At the time I'd stopped playing, I'd compiled checklists for every set in the game's history. Now that I'm back in the game again, I figured I'd update that project to include recent sets. I also did that the last time I stopped and returned. The old versions have had some popularity here, so here's the new version./
You could type in the documents to keep track of your collection digitally, but these are optimized to print out nicely. I aimed for nice formatting, and making efficient use of paper. The idea is to have the information handy when you're not by your computer.
I did the checklists as Word documents, sometimes one set and sometimes a few related sets. I also have ZIP's of several Word documents
The files are .DOCX (Word 2007 and later)
I have Word 2007, so I went with that default.
I didn't want to mess with file format since precise formatting is key to these.
Older versions of Word can understand this format with a plugin. OpenOffice had problems with these .DOCX's last I checked a few years ago. However, if I have MS Word save as .DOC, and send that to OO, there aren't as many problems. I can do that if there's interest. Also, OO Calc didsn't seem to have a problem reading the Excel versions.
* Lorwyn/Morningtide, Mirrodin/Darksteel/Fifth Dawn, Onslaught/Legions/Scourge, Planar Chaos/Future Sight, Planeshift/Apocalypse and Shadowmoor/Eventide are combined for lower pagecount overall. Time Spiral (including Timeshifted) and Invasion are separate even though for those blocks I combined the later two sets.
(If somebody wants PDF versions of something else, let me know)
Not every checklist looks the same (especially since I assembled them over a large period of time, and tweaked the format for the circumstances of each set). However, the examples above provide a pretty good approximation.
Removed a lot of Coulmn # (Card#-Card#) headers and stopped using those going forward
Time Spiral: Changed columns per page from 3-3-1 to 3-2-2. More even. Formatted columns 4,5 and 6 more nicely instead of jamming them onto page 2. Some smaller formatting tweaks to the Planar Chaos / Future Sight checklists while I was at it.
Scars of Mirrodin block combined: header changed to Times New Roman 12 like the main checklists
From The Vault: Now reads up/down before left/right, and one set split between two columns to make room
Commander: Fit 45 rows per column instead of 44. Easier to use with 9-pocket pages. Did save a column on Commander 2013 also
Planechase, Archenemy, Commander combined renamed to Command Zone Series
Portal 1: Divider columns added, reminder and flavor text abbreviated (as the full words often led to wide columns)
Portal and Starter moved from the Special Sets combined checklist to their own.
Added Beta International Edition, as distinguished from Beta Collectors Edition. Put those, Summer / Edgar and Alt 4th into their own combined checklist
Zendikar intro pack basic lands were already accounted for, but added an entry for them in the checklist summary.
Differentiated the Euro and APAC lands
Included promo basic land in the basic land list
Someone PM'ed me about this, which reminded me to update for Magic Origins.
Also, I hadn't recorded Duel Decks Anthology separately from the original versions of those sets. I fixed that by putting O and A columns in the same checklists. I noticed that I had Elves vs. Goblins alphabetized by card name rather than sorted by proper collector number.
