ive been keeping up alot with the M15 spoilers and i have to say so far, im very disappointed. i havent seen any cards worthy of even thinking about doing a pre-release for. i was more excited for born of the gods then i am for the core set this year. is this going to be another dud set?it seems like the only hype for this set is in the planeswalkers. if the only good powerful cards in this set are the planeswalkers, then standard really isnt going to change much. and anyone that played competitive and serious magic thru the innistrad time knows that standard rite now is really kinda boring overall. so whats with the pretty good core sets the last couple years and now this one being so bland? are we really going to have to wait until the next block to get anything good?
So with just over 40% of the cards spoiled (most of them reprints) and official spoiler season not even started yet, you're already ready to give up on M15? Get a grip. With just one card they could change the entire Standard meta. Don't believe me? One word: Mutavault.
I would say green is getting treated pretty well at the moment. Un counterable 8/8 with trample for 6, a 7/2 that returns itself for you, Genisis Hydra.... Green devotion looks to be in a good place.
yeah 40%, thats almost half, thats alot. by now theyve spoiled something good but not this time. and yeah theres alot of big green fatties that makes mono green look good, but, those big fatties come with fat mana prices. most of them will be uncastable. plus waiting to cast 6+ drops, chances are there just going to be a banishing light or something in your opponents hand that they thought was going to go to waste.
Greens fatties being uncastable with Nykthos still still being a major factor? I dont think so.... green still has turn one and two mana dorks, and with no good discard spell seen yet, I would say Gx Devotion should do well.
Remember that 15 of the spoiled cards are in the Intro Decks only and don't count towards the set limit, so we've really only got 99/269 spoiled so far. And 20 of those are basic lands, so we're really 79/249 actual cards, which is less than 1/3rd
ok fair enough. id like to see a G/B devotion leaning more to green then black. green creatures with the good black removal to make a path for damage. plus with garruk being 'evil' again, he most likely will be a black/green planeswalker so as long as hes decent and does something for creatures or to your advantage, he could go in as well
Spoiler season hasn't even started on the mothership. They obviously keep the more impressive cards for then. You know at the end of the usual spoiler season where all we are missing are tons of commons and some uncommons, and then the full spoiler is released and we realize it's all limited/casual filler and everyone is disappointed? Well, with core sets, we get to that part at the beginning rather than at the end.
So far, the only things I'm disappointed with is the staff cycle getting reprinted, and the "Soul of ___" cycle which, judging by the first two, feels like a wasted mythic cycle.

Where are you getting Devouring Light, Illusory Angel, Turn to Frog, Shrapnel Blast and Restock from? Not saying they may not be in the set, I just haven't seen them rumoured anywhere.

The only remotely competitive card in that list is the goblin and maybe, maybe genesis hydra although without a lot of library manipulation it's pretty easy to whiff on hitting a relevant card. The rest are limited fodder, except waste not, which is trash in every format ever.
Edit - But the 2/1 for 3 that naturalizes when it comes into play is fantastic. That is a card I am actually excited for.

When they changed the mothership, the intro decks were visible on M15's product page. Sadly, new cards didn't appear, only reprints. But we still got a lot of cards this way.

I am super stoked for Void Snare. The "U: Boomerang a non-land" sorcery. Looks dope.

You must be paying attention at all, then.
Only a small fraction of cards have been spoiled. Here's some cards to be excited for: Reclamation Sage (probably the best ETB naturalize creature ever made, and an elf) Military Intelligence (cheap, and powerful effect) Quickling (Lots of abilities make it versatile/abusable) Void Snare While sorcery speed, its kind of pushing the boundary for blue aggro. Waste Not Lots of buzz around this card, giving benefits to discard can be dangerous, and with Thoughtseize in standard... Inferno Fist Looks very efficient, and probably would have been bonkers in THS block. Genesis Hydra has potential.
Reprints: Sign in Blood (2cmc is a lot more attractive than 3cmc, which is so important, also the infamous sign-in-blood kill) Darksteel Citadel, Ornithopter, and Shrapnel Blast - while standard doesn't have any especially good artifact themes, all of these cards have a lot of potential, especially if they want to push artifacts in the next block or if there's more artifacts we're not wary of in m15. Wall of Mulch Could be a thing, efficient blocker that can allow for CA. Raise the Alarm - very powerful token spell.
I think the set over all will be fine. I am betting on 1 or 2 money rare reprints and some new goodies ala archangel of thune which will be a edh card after rotation but who knows maybe she finds her way into some modern decks. There are some low mana cost stuff that will be begging to be broken in other formats as usual. The planes walkers will can be hit or miss. Sometimes they are a lilly/mindsculptor and sometimes they are not. I will bet one walker will be made for legacy and modern play. That being said the soul cycle based on the two we know of are some of the most terrible mythics we have seen in a while. The blue one is borderline because it is a giant flying fattie and with devotion mechanics you could see it drop turn 4-5.
I have to say I'm disappointed too. Out of everything spoiled so far, only Quickling has me the least bit excited. I don't do drafts or Standard, so reprints don't do much for me unless they come with new art I like or something.

Archangel of Thune is already a staple of modern Birthing Pod decks (Angel + Spikefeeder), albeit as a one-of.

Disclaimer: As per the norm, I am aware some people will disagree with my opinion and I acknowledge there is a possibility that my opinion is wrong. The above post is simply my musings on what I view to be the most likely scenario given the information that is available and I am aware of at the time of typing! Peace.
im not heavily into modern I have a affinity deck and one under construction. But good to know and proves my point there will be a few format transcending cards. Like deathrite was before the banning
Can we stop pretending waste not is going to be a card? It is absolute garbage in anything but kitchen table.
Yeah there's certainly not any reason at all to like a card because it looks fun. The only cards that should be played are the ones that are obviously broken. I mean, Waste Not could have cost 0 and given you mana when you cast it and it still would be garbage! I hate the entire magic community for coming up with such a stupid card then having the audacity to allow WOTC to print this trash. We should all make sure that WOTC never prints another affront to us such as this. Giving us things that were asked for? Insanity!
