Got my spinner! I really really like it. My only problem now is finding something to put on top of it. I was thinking about getting a miniature and painting it, but 1) I really like the silver/metallic look of the spinner without paint, and I'd like the miniature to match the spinner, and 2) I don't feel like shelling out the money for paints, nor do i have the time and patience to actually paint one of the things (especially since I have no experience painting minis and would probably not be happy with my first attempts at it).
I've browsed (and am going to browse again) the reaper miniatures site, but does anyone else have any other suggestions? eBay, surprisingly enough, doesn't have many impressive options when I search for "painted miniature" ...
I decided against getting a painted one, because I really like the metallic look to the spinner and I want the mini to match it. Now I've just got to wait for the mini to come in the mail, and in the meantime pick up some zap-a-gap. I'll post here again once I have a "finished product."
Interesting, that's actually a discontinued Reaper Mini. I saw a few of those on the website you linked. Might be a handy way to get ahold of older miniatures.
Jace on the other hand gives you card advantage for no life cost. On the contrary, Jace can actually take some damage for you. I'd think that makes him better than Arena.
You may find that the Crazy Glue GEL that you can get at the Dollar Store holds your figurine (whether pure pewter or lead alloy in the case of older miniatures) extremely well. For what it's worth, I don't paint my figurines either, but I do paint the arrow and the 'background' of the numbers.

Alright, here's my finished spinner. No paint, just the spinner, the mini, and some superglue gel. Also pictured are the items the spinner will be replacing
A question that I haven't seen answered in any post in this thread: How are the figurines attached to the life spinner? Is there a hook or something like that, and does that mean a figurine used with the life spinner needs a hole in it for attachment to work?

- Jon Finkel Facts: (follow the link at left to see more Facts, or add more Facts!)
- Chuck Norris counted to infinity twice—because he was trying to count how much damage Jon Finkel deals in an average game.

I recommend using Super Glue Gel. You can get it at any Dollar Store.
Looking forward to some more pics!
Someone else asked by pm where to get figures - you can usually get them at any store that carries MTG AND other games (if they sell WARHAMMER, they usually have other figures as well). If you can't find any locally, they are everywhere on ebay, just search RAL PARTHA or FANTASY MINIATURE and you'll find tons.

I got mine from a site called FaerieGlenNJ.com. It only cost like $8 and they had a pretty good selection in my opinion. If you want to see a photo of mine, it's here
..since there was a post in this thread, but I just wanted to post of picture of my life counter
It's a little fuzzy cuz I took the picture with my webcam. Right now, I've only put the R2-D2 (attached with double-sided tape) on cuz I can't find any cool metallic figurines to put on it. I haven't gone to the local Warhammer shop yet, so you never know. From what I've seen in this thread so far, I really liked Sliver Underlord's tiny dragon and Jaelan's druid dude.
An R2D2 Lego? Why not? After all, the whole point is to personalize your SPINNER. I've got a shot of my Jabberwocky. I'm also going to attempt to post some pics of other figures I have on SPINNERs that I've been taking with me to pre-releases [down to about a dozen]. It's been working out well so far! Ooopps - can only upload 5 images at a time, so these teases will have to do. I hope this gives all of you some ideas.
Super-necro there...anyway, r_e, if you want this thread re-opened, I suppose you could open it yourself. I'm just going ahead and locking it since there hasn't been any activity in a year or so.
Xen-
Thank you so much! Actually, I've never technically been out of business, but I eventually created my own 'website' [it's actually just a blog, but a friend helped me make it look like a website] and have been selling them from there the whole time. The price has gone up since I first started out [but stupid pewter prices have basically doubled since 2005 when I got started], and I changed the placement of the numbers, but they are still basically the same thing.
What has changed dramatically is my need to get new master pieces made after my old pewter supplier went out of business. I found another supplier, but he has had to make molds off of production models.
Don't get me wrong - they were still great - but I want awesome and that required my getting new masters made. It's taken me almost two years to get there, but I'm finally ready to get new originals made to sold I can have brand new molds created.
I'm also creating TWO different sizes.
Xen - would MTGS like to have a couple of exclusive pictures of the prototype, hand-made Bronze originals?
EDIT: Apologies. I've received a few mssgs asking why I didn't post a link to the Youtube interview that sparked the resurrection of this thread, explaining what's coming up in the interview. My bad - I'll include the link in my sigline [not supposed to put it in the body of the text, right?].
I've had one of the original life counters since they came out, and it has had moderate use all through the years. Still in original condition. These things are well made. They're the sort of life counter that's also an investment, because unless you do something weird to it, it will last nearly forever. You can pass these things down to your little gaming kids.
Just giving my opinion on the product. :)
Personally speaking, I'd like to see whatever images you're willing to share. Bronze sounds nice.
Actually I hate marketing. It's the bane of my existence [I suck mightily at it]. As a game designer, if I had a clue how to do successful marketing, it would make my life [I]much[/I] easier.
It's amazing how if you sell tiny plastic toy, or cardboard thingamie, or something like that, and, instead of selling it for $0.20, want to sell it for $20.00,
you just call it auto-life counter tracking device, exclusive deck playing field surface, or something like that, and SUDDENLY it's OK to sell THAT for THAT MUCH.
Handgums (knock-off of silly putty) are the funniest ones, probably. Buy a piece of colorful rubber goo, 20$. WHAT??? Oh come on, it's THE TREND! Ah, okay.
I'll agree with you on this - I've never understood huge markup.
That being said - as the producer of a pewter life counter, I've discovered that business isn't as easy as I thought it would be. I sold my SPINNERs for $20. That wound up including lots more brain damage than I anticipated.
I decided early on that I would include the cost of shipping [around $1.20 each]. PayPal sucks an extra $1 every time. The mailers are about $.30 each. So I'm out $2.50 immediately. Didn't see all that coming.:-/
I only have about 25 made at a time - if you've ever had anything made, you know the difference in unit cost between having 25 items made by a small pewter manufacturer who has a mold that only creates 5 at a time and a major manufacturer that can make 10,000 at a time.
I'm the first guy - not the second guy.
I was approached by a couple of very nice gentlemen at a Con where I was selling my $20 SPINNERs who wanted to mass produce my SPINNERs and get them into game shops at the $10 level. They hunted all over the world for a year, but were unsuccessful [raw pewter costs have increased substantially since 2005 - I remember being able to get miniatures for less than $3. Those days are gone]. My own costs are going up as well [actually they did about 2 years ago].
I apologize for droning on about such things here ['this should be a [I]happy[/I] occasion'], but I just want to make it clear that my SPINNER isn't plastic, and I couldn't have it made as cheaply as suggested even if I wanted to.
The idea of offering Bronze SPINNERs is strictly for those who can afford it [and there are those who do]. These will be the same guys that spend $1000 for a MOX.
Perhaps an effort to send boxes of what Westerners consider 'useless cards' could be undertaken? Any cards are better than no cards, yes? Over here folks take the Rare out of a victory pack and leave the rest on the table for anybody to take home. Seems a shame that can't get to folks who need/truly desire to have them.
Probably a better idea might be to find things that are common/cheap over there that might be of some worth to folks over here and a trade exchange could be set up?
I get it, yes. But even if it doesn't apply to you...
If it doesn't apply, there's no need for you to post it. That's called "spam" and against the forum rules. Your post was not only off-topic, it was rude. And not only rude, but also incorrect. The maker of these counters is barely able to produce them at this cost. He's not making a profit for himself. For you to claim he's gouging buyers and overcharging for these must be very hard for him to hear, and respond to without being angry. However, I don't mind being the one to tell you: that was rude and uncalled for.
So Traz, how about those images you'd hinted at?
I think bronze sounds cool but silver is such a sexy metal...
Elf- thanks for the backup. Truth in advertising though - I do make some money on these, but I'll never get rich off it [as the guys who wanted to buy the rights to it and sell it at wholesale found out after a year of trying].
Heck - half the reason I do it is because of the fun. I love playing with my own, watching my grandson play with his, and seeing the pictures I get after folks put their own minis on - it's just awesome to be a part of it.
The bronzes? OhMyFreakingGosh! They are beyond sweet. It seems for me to post a pic, I have to use one already on net somewhere - I'm not sure how else to do this, so here's one pic.... http://www.terrangames.us/p/life-spinner.html.
Darn- it doesn't work, please email me and I'll send it to you - or one of the moderators - whichever is easiest.
It shows an extreme closeup of one of the original SPINNERS and one one of the prototype bronze TITANS. Yes, it really is twice as thick.
