We have another Standard environment with a top level Lilliana and Gideon. I get you want to push the Gatewatch but the same ones is a little tiring.

When we started with the Gatewatch storyline, we began with the assumption that the Gatewatch, the core five, at least, should always be represented on planeswalker cards in Standard. (And remember Standard was 18 months at the time.) As we started to roll this plan out, we got feedback from many of you that this was problematic.
Yes, you wanted Gatewatch planeswalkers but we didn’t need to do them so often. You wanted the opportunity to see other favorites return or have new planeswalkers in some of those slots.
We heard you, but we work far ahead so there’s always a gap before you can see us react to feedback. Hours of Devastation was the first set that we could revamp how we did this. So starting with Hour, we’ve pulled back significantly on how often Gatewatch planeswalkers appear. They’ll appear when it’s important but at a much slower rate. We will use those slots instead to do more returning and new planeswalkers.
So it looks like from here on out we will less of the Gatewatch taking up the planeswalker card slots. A good guess would be one or two a member a block either as the main character or color filling.

One to two per block isn't too surprising, really what it should have gone down too. It's a good time for them to start splitting up anyways, Amonkhet is clearly going to be a doozy of a block for them, seems like a good time to start taking things slower.
Thank god, it's gotten SO tiring seeing the same cards over and over again
I'm far from a fan of the Gatewatch, though, so naturally that's my opinion
It does seem like everyone was getting tired of seeing the same planeswalkers with just minor changes from card to card, though

To be frank, I want less planeswalkers end of story. This is just too much with the last few sets having so many cards centered around planeswalkers, planeswalkers as the pushed mythics of the sets, Gideon being the most dominant card in all of standard forever (and now likely having his next card doing the same), etc. The sets should be about the plane and the people on it, not how the out of town gang are wandering around being saved by plot convenience and then being dragged around a city by the writers.
It feels like we'd have more constructive deck building discussions and even spoiler discussions if people weren't getting blind sided by the extreme planeswalker cards.
1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
Well despite this, the new Nissa got a new colour, which I think they could've made a new walker for instead IMO.
Also COlt has a good point: planeswalkers take over the hype of a set, mostly, and overshadow cards and card mechanics. Personally I think they should be like they used to be, fewer and far between, but it seems that every set's story is defined by a walkers presence. It makes sense, I just think they're going to get to a point, where they almost are now, where they run out of design space and overpower or reprint other walkers.
I'm an idiot and collect walkers so, I'm in this for the long haul...
