Looking at some cards, well, I'm forced to conclude they're going to have to come up with something else, some other symbol for colorless mana down the line. Because otherwise cards like Void Winnower and the like are going to have just a double line of C symbols. It's going to be ridiculous. Unless they do something like algebra equations: "Sol Ring: Tap; add 2xC to your mana pool."
What do you think they'll do to make it look better?

Void Winnower doesn't cost <><><><><><><><><>. He costs 9. So that's already taken care of.
And if you look at Sol Ring on Gatherer, it's Tap:<><>.
It's no different than having a line of suns, water drops, skulls, fireballs, or trees, across the top of your cards.
But it is different. G can pay for a G cost. Prior to this change, it also could pay for generic mana costs. Depending on how they choose to make this work, things could get very complicated indeed. Not like it wasn't already, though...
I'm so confused - is colorless mana solely a OGW thing? Because I thought it was replacing all generic costs and mana generated by cards.
What you're confused by is the fact that in the past colorless mana and generic mana were represented by the same symbol. 1 in the cost of a card represents generic mana, that is mana that can be anything. 1 in a cards text represents colorless mana, which has a type it isn't generic. C in a cost represents "must be paid with colorless" just like the colored mana symbols represent that you must pay with that color. C in the card text represents that colorless mana is produced, which can then be used to pay for either C costs or generic costs.
No card generates or has ever generated generic mana, but they do generate colorless.
Yep. I for one jumped onto the "diamond mana is a sixth color, **** you Rosewater!" bandwagon when the first two cards were spoiled. Since then, I've realized that Wastes being a basic land without a subtype interacts with even eternal formats just fine, it actually adds value to painlands such that they're not strictly better than duals, and seeing Wasteland/Ancient Tomb/Strip Mine reprinted in foil is pretty awesome.
The difference between colorless mana and generic mana has existed since Alpha. (Although the specific term "generic mana" was introduced with 5th Edition.) The only change that has occurred is that the two now use different symbols.
There's no such thing as "generic mana", exactly. Only generic mana costs. These are costs that can be paid with any type of mana (coloured or otherwise).
This is something they were perfectly clear with in Alpha (look at an Alpha Sol Ring), but then they screwed up with Nantuko Elder and kept screwing it up until now.

Alpha, Beta, Unlimited, and Revised, not just Alpha, if we wanna get technical.
Guys, look at the new Kozilek. He doesn't cost <><><><><><><><><><>, he costs <><>8
Not ALL colorless is going to change, obviously, or in the set that the new <> came out in would clearly have no colorless/generic (it is going to take me some time to stop referring to generic as colorless).
Also on Sol ring, no, just alpha, beta, and unlimited, not revised, if I understand his comment. Alpha/beta/unlimited sol rings say "Tap to add two colorless mana to your mana pool". Revised says "T: Add (2) to mana pool"

I basically only play EDH:
Damia, Jenara, Xiahou Dun, Mareth, Nekusar, Oloro, Kresh, Deretti

I meant "at the beginning" rather than specifically in Alpha. If you want to actually get technical, you would go all the way up to Nantuko Elder. Like I said.

How, at this point, is anyone coming to these forums still confused by this and starting threads about it. The rules regarding <> have been thoroughly and clearly outlined on the official website, and repeated in detail in every thread on the subject on this forum.

Onering's 4 simple steps that let you solve any problem with Magic's gameplay
Whether its blue players countering your spells, red players burning you out, or combo, if you have a problem with an aspect of Magic's gameplay, you can fix it!
Step 1: Identify the problem. What aspect of Magic don't you like? Step 2: Find out how others deal with the problem. How do players deal with this aspect of the game when they run into it? Step 3: Do what those players do. Step 4: No more problem. Bonus: You are now better at Magic. Enjoy those extra wins!
I think they could technically create mana sources that only produced generic mana (which could only pay for generic costs), but I don't think any such mana source currently exists and I doubt they'd introduce that confusion or that there would be any benefit to doing so.
What do you think they'll do to make it look better?

WUBRGPauper Battle BoxWUBRG ... and why I am not a fan of Wayne Reynolds' Illustrations.

1 will still be one mana of any type. C is just a new type thats always existed.

No they don't.
They kept calling it colourless mana (spelled out like that) all the way up to Odyssey. Here's Worn Powerstone from Urza's Saga, here's Archaeological Dig from Invasion, etc. Nantuko Elder is where the change started. It worked perfectly up until there. Then they screwed it up, and now they're fixing it.
