As a player who has only been drafting since the winter, I was wondering how drafting will work over the summer and into the fall.
I know that for the next few weeks it will be Jou/Bng/Ths, but what happens in the summer, when Conspiracy and then Magic 2015 are released? Will most gaming stores continue the Theros block draft or will there be a switch for Conspiracy and then again for the core set (or will those be held different days)?
I am aware that different LGSs can do things differently, but I was wondering if there is a "typical" way of doing things. Thanks in advance!
I would think the new draft would be JOU/THS/THS since they would not typically have a double small set in a draft. Not sure what it will be with M15, but Conspiracy is a separate stand alone set (meant to be drafted) that will not be used in regular draft environments except to draft as a set unto itself.

I will always firmly stand by the belief that Magic is a game first and a collectable second.

I get what you're saying, but that is why I was asking the question. Will the Theros block be drafted throughout the summer and early fall, or at some point will most stores likely switch to drafting Conspiracy or Magic 2015 on draft nights? Will many places have a second draft night for those, or will they replace Theros block drafting after a couple of months?
I doubt stores will switch to Conspiracy as a draft set for regular events. Not to say stores will not do it, but it will not replace normal drafts on a regular basis. As for M15, I am uncertain, but I think it will replace the Theros block draft until the new block comes out.

Whether or not stores will draft Conspiracy in place of Journey Into Nyx for their events is completely up to the store. Depending on how popular the set is (and how available), I wouldn't be surprised to see some stores do that.
When the core set hits, most stores will draft that until the new fall set is released.
Thank you for the answers! It sounds about what I would expect, although I do hope that stores will run some conspiracy drafts, as it looks to be interesting, and not all of us have large numbers of friends that play MTG to draft with.
There's a promo for the Conspiracy release, so I'm sure most stores will be drafting it at least once. At the moment, there's no telling how available Conspiracy will be. Initially stores seem to be limited to 3 cases (18 boxes) for the opening order (same as Modern Masters, though a box of Modern Masters is only enough for 8 drafters; A conspiracy box is enough for 12).
Unlike Modern Masters, there's a good chance that stores will be able to get additional shipments of Conspiracy after the opening order. With Modern Masters, that was barely the case (the second order, if I remember correctly, was limited to 1 case, then the following week it wasn't available at all).
I think it makes drafting more challenging and fun personally.
As for Conspiracy, if your LGS is anything like mine, they'll likely do both Theros and Conspiracy draft, just on different days.
None of the new conspiracy cards will be playable in modern or standard, and conspiracy was designed as a multiplayer format. I can't imagine many people paying to play competitive multiplayer, that sounds like a nightmare. Would guess stores could go any combination of theros sets for drafts, especially if Journey int Nyx cards become popular. A lot of people draft to play, but also for the chance to get playable cards. I think once we get M15 it'll be such a huge set it'll be drafted by itself as I imagine everyone will want to play and collect the new cards.
I really liked the idea of a special draft set, but multiplayer magic is the least fun thing I can imagine, and I've done it with friends many times, just so little strategy or fairness involved.
depends on where/how you draft. my LGS im just guessing is going to so some sort of theros draft with journey not sure yet what probably theros born journey then do m15 drafts when it becomes released. Conspiracy i couldnt tell you. my lgs sold all but 2 modern masters boxes and did 2 8 person drafts on seperate weeks and everyone else drafted dragons maze. not that much fun when you get a ash zealot and someone at the other table has a tarmogoyf. yeah it sucked but i was able to get a box so its all good.
Most stores that have the product would offer both JOU/BNG/THS and triple Conspiracy to meet demand. If they have both products on hand, they'll want to sell it & drafts are a good way to do that.

If this draft where both Tarmogoyfs & Ash Zealots were in play was sanctioned, it may need to be reported. All players in a sanctioned limited event must have the same mix of product to start with; if some players had triple MMA & others had triple RTR or DGM-GTC-RTR, that's not how things are supposed to be done.

Trafalgar's post read to me as though his store ran separate MMA drafts and Rav block drafts, not one draft using both sets of product.
