I think it depends a lot on where you live. In college towns, you'll obviously find a lot of college students playing. In more suburban-like towns, there are more high school players.
From my comic I've been surprised to find that most of my readers are in this age range, and not too much older, which makes me feel a little old.
started in May of 93.... 27, turning 28 this year... And I've stopped going to LGS, and now, i'm done with constructed magic except for EDH. (to which, the only people i play with are my clan)

How can anyone turn a blind eye to the fact that a poster with 2 posts just unburial rites'd a 3 and a half year old thread? Some serious action needs to be taken.
Necroing threads isn't a problem in and of itself - the thread is covering a very general topic that would have been fine at any point during this site's history, and can't really ever be concluded. It's better that threads like this one are resurrected than that new threads pop up all the time, I think.
Anyway, on-topic: I'm 23, I've played for 11 years, both of which are about average (or slightly below average) for my playgroup. Not that I have much of an established playgroup anymore.
Anyhow, the best I can come up with myself is a game in the top 8 of a PTQ back during Urza block in which we were starting game 3 with time already expired, so the tiebreaker rule was that whoever had more life after 3 turns would win. And I lost to... healing salve.
I'm staring down 30. Started playing in late '94. Stopped playing sometime in high school, didn't pick it back up again until a few years ago.
My LGS has a few younger kids (at least one nine-year-old comes by occasionally, and a group of 14-year-olds also stops in for pre-releases), but most of us are pretty far into adulthood (late 20s, 30s, early 40s). Overall, I really like the age balance. Us older guys keep things grounded, and there's just enough youthful exuberance to brighten up the place without being overwhelming.
Started with Fallen Empires, right before 4th came out.
Quit for Mercadian Masques.
Started up again for Invasion.
Quit after Odyssey was released.
Started up again for Kamigawa.
Quit right before Ravnica.
Started up again right before Alara.
I'm 22 and I've played since 2005, when Mirrodin was new. Honestly I'm equally comfortable playing against players of all ages since they all play well and fairly at my LGS. I hope to continue playing games like this until I'm middle-aged and beyond!

I am really quite elderly, seeing as I am 5 months shy of 40. I have never felt out of place in any of the shops I have played at. I have been playing (that is buying my own cards and making my own decks) for a little more than 10 years, though I learned to play the game about 18 years ago.
My casual playgroup ages are as follows: 24, 25, 31, 33, 36, 37
Most people at my my store are 20+ . You're never too old for magic. Playing the game with a lot of disposable income is way better than buying a pack or two every few weeks with allowance
I'm 22 and playing since Alara. Local community is bimodal with max at early twenties - mid twenties and late thirties - early forties. Plus two 14 year oldish schoolboys, one of whom reqularily kicks our collective backsides.
I am 50 and been playing since the inception of the game. My son has played for the last 10 years or so and he is 20. My younger son (18) is strictly casual and been playing for 8 or so years. The LGS I frequent most is pretty diverse, from teens to people older them me. There are a couple other LGS near that have a younger crowd (19-26), at least when I pop in for an occasional event.
I'm almost 34 and I've played off and on since Beta in '94. I'm definitely above average in age at my LGS, but I'm not the oldest. I'd say our average group is 20-25ish.

I actually prefer playing against older people. They're on the whole chiller about most things.
