Magic is more popular than it's ever been before. That's a fact. Everyone's welcome to their opinion on how much love/hate/apathy they have toward this game, but the answer to the question "is Magic dying?" is an emphatic, objective no.
No one has posted in this thread in a while so I'd figure I'll give my idea of what I see at my LGS. We've had an influx on new players, and older players coming back with the release of Khans. I personally was on the way out, but Khans roped me back in because it seems like a pretty fun and competitive standard right now. You have a viable combo deck. Aggro. Burn. Midrange. Control. All of them looking good. Just my two cents.
Not surprised that this led to the recent class action lawsuit suing Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro for War of the Spark: Mythic Edition. What I don't understand is why they continue to release Mythic Edition products for Standard legal sets thinking they'll never get caught manipulating the Secondary Market. You'd think they'd learn their lesson by now after how disastrous the Mythic Editions for Guilds of Ravnica and Ravnica Allegiance were.
I think this has more to do with them not making enough money from sealed product sales when they really should've left the e-commerce side of things to small business retailers who need the revenue, not only to make money off their product but to also provide a place for people to play Magic. I assume that Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro employees get paid enough for their work as it is for designing new Magic products as well as manufacturing them.
