Magic is of course, our favorite game, and the favorite game of many people around the world, by far, the most popular card game, even if Wizards of the Coast made a movie (they certainly have enough extra money) if every magic player went once, they'd still probably make a profit. So, if WOTC made movies out of Magic, which block would you like to see as a movie? Which ones do you think would be best on the silver screen?
My opinion-Invasion Block, awesome story, chance to show off cg effects, vast armies of metathran vs phyrexians. That'd be soo cool! Plus Invasion was one of my favorite blocks, so I'm partial to them. Onslaught close 2nd and Urza block. Maybe Kamigawa block too.
What do you think? What qualities of one block make it more suitable for a movie than others??? Maybe if we talk about it alot, it'll actually happen!!! YAY!!!:grin2: :grin2: :grin2: That'd be cool!!:grin2:

I think that a magic movie, would be very awesome and pretty popular, as long as they did a good job with casting etc...
However, sadly, I don't think it will ever happen...

Lies! -I'm Buffy Summers, town tracker. I used my ability on you and saw that you didn't use any abilities before the game started. My flavor is I was sucked through a mysterious space-time portal and I'm here to kill all the vampires, and my tracking ability is a combination of my Slayer and Native American skills.
Yeah, thats true, there's alot of continuity in the sets and if we just started off at Invasion, ppl wouldn't know who Urza was, who or what the weatherlight was etc. So, they wouold probably have to start off at a new set, or the beginning of a story-line, Urza block would be a good place to start, getting to know the characters, then head to the Invasion block. Or you could start Onslgaught, just say at the beginning Dominaria, a world torn apart by war...etc. I would love to see these as movies, heres hoping!!!
Another part of the story that was integral (however u spell it:grin2: ) in the Invasion block story, was The Thran, the story of how Yawgmoth and the Phyrexians came to be. That would be a good prequel after the movie had come out "now that youve seen the war...see how it started dun dun dun!!!" *add cool music...here...yay!

I would like 'em to do kamigawa. Konda's crime, spirits turning against their human worshippers, toshiro as the antagonist, it's just perfect for a hit movie. There will be lots of chances to show of cg effects with all the spirits and magic like kanji around. It's going to be cool.

......WTF????....... I don't even know what kind of warning you deserve for this....
Thran to Mirrodin that's full circle, neh?
It would be a Logistical nightmare but it would complete the entire saga of Dominaria to date.
When do we get a block about the Thran anyway? They could just call it: BAH-Ro-Ken!

Attack one beating chicken of 4 cards, then erase 3 minus from your battleax. Never in your main phase will you do a 4 cards risen, but McDonald of 2 to the punish-bin. Again, beat softly to the end.
I would love the kamiwaga block as a film, but then I love japaneese culture so Im sliglty biased

I did not vote, because, I've replied to many topics like this. It looks like a lot of people here would like it, but I'm sure a lot of people I know would back me up, Magic as a movie would blow.
It would make Magic a sell out, and then Magic would probably sell out even more by selling more pointless merchandise just like Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh, etc.
I just think Magic as a movie is a little too, overboard.
Considering it ended up as one of the best MTG books, I'd have to say the Brother's War, aka Antiquities. It really requires no background information and has enough action, intrigue, etc. to make a great move.
As for recent sets, I'd say Kamigawa block would also make for a good movie.
I've got to agree on the Brother's War. First, it serves as a good starting point if they wished to continue on to the later exploits of Urza, as well as doing a prequel covering the Thran.
If this were to be done, it seems like it would be best done as cel animation...
There's already a very specific art style in use for all of the know properties of these stories, and not many of those seem like they'd transfer over very well to CGI or live action.
If you condensed, cleaned up, and slightly retooled the story for a new format,
it might at least be passable.
I think Magic has some fairly complex storylines to be made into a really concise movie. I've always thought, though, that the first Magic novel, Arena would have made a great movie.

"...because without beer, things do not seem to go as well."
All these options listed would make good movies. Weatherlight Saga and Urza block both had terrific character developement and I think would be a good place for the Magic movie franchise to start. Start with The Thran and do the movies in chronological order following the main story line.

There is no end things wrong with comparing YGO with magic, but I think the big one is that the Magic movie will probably be based on the storyline as opposed to centering around some kid with a wierd hairstyle who gains magical powers and uses them to play a card game.
If a Magic movie was done well, Weatherlight would be the way to go. The recent storylines seem tacked on to me, trying to create a setting for a card game and then throwing in a protagonist who goes around and visits all five countries in the block (except maybe Kamigawa, but that story isn't yet finished, and Weatherlight is much more iconic of magic). The only contender would be the Brother's War/Urza's Saga, but since the Weatherlight story took up such a huge part of magic, I think it should be the movie.
I think a M:tG movie would blow. Very badly. The story wavers between being overly convoluted and being overly boring. If I had to choose, I'd say the Invasion block, but even then a movie based on that would make no sense. Invasion block's story worked because it was the payoff to an arc that was being built up for several years. No movie could put all of that in, so you'd end up with things making no sense or the story straying really far from the source material.
And don't cite LotR as a reason it'd work. For every LotR trilogy, there's a dozen stinkers like the D&D movie.
I think you have to ignore the HAY EVARABODY I LIEK MAGIC SO A MAGIC MOVEI WUD RULE RITE? and actually think about the storylines that have been in the books, and how good the books have been. Have you people actually read that ****?
The whole Weatherlight Saga is what I voted for. I think seeing Volrath, Crovax, Selenia, Multani, Urza, and even Gerrard on the big screen would be very cool. You could have flashbacks of the brothers war, Gerrards upbringing and his rivalry with Volrath all those things could provide background without making the movie to long. Or they could do it over 3 movies and be able to do everthing(except Mercadian Masque).

I think it might be best if they went with a whole new story and worked from there.

<Qzilla> losing to girls at magic is such a high
Lotsa shiny stuff, an elf, a goblin, and a big metal man.
Plus, the whole story is self inclusive in a single block.

Urza's and Weatherlight for plot.
