Does anyone use playmat tubes ? Im thinking about buying a ultra pro one, it has a hard plastic, rubber top and bottom and keeps ur playmat tight. Alot of the reviews i see about the monster tube, people complain about the weak bottom.
Can anyone helps on that ?
While I don't own any tubes(No playmat. ;-;) I imagine the monster tube would be better, due to it not being completely round. That way it is less likely to roll around in a flat surface.
That being said, if you put your tube back into your storage, like your backpack or case, then perhaps rolling around won't a be problem.
If I had a playmat, I would go for the monster tube, just in case there's ever a flat surface involve.
I bought one of the Monster tubes when I first heard about them, they seemed like they would be great. It was completely broken within a week. The plastic it's made from is very thin and fragile and cracks easily and the bottom is not attached all that well. After that one broke I got the UltraPro one and I love it. The plastic is nice and thick (I even accidentally stepped on the thing and it didn't break) and it has caps on both ends so you don't have to worry about the bottom breaking. Then only negative is that it's round and it will roll off the table, but besides that I think it's a far superior product.
As Eretoryi mentioned, shipping tubes are a great way to carry them. They're fairly cheap and very durable.
A search for "Mailing Tubes" should yield some results.
The mailing tubes have a stopper on each side, if you're worried about the bottom ever falling out then just put some packing tape over that end or gorilla glue it in or something.
I can't vouch for the Ultra Pro ones, but if I recall they're just thin clear plastic. You can probably reinforce that a bit on the outside the same way if you're concerned.
If you're looking for some nice quality, I think Alvin makes tubes for blueprints and art prints - not sure if they have playmat sizes, but I'd bet the thickness is greater than that of Ultra Pro's stuff.
PVC Pipe. Put a cap on one end and leave the other end open or get a threaded pipe and a screw on cap.
Custom size (for multiple playmats) and you can paint it too.
I'm using the Ultra Pro one and I've been happy with it. I have a lot of mats but just use my one mat for whatever mat I'm bringing with me at the time
I found out that the Ultra Pro tube is too small to comfortably fit double sided playmat and I had trouble getting my Narset one in and out of it. The monster ones seem to be bigger and fit it in just fine.

I genuinely wish I saw this before I ordered and received one for my Delver mat. Hopefully my brother will let me trade him my Ultra Pro for his Monster one. I want to make sure this Delver mat stays frosty so I can resell later.
I can confirm that the Ultra Pro tube is a little on the thin side, regarding diameter.
