You have probably found this thread by searching for pewter life counters or heard my podcast interview on YO! MTG TAPS #26. Please understand that this thread was opened back in 2005, and since I ordered the first print run back then, pewter prices have more than doubled. Ouch! Despite that, I have ordered another print run to keep them in production.
New prices all include shipping:
US address: $17
Canada address: $20
-for each additional LIFE SPINNER, just add $15. For example, for 2 SPINNERS to be sent to Canada, total cost [including shipping] will be $35.
Mods: This seemed to be the best place to bring this up. If not, let me know. Thanks!
I was recently contacted by a member of the community (I actually forget what his MTGS name is, woops... or maybe he's mostly a lurker) who is starting up production of some new life counters. He wanted to know if I'd carry them on my site. I looked into it, but mainly because I prefer only to specialize in Magic singles (and nothing but) I declined it. Nevertheless he sent me a sample to check out, and it's really cool, so I wanted to endorse it and let people know about it. It's something which I don't think has been done before and it's quite a good idea.
As you can see in the attached pics, it's a fairly thick and heavy steel disc, with a spinning center piece with notches so that it sits in the grooves. One of the notches is the pointer to indice your life total. One side goes from 1 to 30, the other can record life totals as high as 60. It comes flat, and you can attach your own item to the middle spinning part. I chose a lucky D6 of mine, as you can see, but all manner of figurines would look awesome there. It's whatever you want to attach.
I have a video clip of it but I can't attach it, and my site isn't letting me upload it since it's 15MB. I might try and take another one tomorow night.
If anyone wants to ask questions about it, PM me or email the designer, Chester, at <cehendrix (at) sbcglobal (dot) net>.
Edit: Now that I have established official first post, I'd like to say...
Sweet! That looks awesome!
I think you should reconsider selling those on your site. How much are they gunna sell for?
Very cool indeed, but do you have any idea as to the price. I know you said prices in PM or E-mail but I think it will be a common question and one that really dictacts interest in it. I realize that you are going to be selling them but seeing as he wanted you to, I assume you a general idea?
I don't think he told me what the price would be, since I said I wasn't going to sell them on my site. He was nice enough to send me one to keep, though, so I wanted to make people aware of this cool new product.
I'll drop him and email and find out what he's going to be selling them at. If there's enough interest, I'll consider selling them on my site too. The best part about it for me is how heavy and solid it is. And the look to the surface is really cool, not sure you can see the detailing around the numbers from those bright photos I took.
I got a reply from Chester and he wrote up something else for me to post, since his MTGS account isn't working.
Newly available, August 2005. Brand new pewter design in Life Counters, the Life Spinner is useable with both MTG and VS. A complete departure from older style pewter types which feature nibs and holes that don’t always match up with the numbers, are ‘hidden’ from your opponent, or are just prone to be ‘knocked’ a number or two easily.
Instead, the Life Spinner features a unique Life Lock Design that points to the numbers, is easily readable and can’t be easily tipped. The outer number ring has a 30 pointed star on the inside, and the spinner that fits snugly inside is flat (with a large arrow imbedded into it for painting) so that you can put your favorite miniature on it.
Choose your own style in the ring! The Life Spinner allows you to completely customize your personal gaming experience. Simply attach your favorite 25mm metal miniature, 2” figure or any object that represents you to your opponent. In the photo below you see my personal Life Spinner – I’ve soldered a BATTLETECH miniature on mine.
With the numbers running from 1 – 30 on the front side, you won’t find yourself flipping the Life Spinner as often as you do with older pewter styles. And the 31 – 60 range on the back supports average MTG Life Decks - and gamers using the VS system will find this just right as well!
For best results in attaching your figure, I suggest Super Glue Gel or soldering (for metal figurines only - duh!). Acrylic paint is easiest for highlighting the pointer and the numbers on the ring. Simply paint heavily into Number Ring or the triangle on the Inside Spinner, allow to dry and wipe off the excess with a fingernail. In the photo with the BATTLETECH figure is how I painted mine. You’ll notice the pointer is painted red, and the background for the number ring is painted blue. Also in the photo are the Number Ring and Inside Spinner (the TERRAN GAMES logo side) as they are sold, unpainted. You don’t have to paint them at all (I just think they look cooler). Please feel free to email me questions direct.
$11.95 - payment is by Money Order only. Shipping & Handling (in a bubble pack) is $3 in the US, $5 to Canada and $7 everywhere else. Arrangements are being made now to roll out the Life Spinner via the major Distributors. Until then, you can be the first in your group to own one!
SPECIAL FOR MTGSers! Mention Rancored Elf's endorsement and pay only $9.95! MTGS rules!

His figure looks better than my die, I'm afraid... although the sauldering job was sloppy. My crazyglue job is wicked.
The BEST life counter I think I've EVER seen. Seriously. There's always the handy pen and paper but that's a good easy to do it as an aside (as even these probably wouldn't be acceptable at my local tournaments since the life counters from Arena aren't acceptable either).
Wow that just looks amazing! I want one. I would buy it from R_E as soon as I could if he carried it. By the way I added you to my sig I just need to work on the line a bit.
Chester here, finally got my password fixed. I had the old Reaper style as well. They originally came with 4 different figures and were very cool, but only went from 1-20 on a side. One year they made some with NO figure on it and that was when I scored mine. I've gotten tired of people offering me $40 for mine and finally decided earlier this year to make a better one. That is why the numbers go from 1 - 30 on each side. Also, the original Reaper version had the spinner sitting on TOP OF the number ring, my design allows the spinner to lock INSIDE OF the number ring, so it can't be tilted or bumped like the old style.
SMRP is $11.95, but for now I will honor orders for $9.95 to any MTG Sers that contact me directly or until Rancored Elf decides to carry them (then they'll be $11.95 like normal). They should be in most stores by the end of the year if things go right, otherwise I will be the sole manufacturing source.
Ok so I got a life counter. Arrived in a little under a week.
I'm just trying to figure out what to attach to it:
The Dragon The Eyeball (a marble really) or a tiny crystal ball
Any opinions?

I've tried.
I think the Dragon and Crystal are the best but they all look pretty sweet. You lucky bugger! What's your favourite? What are you going to use to attach it... I used crazy glue and it holds really nicely.
Well I think the eyeball is too big, and since I ordered more then one counter I might do both the dragon and the C-ball, but the dragon first. Probably going to superglue it. I got the dragon at a toy store, in a tiny german town called Biefield or something.
I think for the ball I'm going to have to make a little stand for it, like a tiny bowl, then glue it all together.

Oh yeah, I have a couple of those around here somewhere. I have a plain gray one (on which the orb thing broke off) and I also have another one that's gold plated. I didn't realize they'd been going for so much nowadays...

man oh man...someting to do with all the leftover warhammer bits <3<3<3<3<3 and sexy enamel job on his counter! These are tiiiiiight!
@Sliver Underlord: Bielefeld? Not so tiny.
I stayed in two places in Germany, but I could only remember one of the names. I was told one was a college town, and the other was where her parents lived. It felt tiny to me, compared to London and home, but the good tiny. I'll never forget "Lets ride bikes to the bar." And much drunken bike riding occured that night.
Edit: Heres the pics of the attached dragon and gold numbers.
also what preys on dragons.
I will be bringing stock to the San Jose Prerelease to sell (on consignment) at the one vendor who is always at Conan's Cons. Be looking / asking for them! What is not generally known is that the prototypes struck by the caster were in a different font and much thinner / sleeker than the final design. There are only 9 of these. If at least 10 of you guys pick up a LIFE SPINNER at the Prerelease (or order one directly from me in the next week) and post a picture here of how you configured yours, I'll ask all the lurkers to vote for their favorite and send the lucky winner one of the prototypes.
so... it wont be as cool as R_E or the other guys? great! I accually was gonna buy 2... you got a pic of these new versions? Thinner/sleeker? explain is it heavyier metal?
Ah! You were asking about the prototypes - the pewter caster that makes them for me only struck 9 of the first version. They are about 1/2 the thickness of the final version, the pointer arrow is very tiny, and it doesn't use the cool font. So it is lighter than the final version and APPEARS smaller, but it's actually just thinner. Again, there are only 9 of them and I plan to pass them along to only afficianados who collect such things - I have no plans to sell them. Though I might be conned into trading them... ;-)

I would also suggest the Dragon. You may find the round things difficult to lift and turn... Cute lil' Dragon - where did it come from?
What, do you have no fantasy minis???
