i tap to the left and i'm right handed. sometimes i catch myself tapping my lands to the right, but as long as they are fully tapped 90 degrees, i personally dont care which direction they are tapped.
however when i attack, my creatures are tapped to the right.
I have always tapped to the right but it never has really bothered me if people have tapped to the left (I haven't even noticed to be honest). Do it whichever way you want.
That said, please, PLEASE tap 90 degrees. It is just lazy to only tap it part of the way.
Also, it does irk me when people play with their lands in front, especially when they play combat-oriented decks. It makes combat so much more confusing and clunky when you are moving your cards all the time.
the tap symbol itself is an arrow pointing in an arc to the right, so I just thought it was obvious.
Yep. I'm kinda OCD, so people tapping every which way bugs the crap out of me, because it seems pretty clear to me that "tapping" = turning it clockwise 90 degrees.
I tap to the right, but only 45 for attacking creatures. That's so I know when one is affected by a "frost" effect (Frost Titan) or perma-tapped where it'll be tapped the full 90.

If you want to be "Correct", the T is to the right, so correct "should" be right.
However, the rules do not specifically state that. They merely state that the board state must be evident at any moment, so any sufficient deviation from the "untapped" state is enough to be considered tapped, and correct.
I tap to the left. I do it because I hold the cards in my right hand, and tap with my left. It is easier for me to touch the card with my index and middle fingers, and then rotate them by curling the middle finger while extending the index finger, thus accomplishing a tap to the left.
Other people prefer to the right. Why? Because it works for them.
BTW, a full 180 degree tap would NOT be correct, as it would cause sufficient confusion in the presence of Kamigawa flip cards, like Rune-Tail, Kitsune Ascendant.

Wow, totalitarian Magic. That guy is raising his children to be intolerant toward other players too, scary. I tap clockwise, even as a lefty, i don't care how anyone taps their mana as long as there are no "varying degrees" of "tapped". Choose an angle and stick with it, as most do, so that there's no "kinda tapped" and "mostly tapped".
Alvayse to zee left! Watch your goose-step around him apparently.
I voted right, but after thinking about it (I rarely get to play paper Magic these days, so I kinda forgot how I tap hahaha), I think I do it to the left...
The only time I ever tap cards left is when I'm involved a multiplayer game and attacking more than one player simultaneously. To make things clearer for the table, I'll tap creatures to the left when attacking a player sitting to my left, and tap creatures the proper way when attacking a player to my right. If I'm in a four or six player game and attacking the player(s) across from me, I'll position those creatures to the center of the playmat and put others to the left or right of the mat accordingly to make things even easier for others to distinguish.
Anyhow, the best I can come up with myself is a game in the top 8 of a PTQ back during Urza block in which we were starting game 3 with time already expired, so the tiebreaker rule was that whoever had more life after 3 turns would win. And I lost to... healing salve.
I tap to the right for lands, abilities, and when attacking. Creatures with summoning sickness I place upside down.
That would be an illegal board state, especially in any format outside of Standard, in which Morph is legal. You play a creature like that and you will definitely cause me to summon a judge.

Hmmm.. I just noticed this yesterday when I play, I tap permanents to the right but if a permanent enters the battlefield tapped I always put it in the battlefield tapped to the left.
Like how some of us mentioned which is our dominant hand. I'm left-handed, but I played with my deck on my right. Draw with my right and hold my hand in my left hand.
And I tap/play cards with my right hand. And I tap my cards to the right.
I tap to the right. Left or right really ought not to matter, but it is important for people to understand that 180 degrees is NOT a legal tap method - the card orientation must be landscape rather than portrait to be considered tap. Further, it must be possible to clearly deliniate tapped and untapped permanents by looking at them - 45 degrees will only be sufficient if you havea very well-organized board. Please do yourself a favor and get into the habit of tapping 90 degrees - it will avoid issues if you attend sanctionned play.

You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.

But, if they are speaking of 180 degrees from standard orientation, it is still an illegal board state, due to the presence of Kamigawa flip cards.
The important thing to remember is that board state must be consistent, and readily understandable.
Arbitrary orientations for "summoning sickness", "permatap", "detained" or whatever are not within the rules. Tapped is tapped, if you want to have some kind of identifier for such things, you need to instead of an alternate tap orientation instead use a little post-it note with the explanation.

Strangely enough, I was going to ask a question about whether tapping left was illegal or not, until I saw this thread.
