Start with some Clockwork Gnomes-PB triggers on the stack. There are many Psychic Battles on battlefield. Clockwork Gnomes card is on battlefield, with no haste token. There is one untapped haste Anaba Ancestor on battlefield, but the card is in hand. Chalice of the Void, Engineered Explosives and Wheel of Sun and Moon are in hand. Allay is in hand; False Memories is in graveyard; Goryo's Vengeance, Hurkyl's Recall, Select for Inspection, Muzzio and Mox Emerald are in exile.
Play Chalice of the Void with X=2.
Use some Clockwork Gnomes-PB triggers to get Mimic Vat, Mirror of Fate copied, and some C and U.
Use one Clockwork Gnomes-PB trigger to destroy Clockwork Gnomes card, imprint. Then get a haste Clockwork Gnomes.
Cast, counter, then resolve one Bloodbond March trigger on Anaba Ancestor. So this push some Anaba Ancestor-BM triggers on stack.
Activate the haste Anaba Ancestor, pushing some Anaba Ancestor-PB triggers on stack. And destroy Anaba Ancestor card, imprint and get haste token from Mimic Vat.
Use some Anaba Ancestor-PB triggers to bounce and replay Changeling Hero: (some use of Mirror of Fate omitted)
Put Goblin Dark-Dwellers off and on to cast and counter False Memories. The copies from Thousand-Year Storm move False Memories, Goryo's Vengeance, Hurkyl's Recall, Select for Inspection, Muzzio and Anaba Ancestor from exile to graveyard.
Put Goblin Dark-Dwellers off and on to cast and counter False Memories. Its copies move False Memories, Goryo's Vengeance, Muzzio and Anaba Ancestor from exile to graveyard.
Put Goblin Dark-Dwellers off and on to reuse Goryo's Vengeance, getting haste Muzzio. Activate to fetch Mox Emerald. After getting G, animate to kill Mox Emerald, exiled by Mimic Vat.
Exile Muzzio.
Put Goblin Dark-Dwellers off and on to cast and counter False Memories. Its copies move False Memories, Goryo's Vengeance and Muzzio from exile to graveyard.
Put Goblin Dark-Dwellers off and on to reuse Goryo's Vengeance, getting haste Muzzio.
Now the stack looks like:
Top
Group of Anaba Ancestor-PB triggers
Group of Anaba Ancestor-BM triggers
Group of Clockwork Gnomes-PB triggers
Maybe other abilities
Resolve down to an Anaba Ancestor-BM trigger, bring the card on battlefield. Then let all the Anaba Ancestor-BM triggers resolve with nothing happen. Now Clockwork Gnomes card is on battlefield, with 1 haste token. There is 1 untapped haste Anaba Ancestor, along with the card, on battlefield. Chalice of the Void is on battlefield with X=2, but Engineered Explosives is in hand. The stack looks like:
Top
Group of Clockwork Gnomes-PB triggers
Maybe other abilities
Activate haste Clockwork Gnomes. Depending how many Psychic Battles are present, the group of Clockwork Gnomes-PB triggers could grow a lot!
Activate haste Anaba Ancestor, pushing some Anaba Ancestor-PB triggers on stack. And bounce the card to hand.
Cast, counter, then resolve one Bloodbond March trigger on Anaba Ancestor. So this push some Anaba Ancestor-BM triggers on stack.
Animate to kill Chalice of the Void, exiled by Mimic Vat. (As the post said, now we cannot use False Memories.)
Play Wheel of Sun and Moon.
Play Engineered Explosives with X=2, spending UG. Activate. Engineered Explosives goes to library.
In response play Allay with buyback, destroying Wheel of Sun and Moon, and then return to hand.
Resolve the ability of Engineered Explosives. Destroy all Anaba Ancestors. With the card imprinted on Mimic Vat, get one haste Anaba Ancestor.
Play Allay with buyback, destroying Bloodbond March, triggering Verdant Succession and the Mimic Vat for Anaba Ancestor.
Let Mimic Vat trigger resolve. Anaba Ancestor go back to graveyard. Bloodbond March move to exile, then use Mirror of Fate to move it into library.
Let Verdant Succession trigger resolve, fetching Bloodbond March.
Let one Anaba Ancestor-BM trigger resolve. Anaba Ancestor card is on battlefield.
Now there is 1 untapped haste Anaba Ancestor, along with the card, on battlefield. The stack looks like:
Top
Group of Anaba Ancestor-BM triggers
Group of Anaba Ancestor-PB triggers
Group of Clockwork Gnomes-PB triggers (grown a lot)
Maybe other abilities
Let all the Anaba Ancestor-BM triggers resolve with nothing happen.
Use one Anaba Ancestor-PB trigger to bounce Anaba Ancestor card to hand.
Activate Muzzio to fetch Chalice of the Void.
Use one Anaba Ancestor-PB trigger to switch Goblin Dark-Dwellers off and on, reusing Select for Inspection, destroying Muzzio, imprinting and getting a haste token. Activate to fetch Engineered Explosives.
Use one Anaba Ancestor-PB trigger to bounce and replay Changeling Hero, champion Goblin Dark-Dwellers.
Use one Anaba Ancestor-PB trigger to bounce Changeling Hero. Goblin Dark-Dwellers ETB: cast Hurkyl's Recall.
In response play Changeling Hero, champion Vedalken Orrery.
Hurkyl's Recall bring artifacts, including Chalice of the Void, Engineered Explosives and Clockwork Gnomes card to hand. Vedalken Orrery is in exile.
Use one Anaba Ancestor-PB trigger to bounce Changeling Hero. Vedalken Orrery go back to battlefield.
Play artifacts, setup the utilities.
Now we come back. The top of stack is still a group of Clockwork Gnomes-PB triggers, but grown a lot.
Briefly, the logic is:
Each use of Engineered Explosives (it also forces to remove Chalice from battlefield) needs Hurkyl's Recall, which clean haste Clockwork Gnomes and generate 2 alternative groups of Anaba Ancestor abilities (PB triggers and BM triggers).
Each time the group of Clockwork Gnomes-PB triggers exposes to the top (so we are able to make haste Clockwork Gnomes), we need to use-up 1 alternative group of Anaba Ancestor abilities. (When bottom group of BM triggers used up, Anaba Ancestor card is on battle field, and we can activate haste token to make PB triggers; when bottom group of PB triggers used up, Anaba Ancestor card is in hand, and we can cast/counter it to make BM triggers.)
To balance alternative groups of Anaba Ancestor abilities, each use of Engineered Explosives allows the group of Clockwork Gnomes-PB triggers exposing to the top 2 times. One of them you cannot save any haste token, but another of them you can do something.
@hyp_cos: It's been a while since I've looked at the Chalice of the Void decks, but I can confirm that at the time I left off on working on them, I did not have a working finite version of the Chalice deck, though I was very close. I think the infinite outlined in your post just now was one of the ones I identified. I do have a list of cards Wizards could print that would make the combo work, all of which seemed like plausible designs, none of which actually wound up existing. The closest one I think was if Metallurgeon didn't cost W to activate. That said, the Chalice Deck's main advantage over the more traditional decks that we were working concurrently on somewhat was space efficiency: it saved I think 5 or 6 card slots off the non-chalice version that in turn translated to an additional 2 or 3 stages. That's a huge improvement to the absolute numbers, but in terms of advancements it's much less so. Even if it worked with no infinites, my best Chalice deck wouldn't be able to match a traditional deck if the traditional deck got the handicap of access to a 15-card sideboard. Now that we have these uncomputable decks that blow everything we created before out of the water, there's not much point trying to fix the CHalice version, so feel free to look at an older and more reliable gigastage deck as a reference for our best computable deck.
That said, I do regret that we never managed to finish a write-up for any of the decks between the SadisticMystic 408-layer deck and the uncomputable decks in vintage. A huge amount of effort and thought went into the peak computable decks, and they really were impressive accomplishments in their own right. We just never quite stabilized for long enough to write one up before finding something new.
Regarding the current deck, I've been thinking about ways to add an extra stage to the list in post 4050. Before Black Lotus, it doesn't look like we have any way of generating abundant Green mana, but it's hard to find something we can't bounce with either Aegis Automaton or Stolen by the Fae: the only options I see are shroud creatures or something like Progenitus. The other option I can see would be to have a green mana stage in between the white and blue mana stages, which would allow us to use any green creature with protection from blue and some way to bounce that creature to hand that is only monocolored. The only kicker is that we can't use a green creature as the converter from green mana into bounce triggers, or we could just bounce that instead.
We use Storm Front to tap Surgespanner, which lets us bounce Karoo Meerkat (we can use Dralnu's Crusade to hack Surgespanner to not be blue, bypassing protection, but can't do so for Stolen by the Fae) to make Bloodbond March triggers, creating the stack. Then at the top we can use it to bounce our blue creatures to generate blue mana. The problem is that since Surgespanner's ability costs a blue on resolution, we're at best breaking even, so we need some way to turn a Surgespanner bounce into large quantities of blue mana, which can't be repeated by Stolen by the Fae. That's where I ran out of ideas.
Whatever the specific deck is, I think the main problem is that Muzzio, Visionary Architect can fetch the stage creature.
Suppose we have a group of stage creature-PB triggers on the stack. The stage creature card is on battlefield, with no haste token. Use one PB trigger to imprint the stage creature card on Mimic Vat (or imprint on Soul Foundry, with some global haste effect), then we can get one haste token. Activate it, then the group of stage creature-PB triggers can grow a lot, but the card is in exile. We then do the hyperstage transition; no matter how it looks like in details, as long as there is Muzzio, Visionary Architect, we can fetch the stage creature card. After the transition we come back to the original state, with the group of stage creature-PB triggers grown a lot.
Yeah, there were a few writeups started but new tech kept invalidating them before they were even half done. I think the chalice deck is the best computable strategy going forward, due to the space efficiency. But not currently working is annoying.
As for the current deck,
Sneaking an aegis automation through the transition is possible with my Call to the netherworld idea and lets us go infinite.
We cast, counter, return, bounce, discard, return the aegis automation to have it in play over bloodbond march triggers, then set up the transition as I described a few posts ago.
Then we go up through the transition with the AA in play. Gaining life, then spending 2 to bounce it to be useful above.
Then resolving down we keep it in hand and will be able to add an extra Syphon-Mage activation after resolving worldfire and the next computation, going infinite.
So we need another way to get kick started after a worldfire, maybe Radiant fountain as our one land?
For the green stage one thing attractive about Storm Front is that there are a few ways to single out tapped creatures for bouncing. Like Surrakar Banisher, but I don't see it quite fully working out yet.
@hyp_cos: Yeah, I spent a long time trying to figure out a way to use up all of the Muzzio, Visionary Architect tokens we could generate, but in the end there just wasn't a way I could see, at least before we got into uncomputable land. If you're still thinking about it though, I'd be very interested in any way you might find for that, though!
For the current deck, I think Radiant Fountain is too cheap: whenever we don't need to spend the 2 life to gain 4 (which I think is the majority of cases, since we only have to activate Urborg Siphon-Mage below the hyperstage if we don't have enough instant casts left to set up the hyperstage and computation again), we can just spend that life directly to cast Lingering Souls and reset the computation without needing any of the extra stuff. I may be misunderstanding some other line of the deck, but I think a better angle of attack would be to find a card to replace Urborg Siphon-Mage which does NOT require black mana to gain the life, but still requires discarding Aegis Automaton.
Pretty much every other discard a card:gain life effect has been examined already. Peace of mind is probably the next closest but gaining 3 does not match up well with k'rrik.
Faith of the Devoted was another card we looked at. The problem is that you have to control the number copies of Faith of the Devoted that you have on the battlefield. So not having Opalescence was an idea. But, since we needed 6 copies of Dralnu's Crusade, we would need to use something like 4 copies of Dralnu's Crusade and 2 copies of Copy Enchantment. Then, we could have 1 copy of Faith of the Devoted, which along with the two Copy Enchantments would give us 3, and then use the 6 life gained to cast [c}Army of tne Damned[/c].
But, that's a lot of used up card slots of course. Stern Constable tapping a Vampire Envoy looks better. (although that would kill the Stormfront stage)
Start with Engineered Explosives and Razorfin Abolisher card in hand, Jade Bearer on battlefield.
Play Engineered Explosives with 1 charge counter, then activate, destroying Jade Bearer. The death triggers Mimic Vat and Verdant Succession.
Let Mimic Vat trigger resolve. Jade Bearer card is in exile, but do not get the token.
Play Razorfin Abolisher, get Bloodbond March triggers.
Get Jade Bearer token. ETB effect targets and then destroy Razorfin Abolisher card. Imprint and get a haste token.
One Razorfin Abolisher-BM trigger fetch the card. Other BM triggers do nothing.
Let a Verdant Succession trigger of Jade Bearer resolve, fetching the card. The ETB ability bounce Razorfin Abolisher to hand.
Now Razorfin Abolisher card is in hand; Jade Bearer is on battlefield - they are still at the same zone as before. Engineered Explosives is used, staying in graveyard; with Salvaging Station we can get it on battlefield, with no charge counter. To get the 1-charge Engineered Explosives, we still need Rebuild.
Briefly, one play of Engineered Explosives gets 2 ETB of Jade Bearer. To get a haste token we need one destroy (imprint) and one bounce (BM trigger) at different place of the stack. Perfect match.
Use one trigger of group A to destroy the card, imprint and get a haste token.
Use one trigger of group B to fetch Metallurgeon card.
Activate haste Metallurgeon, getting back the group A triggers. Now there is one tapped haste Metallurgeon.
Top
group of Metallurgeon-PB triggers (group A)
group of Metallurgeon-BM triggers (group B)
Maybe other abilities
Next, loop this:
Use 2 triggers of group A to bounce Metallurgeon card and Vedalken Orrery.
Other triggers of group A can make some utility artifacts. Keep the last one.
Play Vedalken Orrery, get Mirrorworks triggers, but do not let them resolve.
Activate haste Razorfin Abolisher, get Razorfin Abolisher-PB triggers.
Use one Razorfin Abolisher-PB trigger to bounce-replay Boggart Mob, getting Goblin Dark-Dwellers off and on, reusing Battle Cry. (Edit: to keep Boggart Mob on battlefield, we need to clean Panharmonicons)
Now we have one untapped haste Metallurgeon.
Cast-counter Metallurgeon, getting BM triggers. Activate the haste Metallurgeon, getting PB triggers.
Top
group of Metallurgeon-PB triggers
group of Metallurgeon-BM triggers
group of Razorfin Abolisher-PB triggers
group of Mirrorworks triggers of Vedalken Orrery
Metallurgeon-PB trigger (group A)
group of Metallurgeon-BM triggers (group B)
Maybe other abilities
The loop can be done as long as there are haste Razorfin Abolishers. Finally we will get the bottom layer, with the stack:
Top
group of Metallurgeon-PB triggers
group of Metallurgeon-BM triggers
group of Razorfin Abolisher-PB triggers
group of Mirrorworks triggers of Vedalken Orrery
Metallurgeon-PB trigger
group of Metallurgeon-BM triggers
group of Razorfin Abolisher-PB triggers
group of Mirrorworks triggers of Vedalken Orrery
......
Metallurgeon-PB trigger
group of Metallurgeon-BM triggers
group of Razorfin Abolisher-PB triggers
group of Mirrorworks triggers of Vedalken Orrery
Metallurgeon-PB trigger (group A)
group of Metallurgeon-BM triggers (group B)
Maybe other abilities
To get Engineered Explosives back to hand, we need to use up one group of Razorfin Abolisher-PB triggers.
Actually, most Razorfin Abolisher-PB triggers except the last one can reuse Battle Cry, getting more untapped haste Metallurgeon from tapped ones.
The last Razorfin Abolisher-PB trigger in a group reuses Rebuild, getting Engineered Explosives to hand, removing all Vedalken Orrerys and all haste Metallurgeons.
Even though there are Razorfin Abolisher-PB triggers on top of stack, we cannot do anything, including regenerating one haste Razorfin Abolisher. To regenerate it, we must wait for a Mirrorworks trigger of Vedalken Orrery.
However, there is no haste Metallurgeon, so we still cannot do any growth from Battle Cry. We must wait for a Metallurgeon-BM trigger below a Metallurgeon-PB trigger.
Activate one haste Razorfin Abolisher, we get many Razorfin Abolisher-PB triggers, which put Cowardice trigger of Boggart Mob on stack, which put the champion-back trigger on stack, which put Goblin Dark-Dwellers ETB triggers on stack, which can put Rebuild and its Thousand-Year Storm triggers on stack. They "glue" each other on the stack - we cannot insert any Mirrorworks trigger between any of them.
Here is the second important thing: There is a reusing "chain" of Engineered Explosives - Jade Bearer - Razorfin Abolisher -> Boggart Mob -> Goblin Dark-Dwellers. No later one can reuse previous one. No one reuse itself.
There is no tap-self-target creature in this transition, otherwise we can let the Mirrorworks triggers and Metallurgeon-BM triggers exposed to the top of stack 2 times per use of Engineered Explosives.
2. Why is Panharmonicon necessary in gigastage? I don't understand it clearly.
3. How does Polluted Dead-Frightshroud Courier stage work? Frightshroud Courier costs B to activate, which seems to eliminate the B from destroying Bayou one time. (Edit: Oh I may get it. One activate of Frightshroud Courier cause 2 dying of Polluted Dead; one is the card with imprinting, the other is the token from Mimic Vat.)
5. Can we use "return target instant or sorcery card from graveyard" things as the beginning layer after the gigastage? This will cancel the layer of X-cost instant/sorcery at the end, though.
6. Can we use K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth to cancel the existence of B in our mana pool? Doing so enable the usage of 5-mana creatures such as Sea Snidd.
There's the trick with Sanctifier en-vec + a colour hacking spell to replace dralnu's crusade, which could save slots in a faith of the devoted version.
(this deck is missing an artifact creature to actually discard)
Is there some way to get Draconian Cylix to work instead of Stern Constable to save white? I don't see it being safe currently as it would let us save necromancers on our side.
X is bounded, so the number of targets per resolve of Thousand-Year Storm trigger is bounded. One resolve of Reality Spasm-TYS trigger cannot bring X to f_{w^4+w*6}(X) yet. To do this we need a group of Reality Spasm-TYS triggers, meaning one play of Reality Spasm from hand.
Precursor Golem may do something, since the number of Golems at each resolve of Reality Spasm-PG trigger can be large. One resolve of Reality Spasm-PG trigger can bring X to f_{w^4+w*6}(X), then one play of Reality Spasm bring X to f_{w^4+w*6+1}(X).
(It doesn't copy Words of Wisdom, so the start would use Reforge the Soul.)
AND......
I found an infinite loop in this Battle Cry-based deck.
Use the Metallurgeon-PB trigger to destroy the card, imprint and get a haste token.
Use one Metallurgeon-BM trigger to fetch Metallurgeon card.
Activate haste Metallurgeon, getting group of Metallurgeon-PB triggers. Now there is one tapped haste Metallurgeon.
Cast, counter, and resolve one BM trigger on Metallurgeon, getting a group of Metallurgeon-BM triggers.
Activate haste Metallurgeon, getting group of Metallurgeon-PB triggers. Again we can make some growth except the final two.
The second last Metallurgeon-PB trigger bounce Vedalken Orrery. Replay, triggering Mirrorworks.
Now there is one tapped haste Metallurgeon.
Top
group of Mirrorworks triggers of Vedalken Orrery

Now important things come. Each BM trigger we can cast <=3-mana instant 2 times.
Let one Boggart Mob-BM trigger resolve, fetching it.
Due to Panharmonicon, it push many champion triggers on stack. Use one to exile Goblin Dark-Dwellers, then use one to kill Boggart Mob card, triggering imprint and the champion-leave ability.
Let Goblin Dark-Dwellers comes back, casting an instant.
Get a token Boggart Mob, again flicker Goblin Dark-Dwellers.
Move Boggart Mob card to graveyard.
If there is no Mimic Vat, we can still cast <=3-mana instant once per Boggart Mob-BM trigger.
If there is no Panharmonicon, we can still cast <=3-mana instant once per 2 Boggart Mob-BM triggers.
The final Boggart Mob-BM trigger fetch the card, championing Goblin Dark-Dwellers. Without Panharmonicon, there is only one champion trigger, so Boggart Mob now can keep on battlefield.

Resolve one Mirrorworks trigger of Vedalken Orrery. Setup the utility artifacts.
Play Metallurgeon, then Resolve down to a Metallurgeon-PB trigger to destroy and imprint it. Get one haste Metallurgeon.
Resolve one Metallurgeon-BM trigger to fetch the card.
Now we can play Engineered Explosives to get one haste Razorfin Abolisher.
Top
group of Metallurgeon-BM triggers
group of Razorfin Abolisher-PB triggers
Metallurgeon-PB trigger
group of Metallurgeon-BM triggers
Maybe other abilities
Resolve down to a Razorfin Abolisher-PB trigger, bouncing Boggart Mob again.
Edit: I think the main problem is that we can play Boggart Mob for its Bloodbond March trigger. The Chalice of the Void deck doesn't have the thing, because Changeling Hero is not countered when we set Chalice on X=2.
Plummet is an instant that we can save to mess with computation so we want a creature that can kill our Vampire Envoy but not Goblin Boom Keg, preferably black to save other colors for later. It also has to be an etb effect as activated abilities could be used by the opponent to break computation.
Fetching problem (Muzzio, Visionary Architect): Infinite loop because we can destroy the stage creature, gain the PB trigger group a lot, and then use the hyperstage transition to fetch stage creature.
Bloodbond March problem: When we play the champion creature, we can get BM triggers and use them to gain reuses of <=3-mana instants. We can insert stage creature triggers (and Vedalken Orrery gaining trigger) between the "bouncing the champion creature" triggers and champion creature-BM triggers.
Are there still w^4 decks without the infinite loop problems? Or I would go down and look at w^3 decks.
Many used artifact-fetching cards like Muzzio, which would go infinite. But Arcum Dagsson seems to be interesting. It can fetch many artifacts, but not the stage creature.
Many used champion cards like Boggart Mob, which would go infinite if plus we can get their Bloodbond March triggers. Moggcatcher seems to be something avoiding this problem.
However, one use of Engineered Explosives makes 2 alternative group of triggers of Anaba Ancestor, which still go infinite.
Edit2:
Oh no. Arcum Dagsson doesn't require any stage creature triggers in the below. A mirrorwork trigger of Vedalken Orrery is already enough to continue the reuse of Engineered Explosives. More infinite loops.
So with Death pit offering/Draconian Cylix/Bala Ged Scorpion we can avoid white creatures and have something like this:
(also, harmonic prodigy needed to be axed as it lets the Vampire Envoy gain too much life, on the plus side though we don't need Thousand-Year Elixir anymore.)
Also I'm rearranging the first sections of the deck a little as they got a bit scattered.
@FortyTwo: The layer sequence looks good, but to connect Consecrated Sphinx to Moraug, Fury of Akoum, we need to use something in combat to refill the opponent's library. Or actually, Uproot can already do that, so I think Blue Sun's Zenith plus Consecrated Sphinx goes infinite, since we after we resolve the original Blue Sun's Zenith there will be Consecrated Sphinx triggers, and we can put BSZ in the library before we resolve them.
Instead of Consecrated Sphinx, we can put in Search the Premises, which should result in 10 layers with a card slot left over.
The ETB ability of Goblin Dark-Dwellers says "target instant or sorcery card". When an instant card is cast, then returns to the graveyard, it will become another object, then the ability loses its target. The ETB triggers are stick to each other, so we cannot insert PB triggers between them and cannot retarget after one ETB trigger starts to resolve.
At the topmost hyperstage transition, we can cast both Battle Cry and Rebuild, but below it we can only cast one; the other card will be gone from graveyard.
For instance, before a sweeper we reach X combo permanents, then we push a sweeper on stack, along with some growing things. We may reach f_{w^2}(X) or f_{w^2+1}(X) or f_{w^2+2}(X) or f_{w^2+3}(X) combo permanents before the sweeper resolves. Sweeper clean all the combo permanents, bring us back to X.
The only number we keep is storm count, or the instant/sorcery count in Thousand-Year Storm.
(In the w^3 deck it seems that we have no way to keep number through Worldpurge.)
I think we can cast Battle Cry, resolve it, untapping our Metallurgeons, then cast Rebuild? We can then proceed with the higher stage with the spell Rebuild on the stack, not the trigger from Goblin Dark-Dwellers.
Yeah, we know about having to rebuild our numbers after a sweeper. Thousand-Year Storm is one way; we cast some instant or sorcery that gets plenty of copies that can rebuild our resources, like Battle Cry. Another possibility is some other card that depends on some number that gets large, like Vile Redeemer. More recently, we used delayed triggers from Sea Gate Stormcaller to maintain the number after a sweeper. So there are ways to handle rebuilding our resources.
Edit: Ah yeah, the Busy Beaver deck doesn't have a way to get artifacts back. We can use the last card slot for Steal Artifact, I think.
Briefly, the logic is:
@Iijil: What do you think is the best approach for dealing with the hyperstage transition in the Busy Beaver deck?
@hyp_cos: It's been a while since I've looked at the Chalice of the Void decks, but I can confirm that at the time I left off on working on them, I did not have a working finite version of the Chalice deck, though I was very close. I think the infinite outlined in your post just now was one of the ones I identified.
After some poking around, I think one option that we can at least explore is something like:
Surgespanner
Storm Front
Shiv's Embrace (or any other card to grant Surgespanner flying)
Karoo Meerkat
Karoo Meerkat
Skullmead cauldron, trading post, and the underworld cookbook all would look promising if only they didn't have those other abilities.
Ghost-Lit redeemer had been another possibility, but never worked out.
Nihilistic Glee is probably the next best, but has the same problem.
Something like Stern constable tapping a vampire envoy?
But, that's a lot of used up card slots of course. Stern Constable tapping a Vampire Envoy looks better. (although that would kill the Stormfront stage)
Okay I got it.
First important thing is that one play of Engineered Explosives can produce exactly one haste Razorfin Abolisher.
Bottom layer:
With Phantatog we can kill enchantments freely.
To duplicate enchantments, kill an enchantment card, imprint and get token. We may use Mirror of Fate and Verdant Succession to get Bloodbond March card back, or use Mirror of Fate, Perpetual Timepiece and Skull of Orm generally.
Metallurgeon-PB triggers bounce artifacts, then we can replay them. There is only one Mirrorworks, but with Panharmonicon it is triggers many times. Artifacts duplicate in this way.
Layers in Stage:
Metallurgeon works as the tap-self-target creature. i.e. stage creature.
Hyperstage transition:
Start with the utility artifacts, Jade Bearer and Engineered Explosives, along with one Vedalken Orrery token on battlefield. Metallurgeon card is on battlefield, with no haste token. Razorfin Abolisher card is in hand, with N haste tokens on battlefield. The stack looks like:
Use one trigger of group B to fetch Metallurgeon card.
Activate haste Metallurgeon, getting back the group A triggers. Now there is one tapped haste Metallurgeon.
Now I have questions:
1. How can we get the utility (including creatures like Horobi, Death’s Wail, Phantatog, Goblin Dark-Dwellers, Jade Bearer, Bramblewood Paragon, etc.) back after Child of Alara and Worldfire removing permanents?
If we are able to safely get Horobi on and off, Razorfin Abolisher will then be able to tap-self-target, which is dangerous, maybe leading to some infinite loop.
4. Can we add Sea Snidd-Reign of Chaos stage between Old Man of the Sea and Xathrid Gorgon? (Edit: Oh we can't. Sea Snidd has mana value 5, able to be destroyed by Engineered Explosives since we have 5 colors of mana now.)
1. I think we can use either extra TYS copies of smite the monstrous to bounce the big ones, or verdant succession triggers for the green ones.
2. Panharmonicon is needed to imprint multiple sorceries onto the spellweaver helix. And is more useful than extra copies of spider spawning.
Sanctifier en-vec hacking looks better than losing 6 slots to dralnu's crusades and copy enchantment.
Being unable to copy enchantments is a bit rough, but not the end of the world.
But just from a rough draft, the stern constable+vampire envoy version looks better.
Infinite mana supply (Mana Crypt/Mox Emerald + Karn, Silver Golem + Salvaging Station) means that you can cast Reality Spasm with infinitely high X value. How many Psychic Battle triggers you get?
Does one Psychic Battle trigger only 1 time at the play of Reality Spasm? or X times? or 1 time for each target actually selected?
Anyway here's the rough draft of the deck with Stern Constable:
2 Xathrid Necromancer
3 Arcbond
4 Artificial Evolution
5 Wrong Turn
6 Dralnu's Crusade
7 Opalescence
8 Desolation Giant
9 Goblin Boom Keg
10 March of the Machines
11 Vedalken Orrery
12 Spellweaver Volute
13 Pull from Eternity
14 Copy Enchantment
15 Dual Nature
16 Bloodbond March
17 Cephalid Shrine
18 Thousand-Year Storm
19 Mana Echoes
21 Stern Constable
22 Vampire Envoy
23 Thousand-Year Elixir
24 K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth
25 Lingering Souls
26 Stern Proctor
27 Comeuppance
28 Spellweaver Helix
29 Worldfire
30 Essence Harvest
31 Recoup
32 Recoup
33 Restore
34 Blood Moon
35 Harmonic Prodigy
36 Panharmonicon
37 Wormfang Behemoth
39 Chrome Mox
40 Alhammarret's Archive
41 Black Lotus
42 Show and Tell
43 Omniscience
44 Floating-Dream Zubera
45 Marchesa's Smuggler
58 Doubling Season
59 Drafna's Restoration
60 Uproot
(this deck is missing an artifact creature to actually discard)
Is there some way to get Draconian Cylix to work instead of Stern Constable to save white? I don't see it being safe currently as it would let us save necromancers on our side.
Maybe with like plummet and subbing desolation giant for kaervek's spite?
Precursor Golem may do something, since the number of Golems at each resolve of Reality Spasm-PG trigger can be large. One resolve of Reality Spasm-PG trigger can bring X to f_{w^4+w*6}(X), then one play of Reality Spasm bring X to f_{w^4+w*6+1}(X).
(It doesn't copy Words of Wisdom, so the start would use Reforge the Soul.)
AND......
I found an infinite loop in this Battle Cry-based deck.
Start with the utility artifacts, Jade Bearer and Engineered Explosives, along with one Vedalken Orrery token on battlefield. Metallurgeon card is on battlefield, with no haste token. Razorfin Abolisher card is in hand, with one haste token on battlefield. Boggart Mob is on battlefield, championing Goblin Dark-Dwellers. The stack looks like:
Use one Metallurgeon-BM trigger to fetch Metallurgeon card.
Activate haste Metallurgeon, getting group of Metallurgeon-PB triggers. Now there is one tapped haste Metallurgeon.
Use Metallurgeon-PB triggers to get some W; grow enchantments; make some Mimic Vat, Mirror of Fate and Perpetual Timepiece. Until the last trigger.
Anyway, the final cast could be Rebuild, getting rid of Panharmonicons, and get Engineered Explosives and Vedalken Orrery on hand.
The final Boggart Mob-BM trigger fetch the card, championing Goblin Dark-Dwellers. Without Panharmonicon, there is only one champion trigger, so Boggart Mob now can keep on battlefield.
From the above, each Razorfin Abolisher-PB trigger can let us reuse Engineered Explosives, getting one haste Razorfin Abolisher.
Edit: I think the main problem is that we can play Boggart Mob for its Bloodbond March trigger. The Chalice of the Void deck doesn't have the thing, because Changeling Hero is not countered when we set Chalice on X=2.
Gilt-Leaf Winnower
Bala Ged Scorpion
Halo hunter
Surprisingly few options, but any of those seem to work. Bala Ged Scorpion seems the narrowest, so probably what we want to go for.
There's also Sly Spy (version d "etb destroy target creature facing right in its art") if we wanted to be silly.
I'm much more confident in the w^3 deck, since it doesn't have the Engineered Explosives hyperstage which was so complicated. It's described here, but again we can replace Swarm Intelligence and Vile Redeemer with Thousand-Year Storm to free up a card slot.
Edit: Oh, there were also the older w^4 decks with Skyshroud Archer, but I'm not sure which version would be the best to look at.
And I skimmed some old w^4 decks.
Are they useful to make a non-infinite w^4 deck?
Edit:
It seems that Arcum Dagsson fits the Chalice deck quite good.
To let Arcum Dagsson's ability resolve, we need to get rid of Horobi, Death's Wail. The cheapest way is already being championed by Changeling Hero. Vedalken Orrery is not champion, so the only way to get it work is a Mirrorworks trigger below the alternative Anaba Ancestor-PB/BM triggers.
Maybe the only hope is Metallurgeon+Battle Cry+Moggcatcher thing...
(also, harmonic prodigy needed to be axed as it lets the Vampire Envoy gain too much life, on the plus side though we don't need Thousand-Year Elixir anymore.)
Also I'm rearranging the first sections of the deck a little as they got a bit scattered.

which currently has a few problems in the ending layers but should be fine through Animist's Awakening?
One untapped haste Moggcatcher can get Goblin Dark-Dwellers on exactly once, which triggers its ETB ability many times due to Panharmonicon. It seems that we can cast both Battle Cry and Rebuild, but actually it doesn't.
By the way, generally, in a deck using Child of Alara, Worldfire, Worldpurge, or any other sweeper removing all the "combo permanents" (usually Psychic Battle, Bloodbond March, Panharmonicon and Thousand-Year Storm), we cannot keep the number of combo permanents.
Wouldn't even work - Goblin Boom Keg is facing right
