason as Christine didn't involve herself in the gender politics discussion at all.
On top of this, he actively encourages and praises his fan base to troll people he disagrees with, and has lauded them in the past for getting him banned or blocked by various users by joining his brigades.
What do you think the end result would be when someone specifically calls out a person by name in his rants about what the "real" problems with the game are and why the game sucks, and has praised his fanbase for being miserable trolls on his behalf in the past? Any even remotely intellectually honest person knows full well what he was doing and anticipating for an end result. I have grown wary of this nonsensical denialism.
He decided to weaponize his fan base by getting them riled up and pointing them at his personal and political rivals by whipping them into a frenzy and encouraging them to be trolls. I have zero sympathy, at all, when the same happens to him. I don't condone the behavior, but I certainly won't (and do not) feel bad for him.
He also gets the harsher treatment over others, as he is the instigator in this whole mess. Others should be dealt with, but if you start a fight then you get the larger punishment.

I really have no sympathy for the man, at all. You reap what you sow. He pulled crap like this on other people, and now he complains its happening to him. I do not have a single tear worth shedding for him amd his self imposed victim complex problems.
Do you have evidence of these tirades? Or should I just listen and believe?
He is actively trying to make himself a martyr to spring-board himself into being a well-known personality the likes of Sargon or whatnot. There is a reason he was practically begging people to interview him last week about this.
