Im not sure if this would belong on this board or another one. My apologies, but, would anyone be interested in playing magic the gathering over skype?
I dont really play standard since a lot of my decks rotated out and i just diddnt change them. I do prefer to play legacy.
I do use 2 banned cards but i dont play those decks a lot. but i use:
Jace the mind sculptor and stoneforge mystic.
If anyone would be interested please send me a message on here.
Huh? Skype has a built in MTG interface now? Since when?
Without it, how would it work?... You just type what you play and your opponent is supposed to assume you're being honest?
Besides, Jace and Stoneforge are only banned in Modern, not Legacy.
I think what you want to download is Cockatrice.
Is this just a Thrun thread?
Lol. I'm so confused.
Anyhow, the best I can come up with myself is a game in the top 8 of a PTQ back during Urza block in which we were starting game 3 with time already expired, so the tiebreaker rule was that whoever had more life after 3 turns would win. And I lost to... healing salve.

Lol. Sorry, sometimes the most obvious things elude my thought process.
I've just never heard of people playing cards with each other over webcam before, but as Richard Anderson would say... "We have the technology!".
Truthfully, I'd rather watch women playing solitaire on webcam, but fortunately I don't even have the time or need for that, so watching guys play Magic on webcam just doesn't seem viable.

I know what you mean, i thought the same thing as first. I tried it a few times and it doesnt seem that bad. That and i have relatives living in different states and we tend to play over the webcam.
I've played with friends using Skype and Cockatrice. It's practically like playing IRL, but better in some respects. It's a lot easier to schedule and you can still interact in what I find is the most important aspects (the game board and social chat). There's a little bit lost (the look on their face when you pull off something absurd) but overall it's I think it's generally worth it.
And yeah, I would really recommend getting Cockatrice rather than try to play with real cards over webcam, it's just so much smoother.
When I get a new webcam I might be interested. That'll be in a couple weeks. I mostly play Legacy, Modern, and EDH. PM me for details if your interested. Though better than waiting on me would be signing up for Cockatrice. Though admittedly that program isn't terribly straightforward.
I've played over Skype with a couple friends in the past as a way to pass time during a particularly boring vacation once. Also many buddies I know have done the same. It works out very well.
I know right? I personally just use cockatrice and skype together so my friends and I can still talk while we play. It just seems way easier and theres no webcam required.

omg! Imagine some sort of plastic sheet that you can place your cards on and have them show up on someone elses? Like those double sided playmats but that one side is a screen which is slanted like a laptop and shows your opponents stuff. You play your crap and a camera sends the image to your opponent!

I see wut you did there........
Which, by the way, made the next few legitimate replies hilarious when read in the same context.
On that note, I suppose playing Magic on Skype is perfectly reasonable to a certain extent, but EDH games or games that go on long enough to need a lot of area are going to make it very clunky, if not impossible.

I would love to play Magic over Skype, just one problem. I am still very new to it, like I have been trying to learn it for a couple days. So I may be terrible at it and need a bit of help. So if that isn't a problem, and you would be patient with me I would love to play with some other people. My skype is yourlifeforhire32. Tenacious Dead

Without inserting any sort of RFID into the sleeves I can see someone doing it with a pair of cameras and touch screen tables. Chinese manufacturers have some really slick rollup screens. A bit of slick code can add some image recognition to recognize any given card so a remote player can simply tap the image of the card and bring up its Oracle text. With RFID tags in the sleeves, you can go to town.
I'm willing to play on Skype, I don't like my local shops much and my friends that play don't have time anymore. I don't play standard ether, I think I play modern but I like deck building so I don't care what format as long as I understand what I can and can't use.

maybe even integrate an interface that will keep track of life totals and what not.

Expensive as hell though.
Might as well use Cockatrice.....
