Now I am wondering if Cabal Trainee isn't an ode to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban's Prof. Lupin (who does the cool training with that creature that turns into what people fear the most? for you ex or current readers...)? I am not sure on the releases of the books anymore, but it seems like it could be right?
Seems a lot like what he was saying similar things as the people did their training in that book. That almost looks like a Quidditch outfit in the background too! Red robes, goggles etc.

Except the card predates the book's popularity by at least 2 years.

Not really. The book predates the release of Judgment by 3 years (book: 1999; Judgment: 2002). Art is commissioned usually less than a year before, and seeing how it's one of the card arts most tied with the storyline ever, it's pretty much impossible that the art had come before the book. And the book was popular as soon as it came out.
And it's no homage to Harry Potter, it's a homage to the Cabal practices in the Odyssey storyline. That itself gets many references later.
@ Sharuumatoid: It's just ***** imagery that's only visible if you're either too perverted or too immature. I prefer straight-up things like Ekundu Cyclops where there's no guessing and no wondering whether it was intentional or not.

It's widely known that [EDH] is very broken. Building a superdeck is quite easy. So what defines you as a player is [...] how you show restraint and creativity while still remaining a competitive player and a good sport.
the only problem with urza is that he is an oldwalker, so its abilities would be like:
+3: remove up to ten target permanents from the play
-2: win the game
-8: kick your opponents in the face, then win the game
starting loyalty: 100
and i really love how appropriate Clergy en vec's flavor text is - "Faith's shield is hammered out by the blows of unbelievers." -Oracle en-Vec , yeah, blows!
Notice the creatures of those colors hidden in the background? You have to look real close to see the minotaur (rep R), but he is in there. Don't know what the other creature is, but he is def a U creature. I've seen him on other cards.
Has anybody every looked at the promo, alt-art version of Demigod of Revenge?
Although, it might be obvious and just hasn't been mentioned, it is now called the ***** of Revenge
The two Elspeths are a great thesis on women in general. When you first meet one, she costs a decent amount to attract, makes you stronger and gives you the feeling that you're flying. She also goes to great lengths to protect her loved ones from harm. After a while, she gets more expensive to maintain, gives birth like a sow, becomes less loyal after doing so, and tops it all off by wrecking crap around the house. Except hers, of course.
He's quoted on there, so it's not actually "hidden." If you want to find all references to Sorin or any other planeswalker, either in art, card title, flavor text, or whatever, check out this thread.

"...because without beer, things do not seem to go as well."
I recall one of the reasons for removing this card after revised was the image. I didn't notice it back then, until I read about it somewhere. But I do think it's kinda gruesome :).
Errmm...There's something...hanging...in the moonlight...Yeaahhh
If you know what I mean.
Actually, the giant "mushroom" the chick is sitting on, always reminded me of...something.

If you look closely on art of Higure, the Still Wind, you can see in the distance an Ogre and some mob around him. Now, I always thought that this mob were fighting the Ogre, but then I looked closer and saw that they are actually all running toward Higure. This means that Higure is the "bad guy" and Ogres and samurai are working together. I haven't red the Kamigawa novels or anything, but I didn't know that Ogres have an alliance with the humans, especially after reading the flavor text on Sokenzan Bruiser.
Also, another thing that bothers me is that the Ogre on the picture is clearly bigger than the torii gates and yet, he is so courteous that he doesn't smash it when passing through, but he actually "ducks" underneath it. Crazy.

It's what the other spike is feeding from. In other words that's no apple.
Add in Kor Skyfisher and Cliff Threader!

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
Oooooh!
Now I get why the center of attention is the "apple."

I like 4/4s for 7.
No, Prisoner of Azkhaban can out in 1999, Judgement in 2002. Still, it's an old trope, so it might just be a coincidence.
Ekundu Cyclops and Clergy en-Vec really do take the cake here.
Ekundu Cyclops is a great find, makes Roughshod Mentor look absolutely juvenile now

Quotes in blog.
I don't remember any illustration before or after the Alara Block that did that and there's 3 in the same block.
Talon Trooper, Messenger Falcons and Arsenal Thresher.
Notice the colors he supports?

I think he does that quite a bit.
Look at the spear on his Gobbo Grenade.
Also, Chandra is on Magma Rift, as said in a recent article.(Both in the flavor text and the art.)

Alpha/Beta Lure has a skull.
Alpha/Beta Wall of Fire, Wall of Ice, Wall of Water, Wall of Air have someone inside them
