A letter in their Stumpers column asked, If you Fork a Wheel of Fortune, do you get to cast cards from your first new hand before getting your second new hand? Their answer: no. (To be fair, there is a slight chance this is true with the old rules. I actually don’t know—but it certainly is false with the current rules.)
If I remember the rules correctly, this ruling was correct at the time. The rule was that a "batch" resolved completely before anyone could respond. To describe it in modern terms, it would be something like "When one or more spells or effects are on the stack and neither player wants to add more spells or effects to the stack, all spells and effects on the stack resolve in order before any player receive priority".
It wasn't until sixth edition rules that you could do stuff like brainstorm in response to a spell, wait for brainstorm to resolve, find a counterspell among your top three cards and add to your hand, finish resolving brainstorm, and then use the Counterspell you found with brainstorm to counter your opponents spell still on the stack. You wouldn't have the chance to use any of the cards you found with brainstorm until all spells in the batch (basically, on the stack) had finished resolving.
Another interesting rule was that you couldn't respond to triggered effects. So if you had an Auratog and multiple enchantments in play, and your opponent cast Cloudchaser Eagle, you could not sacrifice the enchantment they targeted in response to the Eagle entering the battlefield (or, coming into play, as it was known). You could sacrifice one or more enchantments before the Cloudchaser resolved, but at that time you wouldn't know which enchantment your opponent was going to choose, and they would still be able to choose on of your other enchantments in play and destroy it once the Eagle entered play.
"The new location does seem more comfortable and is probably more comfortable for your players, but we're not concerned with the comfort of players, we're concerned with getting people in and getting them buying our products."'
How is NOT giving a 100-player based LGS access to magic products going to increase their sales?!

This is what I call a retailtard. My local Games Workshop before I went to university had its manager moved to a larger store in my final year of A levels, the new guy turned up on a saturday and said "No gaming in this store anymore". This was after the regulars had all turned up to game, and we had known for over a month we were getting a new manager and at no point had this ever been said before. A guy had traveled from over the river from Cornwall to come and game cus the old manager had made the store so good. You know what happened to sales on that saturday compared to usual saturdays? They plummeted because the regular gamers who had just been told the store was now basically only a retail space apart from gaming night on thursdays stayed in the store all day *****ing about the no gaming. Which drove away any new gamers/customers. I even got banned by telling him he could have informed us ahead of time and that most of the kids who come in on saturdays are too young for gamers evening since it was for 16+ which meant that they would be forced out of the hobby. And a lot of these kids had parents chucking money at them to spend on the hobby cus it got them away from their computers.
Best bit about the being banned though, he didn't tell me to my face. I left at 6 when the store closed with everyone else, but when I stopped in to say hello to people on my way home from school next week, I was told I was banned from the shop. He apparantly claimed various crap about me "DEMANDING A TABLE FROM UPSTAIRS" which was impossible because A) I know the store wouldn't have room for that and B) We already have 3 gaming tables, he just wouldn't let them be used.
But that's another story. The most important bit is how due to this ban of gaming, the store was eventually closed until it could find another manager because he "Chose to move to another job." and not because he was "Fired because he sold less in a year than the store used to sell in a month." The new manager was good, but sadly the damage had been done and most of the players had cashed out and moved into MTG at a store which had luckily opened at the perfect time as the manager had been alienating the playerbase. As such, the store closed permanently last year.
In other words, much like the GW manager, this guy seems more concerned with sales than promoting the hobby. Which in turn has reduced sales. Why don't people get that a healthy hobby shop with regular players drives sales. Heck, on tuesday I saw a bunch of regulars play the lottery with MM2015, the same players who when I started going who advised me of buying singles instead of packs cus packs were never worth it. They were doing it cus it was fun to do in the store with all the people watching what they'd get.
So is it because the shop serves beer? I don't have a problem with that but that seems to be the conjecture on reddit. If true, you should lay it out there as the reason.
The owner that he does himself a disservice by trying to purely appeal to emotion. I read that tripe and I rolled my eyes. If this is the whole story, then Dunbar is an idiot. I have a feeling there is more to this though. A sales rep wouldn't reduce his sales by his own actions without good cause.
Seemingly no apparent reason is the key here. If Dunbar really showed up and said, "I'm going to be a dick, NO!" then sure, I'd be up in arms too. It makes no sense though, unless your old rep was breaking the rules left and right and maybe giving a "friend" discount as well and Dunbar wants to do things by the book. Maybe Dunbar is in cahoots with a local business that wants to eliminate the competition, I don't know. I'm loathe to take a side when I don't know and the only evidence I have is a bleeding heart diatribe.
I generally side with the little guy but in this case your story makes little sense.
tldr - more explanation on the "retail environment" thing without going off on how much you've invested in the place would be helpful.
The shop it'self doesn't serve beer, the public house which is attached to it does, and the old shop was the same, attached to a pub, there is no difference, so I can only assume there is nothing more to it than I have said.
It is the shop owners livelihood, and he is stating the effect it has had on his life, not sure how he is purely trying to appeal to emotion? we are trying to get our shop back, if you lost your job for seemingly no apparent reason, i'm sure you would have something to say about it. And your local game shop for that matter.
the fact you rolled your eyes kinda sucks, but each to there own about what you sympathise about I guess.
If there is more to it, then I am completely unaware and am just going off of the information I have,
I would like to note that you can't necessarily take the words you heard from the owner at face value. We don't know if they are accurate and by the way you are repeating them, many ppl here may think that Wizards are simply a bunch of douches that want to close your shop for no good reason. I assure you, Wizards doesn't just take away events for no good reason. That lessons their business in the end run. They must have had a good reason to do so.

Have you ever experienced the ups and downs of playing Magic?
Do you love the game, but sometimes wonder why you're still hanging on to it?
Did Magic shape your childhood?
If you're reading this, it's very likely that you went through it.
In the past couple of years, I've faced my share of fun, self-doubt and everything in-between when it comes to Magic. I've gone through periods where I loved the game, and periods where I felt absolutely miserable. Despite everything, there's a reason why I check Magic sites obsessively. Magic is part of who I am.
Encouraged by some fellow players, I started a writing project to capture everything good, bad and ugly about this game I play called Magic: The Gathering. I love writing, but more importantly, I hope to learn something about myself through the process.
I am a long time Magic player and avid gamer. I have been streaming Magic Duels daily and also uploaded some deck videos to youtube. My stream is all about having fun, learning and good vibes! We are also building a great community around the game. If you would like to come check out my stream or my youtube videos. Here is my information. I usually start my stream at 10am or 5pm EST. Check my twitter or steam group for time announcements or follow me on twitch for notification of when I'm streaming.
Currenlty I have a video on a deck for people just starting out in the game using the starter box.
I have been ranked top 100 in previous duels games and have a ton of hours in them. Come check me out!
We published a new beginner's guide for Magic today after weeks of hard work writing it. I hope that you and those you know looking to learn the game find it a useful resource. Feedback and suggestions are very welcome!
Looks very good. But I'll suggest some very minor changes in wording as I read it:
2. Game Resources
Your Library (...) If you are forced to draw a card with zero cards in your library, you automatically lose the game.
I'd reword it as "If you try to draw a card but has zero cards in your library,..."
3. Cards
The Anatomy of a Card D - (...) In our case here, the card is a creature with a subtype Goblin Warrior. The card is a creature with the subtypes Goblin and Warrior
Land Generally speaking, when you use a land called tapping, it generates mana to be used to cast spells,
This reads like the land itself is called tapping, when you mean the action of using it is called tapping. Try something like "when you use (or "tap") a land, it generates..."
* For each of the other card types, you say that in order to cast that card you need to pay its mana cost. It is too repetitive, so you should just state it once, in the Spell entry before the card types.
5. Slinging Spells
Casting Spells ...selecting the part of the spell you are choosing (i.e., when an instant or sorcery says "Choose one --", or choosing the permanent you are trying to attach an Aura to.
You need to close the parenthesis: ...selecting the part of the spell you are choosing (i.e., when an instant or sorcery says "Choose one --"), or choosing the permanent you are trying to attach an Aura to.
Targeting
* Here (and probably in other entries in this part) you're ignoring that Aura spells are also targeted.
6. Playing a Game
Winning the Game
"...This is a very specific strategy for certain decks since the number of cards in the game that can cause a player to get a poison counter. If any player gets 10 or more poison counters, they lose the game."
This reads like there's something missing in the first sentence or between it and the second. Maybe "since the number of cards that can cause a player to get a poison counter is quite limited." or something to that effect.
In addition to these 5 colors, you have Multi-Colored cards (which have gold frames, rather than one of the 5 colors) and Colorless cards (which have silver frames, rather than one of the 5 colors). Finally, you have “Land” cards, which are a Type of MTG card (discussed below) with a specific card frame not seen on the other card types.
This reads a little odd to me, since lands are usually colorless as well. I might say something like this:
"In addition to the 5 colors, there are Multi-Colored cards with gold frames that require two or more colors, Artifact cards with silver frames that are none of the 5 colors, and Land cards with a light-brown frame which, while not having any color themselves, generate the resources required to play your other cards. (Some expansions have additional cards, such as colored artifacts or colorless spells, that use additional frames, but the types listed above are present in every Magic set.)"
Much appreciated, thank you both for your edits - I've made these changes with the exception of noting for each card type that you must pay the mana cost.

These actually look really cool, and I could see backing this. However, they deck boxes only hold 80 or 100 single-sleeved cards. That alone is enough for me to stay away. I double sleeve all my decks and I would not be able to use this for EDH and I would have to pay the $10 extra for the 100 card box to fit my modern deck.
For anyone that single sleeves their deck though, this looks like a unique deck box to set you apart at FNM or other tournaments.
Hey guys, I'm the owner of CompleteMTGSets.com and I'm currently hosting a giveaway on my website's Facebook page, which you can find here. 5 winners will be chosen in about a week to each receive one of the five Zendikar Expeditions slow lands. All the details can be found on the Facebook page. Have fun and good luck!
I have a blog: MTG Adventures. Its mostly about casual play on MTGO. Here is a screen shot. The link is in my signature. Its just me and my hobby (don't sell cards, not affiliated with anyone who does). I also analyze (net) decks, have the occasional commentary, and cube ideas. Its mostly Standard and Modern, but I have dabbled in Legacy and Vintage.
I want to introduce you to the Classic Art Token Project. The project has been a year in the making and I'm finally ready to share it with the MTG Salvation community.
Here are the basics of the project:
The project will be launching on Kickstarter on Feb 2, 2016.
The project will include:
48 Tokens (Growing up to 108+ with Stretch Goals)
5 Playmat designs (Growing up to 9+ with Stretch Goals)
Here is a small selection of tokens from the full set. If you like the tokens, make sure to back the spread the word. The more support the project receives, the more tokens I can include.

What environment does wizards allow LGS to be/have?
On which pojnts does your bar/shop not meet those criteria?
I'm baffled as to why wizards would refuse selling to a place like yours. Is this a political thing?
