I always try to play old frame versions of cards in standard/modern decks.
But I don't deny the new frame is better. Its more readable, has more space for art and text, and is generally a better design.
I use old frame cards because they are awesome, not because they are good.
I think my hypothethesis that generational bias has the strongest correlation with frame preference is true. Reading through the posts, it also seems like there are more old players that like modern frames than vise versa.

Count me as another old player that prefers the old frame. They just seem to have so much more flavor, especially the black and green ones.
I do appreciate how the newer frame can be easier to read. I just wish artifacts stayed brown. It sucks having a mono-brown deck with silver cards in it!
Prefer new frames for: lands, green, red, black, gold. Prefer old frames for: artifacts, blue. Neutral towards white borders. So it seems new frame won for me.
Also, old frame for gold cards is just super ugly.
Look at that straight 50-50 split. I'd never have expected it.
I like more cards better in new frames than in old frames, so I picked "New Frames" for the poll.
Old blue cards look so tacky. Old multicolor cards looks ridiculous with the gold waviness. W, B, and X are my favorite colors in the old frames; the rest, new all the way.
Don't forget Shadowmoor introduced blended-color frames for two-color cards instead of just gold, like Shield of the Oversoul, whose frame is GW and not plain gold.
Ultimately the only time I ever find myself caring about frames, though, is when I'm playing commander, since then the "pimping" of the deck actually counts for something. I will praise the heavens almighty if they take some popular ugly old-frame commanders like Hanna, Ship's Navigator and update them to modern frames like they did with some of the P3K legends.
Actually, "old" art (i.e. brushes and paint) are really nice with the old frame. The latest computer-assisted art is really fitting the new frame. When I look at an old-school Crumble, it has all the characteristics of the reminder of a bygone era, mystic and eerie feel (the arc and ruined city in the background), that frame nicely compliments it.
I started at Urza's Destiny and I love the new frame much better, in fact, I got rid of all my cards with the old frame. I only play with new cards now

If there is such a thing as too much power, I have not discovered it!
I think It all depends on the art of the card. Some cards look sweet old bordered, like many of the judge promos. Many of the newer cards though would not look as good.

I used to think there were cards that looked better in the new frame, but then I fire up MSE and make up an old frame version, and it always looks SOO much cooler.

I feel most of innistrad wouldnt look great in the old border, really crisp digital images just dont look good old boarder.
Old frame, remember when sword of fire and ice was the first old frame promo in a long, long time? People drooled over it. Same is true of noble hierarch, crucible of worlds, SoLaS, and any other old frame cards they've printed as a judge promo. The new frame doesn't have a fantasy feel to it like the old frame does either. I like old bordered cards infinitely more than new bordered ones. Lightning bolt from alpha or lightning bolt from M10? Not even close. If you put the Christopher Rush bolt art in the new frame it would look hideous.

I also really like the Future Sight card frame and the Planar Chaos color shifted card frames.
Out of the 4 I like the Modern frame the least. Change it!
