I don't understand why a user program does not become the standard where you face an opponent directly accross from you. It makes decks completely random (no cheatin by stacking). I understand that you would think Blizzard could't make money but alas I have a solution, in order to get the cards on the Cockatrice like program, you have to turn in the physical copy to the tournament organizer until you are out of the tournament. Using a program like this while accounting for buying the product as I suggested makes missed triggers easier to spot by judges (triggers don't automatically happen on Cockatrice like they do on mtgo if you are unfamiliar with the program). I think that this will greatly reduce the amount of cheating and make the game much more pure and respected.

Doctor, my eyes...cannot see the sky. Is this the prize for having learned how not to cry?
I guess OP wants it to be 'keyworded' like "dies" was. What word would you replace ETB with though?
When Aegis Angel is born?
When Huntmaster of the Fells arrives?
When Kitchen Sphinx lands?
When Faerie Imposter busts in?
When Dread Cacodemon pops in?
When Malfegor shows up?
This sounds like way too much headache for the TO. First you need a working computer for each player, and then you have to check every deck to it's physical cards, and then make sure players can't edit their deck, and keep track of players cards, plus etc. Way to much work. In addition, there are a ton of players, including myself, that enjoy the tactile feel of playing paper magic. I play MTGO as well, but paper magic is a completely different experience.

I would never trust a computer to truly randomize my deck.

Also, Blizzard makes WoW, Wizards of the Coast makes Magic.
Blizzard doesnt make money from magic, what is this nonsense? MODO is pretty fine for tournaments, the UI can be a little choppy sometimes but cockatrice is like 100x worse of a UI in my opinion.
Edit: Anyway as for the point of the thread, part of the game is remembering triggers and knowing how cards act with each other kind of comes down to skill when it comes down to it. Competative and Professional REL's have many judges so cheating is rather hard to pull off and as for regular RELs IE: FNM's this idea seems way too complicated as opposed to: Hand in deck list>>>play magic>>>judge checks deck if needed for a few people.
it would be hand in deck to judge>>>judges check decks of every player>>>judges enter the info into the system>>>play magic.
While I hate to drive people away from here, there happens to be some organization on the forums of cockatrice for setting up tournaments.
The issue with that though is prizes. Why would you or I play in a poorly organized event when we can just play people at our leisure? And if there are prizes, then there's competition, and cheating, and rules questions. While there happens to be a lot of judge resources, and even a judge on their moderation team, it's not realistic to expect exact rulings ALL the time.
Even judges make mistakes. If you wanted to do this with a group of friends, I say go for it! But it becomes more problematic the more you advance in the the Rules Enforcement Levels of Magic.
Because, Blizzard is all about the money and not everyone has a laptop or wants to play using a laptop. People would come to stores just to steel laptops when other guys use the bathroom.

How would this be any different from just playing tournaments on MTGO? The online PTQs and MOCS are pretty competitive. I'm pretty sure they also have online GPs, but not sure as I think they are infrequent.
Because some people actually like having something physical in their hands...

Due to real-life obligations, I am taking a long break from Magic which may include missing the local Legacy GP. Apologies for not being able to keep my threads updated.
Playing in GP's or SCGO's is not just about gameplay its about interaction, meeting new ppl making new friends as you play, along with the obvious of winning but while you can meet new ppl online the human interaction is lost.
For some people the experience of physical magic is better than sitting in front of a computer. I play heavily on cockatrice for play testing decks, and i play in Mtg salvation tournies on cockatrice, but i still drive 8-9 hours to attend GP's or PTQ's or SCGO's. Sometimes its not about the actual play its about the journey to the tourny and the stories you bring back home. "dude did you see that guys face when he ripped a top deck bonfire?" well no Jimmie i was behind a computer??? well i'm going to stop ranting i think everyone gets my point just my .02 cents

If shuffling is such a big deal (I doubt it is) casinos use mechanical card shufflers. They could use that in magic tournaments.
Most auto-shufflers frequently ding your cards up and can't handle sleeves. I have heard that the high-end ones they use in casinos don't shred cards as often but cost several thousand dollars and still can't handle sleeves.

Yup, these machines are actually horrible for any cards other than "casino" playing cards. Those are covered with a coating that helps them stand up to wear and tear... board games and CCGs are not covered or protected by anything, which is why we need to sleeve.
As for Cockatrice, I really don't like the attitudes of some of the players on there, which can be said for MTGO too I guess. I'd always rather play in person, because even if the person is THINKING about trollish things, they'll tend to hold their tongue and act like a human being.
Lantern has been having a successful Modern Cockatrice tournament for a few months. Everyone should check it out if they play Modern. But I don't think that's what you meant, I just wanted to plug Lantern's phenomenal Modern Invitational in the Modern subforum.

This is why I started playing magic in the first place. It wasn't PT aspirations just making noobs cry by doing things that are perfectly fair.
Have you ever used Cockatrice King Pun? The randomizer is TERRIBLE.
Furthermore I go to tournaments to play a physical card game with actual human beings. You miss out on reading body language and having the chance to interact with your outcome via shuffling your opponents deck/pressuring them/etc. It doesn't compare at all.
