What sort of clothes do you wear to a tourney, what sort of mind tricks do you try, what sort of attitude do you affect during the game?
I try to wear a trucker hat with dark aviator glasses, a bulky camoflauge jacket, and jeans. Try not to shave for a few days before the tourney, either.
I try to be friendly, but not chatty with the opponent before the match, and I always hiss at each draw of mine. I never touch his cards except to read something, and always ask 'permission' when I try to resolve an effect or spell.
I always play myself and my abilities down, and the only time I smile is either with a clear board, no cards in opponents hand, and a Phage, or the end of the game.
I play rather normaly.. Im helpfull and friendly, but Im rather strict with players on timing issues.. Even the noobs.. I just like to be able to play out my timing **** without them saying "oh, i didnt know that, can I redo that" NO!!

Just add me on msn if you have any questions or just want to talk
I dress normal casual. I usually focus more on my hand/board than looking at the opponent. I'm only as chatty as my opponent. I'm very careful to declare everything, and wait for confirmation before doing anything in addition.
Even though my big tournament losses > wins, I'm getting better about it.
I try to be polite + have fun, although occassionally when I am on a bad losing streak + my deck craps out on me for the Nth time, I get sullen... + have to make an extra effort to not be a sore loser.
Otherwise I like to joke around :dance2:, make sound effects, + generally be scrubby in my approach - it puts the more serious players off guard as they do not take me seriously, + with less strict players it makes for goodfun... I am always surprised how many folks seem to forget they are playing a game.
I try to comment on good plays as well, + be humble when I am smashing face :sorry:
Long black leather trenchcoat. Black shirt. Black pants. At least when I'm playing my Void deck. When I play the Rock at the occasional ext tourney, I where black clothes with a green jacket. you get the idea.
As far as opponent interaction goes, I'm polite. If he asks a question, I answer, but I don't initiate off-topic conversation. I act deadly serious. I am a nazi when it comes to rules. I bluff when playing blue, or when my opponenet thinks I might be playing blue. I do not, under any circumstances, tell my opponent what I am playing. If he guesses, I give him a look that seems to say: "are you sure about that?" I am meticulous when it comes to asking my opponent's "permission" before going on.
the things i do tend to be important i believe on several levels...and this is for serious dci tournaments only (states, ptq's, etc), other than those i am a very casual player. but at serious tournies i never organize the cards in my hand as when a player does that you can figure out how many lands they have etc., and i'm very picky about timing and rules and once something is done it's done. and when playing i usually try to stare down the opponent as much as possible as with a lot of players you can tell it makes them nervous and maybe forces a play mistake.
I try to get in my opponent's head. I don't do it as much against players that I am better than, but if you can get them off of their game enough it can win you matches. I was playing against a Tooth and Nail deck while playing U/W and I told them that they could play a 4 casting cost spell and Tooth on the same turn. I didn't have enough mana to counter Tooth and Nail without her tapping some of her own. So she played a Solemn and then cast Tooth which was then countered.
Long Leather black trench coat, dress shirt not tucked in, black slacks, black leather shoes.
People who try to play mind tricks on me make me laugh quite hard. I never organize my hand. Im quite friendly, and ill tell jokes and the such. Let my opponet take back any moves they need to. And if they make a mistake I always correct them, and show them how they are supposed to and give them advice on how they should play particular cards. I do play competitively despite these things. I always want my opponets at their absolute best. As for cheating I have zero tollerance. Cheaters dont desirve to play this game. As for mind games you could say that I do sorta. I act very naive and always smile, but thats just my style. I never act like a hotshot or brag or anything, dont see a point in it.
I wear my punky hardcore skid skater clothes...no just joking...
I wear whatever I find in my room, and I often look right in thier eyes, I call it the Concentration Glare...and sometimes when I lay a decent card down I will look at them funny, to see what thier next move is, I often tell jokes(like the guy up there aid^) to lighten the mood if its just a friendly game because some people get into it to hard, especially if your wasting them or they are wasting you...haha one time I saw a guy who was wereing those glasses with the snake eyes in them...he said it gives him an edge and they cant see his eyes...

Sleep never comes quick enough to protect us.
there is no shelter in the present from the ghosts of the past.
like well driven nails,
memories dig their claws in our backs.
revealing our black hearts,
unable to forgive ourselves,
our parched mouths pray for rain
and only the clouds bear witness as we wither away...
I play poker style
if i can get them to talk they essentially reveal their hand
I've made someone tell me their hand before

Asking people to remove quotes in their signatures is tyranny! If I can't say something just because someone's feelings are hurt then no one would ever be able to say anything! Political correctness is stupid.
Always wear the same T-shirts to each type of tournament. "Who flung poo?" with a monkey on it looking to the left for limited tourneys and the a black T-shirt the says "Pissing off the entire Planet, one person at a time." for contructed tourneys. Probably should eb the other way around as my limited rating is the only one I can keep above 1800.
Vocally, I'm friendly and helpful to newer players, but if I know your a competent player I'll harass you in the "nicest way possible" just to shake you up. If intimidation works, why not use it? I for one am not good with the poker face style of play, I give away too many signals, so I avoid trying to keep quiet.
I wear black, usually some dark black jeans with some kind of design down the side of the pant leg and a black hoodie of some sort (if I have the money prior to a prerelease I like to make hoodies with the prerelease logo on them. The head judge asked me where I got my Darksteel one at because only staff was supposed to have them, and I told him I made it :D). Usually when waiting on my opponents to do something I cross my arms on the table with my right hand. I'm usually a bit quieter, and use alot of motions to speak for my actions and don't say much. My actions are swift as I'm usually able to be quick about my decisions though occasionally I have to take time to decide on an action and think about it. I usually play so quickly it almost seems impulsive, but its usually not. I pay very close attention to my opponent's side of the board and their actions, I watch their eyes because if I know the deck they're playing or some of the cards in it when they look at their cards and at mine I can usually tell what they're aiming to do. I find that often times my quietness and lack of facial expression intimidates players and they get nervous. I always make sure I appear as though I seem to have the answer to everything, and take no reaction to things they do, even if they wipe the entire board or ruin what I've been setting up for a few turns.
Trogdor shirt.
I usually try to do *something* that will throw my opponent off, if I'm playing someone I don't know. If I'm playing against someone younger than me, *flick flick flick* go the cards in hand. Basically, try to intimidate them, make them think I'm one of The Good Players. Though I'm not. Against people older than/obviously better than me, I play the wide-eyed n00b. HAY THIS CARD IS TEH GOOD before the game, etc. Act like a scrub.
I always shake hands. Always.
During the game: constant chatter. Constant.
I dress in my dark attire. :wierd2: Then, before each match, I pull out a small budda statue. After winning a couple games, the Budda statue realy starts to freak people out. The last tourney I was at, some guy actualy tried to get a judge to take the statue away, saying it gave me an unfair advantage.

"HEY! Lets all go sacrifice sheep to add to our mana pool!"
:fingers:
I fidgit, shuffle my hand, where the same things I usually wear. The most noticeable thing I do is laugh at random times and make rude comments shortly thereafter.. I am told it gets really annoying but I can't help it. When I'm playing with kids though, I try to enjoy myself at their expense. Rude comments, respond to everything with "You do that. Take your time." and the like. Fun times
I usually just sit there, looking around as if i didn't care, and most times (even during tourneys) i don't. (all my rankings suck. Majorly) If I am serious about a game, I am watching my opponent(s) very carefully... I actually remember getting a warning for watching an opponent too closely, but it might not have happened.. ( I am crazy after all.)
I am very polite, but I don't let my opponent get away with anything. I enjoy being cordial because I think it makes the games more enjoyable and run more smoothly. When I go to tournament I generally dress nicer than I do normally, but comfortably. If my opponent is in to it, I engage in light small talk, generally about the set (the tournaments I go to are generally prereleases) and about how they have been doing in the rest of the tournament.
Im to freindly when I play most of the time I let my opponents take back stuff and I like to talk alot during games. I try to remember that my opponent is still Human and its only game and I try and keep the atmosphere light even after games I try like to stay on freindly terms with my Opponents. Although sometimes when im playing against newer players I just act like its a free win and that usually takes alot of the pressure off and is a good way to unnerve your opponent. I usually just dress in Jeans and a shirt.
I'm a bit of "twitchy guy" when I play. I ask if my opponent is done a little too often. I worry about the time limit because I always play slow control decks, so that's probably why I'm so twitchy.
If my opponent screws up in a way that has little or no effect on the game I'll mention it, but let it go. I'd rather earn wins than steal them, so I don't complain when they make a small mistake. Unless they do something rediculous that messes up the game completely, then I'll probably want some sort of ruling from a judge to be applied.
For some reason I always wear a grey hooded sweatshirt and some sort of pants with pockets on the side. Usually grey as well.
I don't eat while I play, but sometimes I'll drink something.
When I draw a card, I take the top card of my library and put it on the table face down to make sure there's only one there. I think everybody does that though. I use a pen and some paper to keep life totals and notes. Again, everybody should do that as well.
the way i see it, just play the game. the energy you spend trying to throw your opponent off is probably throwing you off.
of course i'm one to talk.....i'm a fairly calm player now, but back when i was a chess tournament player i was mr. fidgity, up and down pacing all game long (and those rounds are a LOT longer than magic rounds, hell one round in a chess tournament is longer than most magic tournaments)
now i'm older, and i'm just there to enjoy the day. if you're sure about your own skills, you don't have to resort to mind tricks that are as obvious as what some of you describe.
like the song says: its the little things that kill.
i gennerally were just whatever i put on no thought... litterally even in the morning when i got dressed. i try not to tell someone how to play there deck when they blatantly screwup constantly. i am 6'4" tall and weigh in around 330lbs so i dont need to act intemadating im just huge compared to most of the players here. im also tattooed and pierced. as far as play twitches i think i have every one in the book (what im trying to say is all the gotcha cards screw me over hardcore).
I typically wear a plaid, usually cotton, button down shirt, khaki pants, some socks, a cardigan if the weather neccesitates it. The same glasses that I wear every day. Nothing out of the ordinary really.
I tend to be calm and analytical, however a bit spastic, I may at times exhibit some nervous motion, though I cannot easily prevent that. I strongly dislike attempts at revocation and clearly unsportsmanlike demeanor, but usually I don't vocalize this unless it becomes a significant problem.
I might have some water with me, in which case I could be drinking it.

I wear in dark usually black clothing(Blank hoodies and sum kind of band shirt or sumtin like that who cares) When its not my turn i always shuffle around the cards in my hand and try to mess around with my opponent. I play sort of fast during my turn but usually think before i do things. I also keep some dice next to me and start messing around with that. Also i like to say send when i swing at people :biggrin3: lol.
I wear casual. Just whatever I always wear, I never change it unless they won't let me in the door.
I just act friendly, kinda less than serious... pretty much anything that classifys me as little threat. I always play rouge, so that helps in that regard, too. Then I notice how my force has somehow gotten enough to kill them, and do so. When they insist that it was a fluke, I agree with it. You'd be surprised the advantage you get when your opponent underestimates you.
