i tend to agree with the forbes article, posting this sort of thing on a tech-blog is pretty obviously trolling. And very succesful trolling at that, i have no doubt with the (100000s?) of views shes gotten, shes gotten a pretty sum of money.
is it bad if im now tempted to try something like this? :[, all i have to do is go on a site (say... gizmodo) and post obvious trolling (say... smashing on all apple software), and then get millions of views as outraged apple users refer the article all over the place...

Honestly, the only thing I can see that Finkel might have did wrong was the one man show. Jeffery Dahmer's life, well, I've seen stuff on him and it's not exactly date material, but the fact that she went on a second date after that means that it wasn't that bad an evening. It seems like she was somehow mad at him for not being her fantasy bad-boy even though she a) admittedly didn't google him before the date and b) only went out with him because he was the first semi-sane response she got on OkCupid. I have to agree that the article makes her look bad, not him. He did almost nothing wrong, and she's the shallow one for taking offense at his hobbies.
The most entertaining thing for me is the rather large number of negative response articles being published by more reputable news outlets. From the International Business Times to the Washington Post to CBS to the Business Insider. Its hilarious. Though the lack of fact checking is sometimes funny as well. Alyssa is listed as everything from an intern to a senior editor depending on who you read.
I heard somewhere finkel dated supermodels some point. Why did he degrade himself to online dating?
I'm guessing he's just looking for something deeper. I believe he said he's 33, he has a steady job. It sounds like he is at a point in his life at which he'd like to settle down. Internet dating might seem unorthodox, but for every 5 terrible stories like this, there is a good one. I guess he was looking for the right girl and happened upon someone with very little sense of privacy and tact.

Poor dude. Didn't he see those eHarmony commercials? Finkel is still twice the person that blogger was.

Anyway, who cares. She has the personality and face of a mule. An ugly mule. This isn't Olivia Wilde we're dealing with here, it's not like Finkel is missing anything.
"You're an unpleasant person on the whole. Strike three."
She'll get get what she deserves.
She lost a guy with a who thread of Chuck Norris-like facts (which are amazing, by the way) about him. Her loss really. Hopefully people on OKCupid will google the hell out of their date and her reputation will go down the drain. I wonder what happened to her social life.
In an eight player game, is anything good? Don't you just sit there countering combos until someone genesis waves for 42 after all the blue players tap out fighting over a bribery?
I can't believe how full of guys who have fear of rejection issues when it comes to women this thread is.
There's a lot of defensiveness and seeing yourself in Finkel's position here.
Personally I can understand exactly where she's coming from. I mean, I wouldn't blog about it, but that's because I don't have an internet diary I get paid to write. But if I needed material I'm sure it would go in there. Perhaps she should have been a bit more clever and not used his name though.

. . . Did you read the article? Did you see what website published the piece? Because from your post, it sure sounds like you didn't.
There's a difference between having a bad date where the guy's breath smells bad, you pay for all the food and tickets, and you find out he doesn't have a steady job. Then there's dates where some guy is good at a hobby he likes to do, has a career outside of his hobby, and dresses nice. The fact that she attacks him solely on the fact that he still enjoys his hobby makes people who share that same hobby also feel insulted, especially if you don't make money or get fame out of it.
ALSO Check my profile... I just thought it was a funny coincidence pointed out by someone else on the internets...
Look, it's her prerogative to choose to not date anyone for any reason she chooses. Sure she comes of at least judgmental for it in this case. Not to mention that the article will do her more harm than good for complaining about it (that's the real problem). Unless she's trolling/looking for hits as others have said.
You could view MtG akin to gambling (not saying it is - but at times, depending on your approach to the game, there are similarities) and for some people that could be a red flag and absolute deal breaker. But she didn't go into detail or expand on it only leaving us with ZOMGTOONERDY - leaving her looking shallow and doubly so dumb for posting and complaining about it.
I just read the article and I honestly feel sad for this woman. So petty and small, unwilling to accept people for who they are. Going through life thinking that what a person does as a hobby defines who they are is a pretty narrow way of seeing the world.
Guess what? I have played Magic since 1994 and I'm happily married to a woman who could care less about Magic, and we have 2 beautiful children. She didn't judge me poorly because I liked to play a collectible card game, and she certainly doesn't scoff at my hobby after I sold a fraction of my collection to purchase her wedding ring.
Did he still play? "Yes." Strike one. How often? "I'm preparing for a tournament this weekend." Strike two. Who did he hang out with? "I've met all my best friends through Magic." Strike three.
If I was considering a relationship with someone, I would not want to date someone who:
1. Has a major passion for something I have no interest in and can't see myself getting into.
2. Spends a great deal of time on that hobby (no time together)
3. All of their friends are through this hobby (can't find mutual interests in friends).
.
Sure, but you don't go and write about him on the internet. That makes you shallow and petty.

Attractive successful nerdy girl who was a Pokemon TCG champion 10 years ago and now plays for fun whilst holding down a finance job?
I'd be more like "Misty Cosplay?"
Probably, but even if I had the stage to tell the world about it I wouldn't. Making fun of people isn't really cool and hasn't been since I was 8.
WUBRGPauper Battle BoxWUBRG ... and why I am not a fan of Wayne Reynolds' Illustrations.
You mean in real life or the internets? Cause if it's the former then I totally agree.
I think that sad picture of Jon Finkel is more meme-able than anything else.
EDIT: Wow! There are literally pages of people trolling her! http://www.quickmeme.com/ALYSSA-BEREZNAK/

Speak for yourself. If she's invested enough time to be a Pokemon champion, I'm sure she's delved into Magic at least a little bit.
Anyways, Alyssa got what she deserved. Not dating somebody because they enjoy a TCG is probably the shallowest thing I've ever heard.

I hope not. Actually, I hope she has a single date that goes horribly - because the guy googles her.
