Hello everyone. I just wanted to update people in case they are interested. Below are links to the entire block. Currently the 1st and 2nd sets are printed and are being drafted and so far have worked amazingly well. I want to say thank you to anyone who viewed, commented, or offered feedback, and to anyone who does so in the future. Any and all comments are greatly appreciated. I DO NOT OWN MARVEL COMICS OR ANY CHARACTERS OR IMAGES REPRESENTED ON THESE CARDS. IMAGES TAKEN FROM GOOGLE. ALL CREDIT GOES TO ARTISTS AND CREATORS. I HAVE NO INTENTION OF SELLING OR MAKING ANY PROFIT ON THESE CARDS. FAN MADE JUST FOR FUN.
Thanks man! I worked really hard on them. Got any feedback? I'm looking for criticism. I'm SURE some of them are just WAY TO POWERFUL but hey... its Marvel ha ha. Anyways what do you like and what don't you like?
This isn't really a set. All of the creatures are legendary, and I'm not done looking through yet but the cheapest creature I've seen so far is 3 cmc and the card type ratios seem wayyyy off. This doesn't lend itself to a very fun block constructed or limited format. There are cool splashy things, but the success or failure of each set really does lay in it commons.
Now, you have some really cool things going on here. I really like the mutant spell cycle. Strength of the Beast should probably lose trample, but I think you knocked these out of the park.
There are some formatting and color pie issues (eg. PW Spiderman's +ability seems much more white than blue and it is certainly not red at all). It's weird seeing something as a planeswalker and a creature in the same "set." There are also way too many keywords in here, it's confusing and most cards leave no space for reminder text.
There are a lot of fun cards in here. Don't think I dislike your cards, you did a really good job putting Marvel characters into MtG. As a holistic set though, it isn't really well put together. Even if it's Marvel, don't be afraid to have 2/2's for 2 or utility 1/1's if you decide to make this into more of a set. There are still police officers, petty criminals, etc. Not every creature has to be a legendary superhero, most of the people in the marvelverse aren't.
You are so right! I knew that when I made the cards. Originally I did have a lot of the cards as less powerful and uncommon (ill admit that making anything common was rough) but having things like Bullzeye and Black Widow and other human non-super powered things be uncommon but still "legendary" didn't feel like I was doing them justice. Currently, you are right it cant really be called a "set" as there are not nearly enough commons and uncommons. It is a really good idea about the "cops" and other "common" people. places, and things in the marvel universe to be the commons and uncommons. Thanks! Obviously there is till a TON of work to do on the set, I just wanted to get opinions on the cards outside of my own playgroup. Keep the criticism and reviews coming please
I always wanted to work on a superhero themed set. Commons and uncommons could be, like you said, cops and normal citizens, or evil henchmen/underlings. It would make a cool "legends matter" set.
headley basically said it all; you've done a pretty good job of converting these characters into believable magic cards. I especially like wolverine, mostly because putting 3 or more keywords on a card is usually bad design, but for this specific card it works out perfectly. There are a few color pie issues here and there, but other than that, I'd say thumbs up.

"In the beginning, MTG Salvation switched to a new forum format.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
It was at that moment that I realized: I'm kinda just making these things up. We can just write the rules the way we want them to work. People will have fun, and people will get it.
Thanks man! Yeah Wolverine was a tough one to design as he was always one of my favorite characters. What do you guys think of my keyword Eternal? Its just the Darksteel Colossus ability. I only put it on the cards that I thought it made sense on. Characters that were so immensely powerful that needed it.
Hey guys here are ALL NEW CARDS. I tried to make some more common and uncommons. I also wanted to say that I added underlining theme of Heroes vs Villains and so changed most of the previous cards to be either hero or villains. Some cards have the keyword Neutral (This creature may be treated as a hero or a villain). Thoughts?
Hey guys. So I went back to square one and really tried to design an actual functioning set. The links above this post is my first attempt. Set 1 of 3 in the Midgard Besieged Block. Please comment. Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated. I hope to get some real traffic on this forum. Thanks!
Apocalypse: Slight wording fix: "T, Sacrifice a creature other than ~, Return target creature from a graveyard to the battlefield with three +1/+1 counters on it. That creature is a black Horsemen in addition to its other colors and types."
Avengers Assemble: "from your hand"
Beast: Blue doesn't really get first strike, so maybe he could become two colors? (or just drop first strike.)
The thing: This so far is the only hero that has his real name on the card, which seems a bit odd.
Bishop: there's way too much stuff on here. I would start by removing suspend (why is it on here?), then use a slight wording change:
"If damage would be dealt to ~, put that many +1/+1 counters on it instead."
The rest should be fine.
Black Cat: Neutral basically equates to having two more creature types that you just didn't write on the type line. It would be more interesting if it were something like this:
Anti-hero(Whenever an effect would check this card's creature type, you may choose to have it count as a hero or villain for that effect.)
It would take some rules finagling to work, but it becomes a lot more interesting.
Black widow doesn't have a creature type.
Bullseye is pretty sick as an uncommon. Any form of repeatable removal is going to be a beating in limited.
CA's Sheild: "Equipped creature gets +0/+6, loses defender, and has "T, Unattach CA's Shield: this creature deals damage to target creature equal to its toughness.""
Note that with this wording the shield is unattached first, meaning you won't get to deal extra damage with its toughness boosting effect.
A bit short on time so I'll look through the rest later. So far everything has been pretty good, though with a couple of "lesser" legends at uncommon it would be cool to see more legend matters stuff. Also, this is all probably a lot cooler to someone who know more about the marvel universe. Anyway, still pretty cool.

for the first one:
Avengers Assemble: Needs to be an instant
Heroism: This seems really broken. Compare to affinity
Back to Hell: A more elegant wording would be "Exile target permanent that is red, black, and/or is a villain."
Beast: The flavor of this card seems off to me. Beast is just naturally smart and he sure doesn't revel in killing. And the first strike seems off to me too.
Black Cat: Waaaaaaaaay overpowered for an uncommon. I'd limit it to hand and make her a 1/1.
Bullseye: Ability is to inexpensive. Bump it up to 2BB,t?
Captain Skrull: I'd try to work out a skrull mechanic that shows shapeshifting.
Cerebro: Shouldn't it only find mutants?
Carnage: P/T?
Cosmic Energy: Too inexpensive! 2UU, at least.
Daredevil: I think the gustcloak ability would work well on him. I also don't see what is red about the character in terms of flavor.
Discovered: I think you can come up with better flavor for a burn spell. This makes little sense.
Doctor Strange: Awesome card! You got the flavor perfect. I'd just bump up the mana cost by 1 so you could make him a 5/5.
Electro: has a Chroma ability
Emma Frost: Second ability should be cheaper, at most 3.
Epic clash: WAAAY overcosted. Prey upon
Punisher: Needs first strike/reach.
Gambit: Two flips, and even still each cost should be 1 more.
Ghost Rider: Haste and gives haste?
Hawkeye: I'd word it like crossbow infantry. Also his color alignment is off, I dont get why he is in gruul colors.
Hired Goons: Just can't block at all.
Hulk: Shroud? Also, the Hulk doesn't really grow like the ability suggests. I'd redesign him.
Hulks rage: Could cost 1GG.
Nightcrawler: I'd change his second ability to 2U,T: Return ` and target creature to their owners hands.
Green Goblin: I wish you could show his gadget flavor more.
Spider Man: I'd just give him hexproof and then add an ability which could tap creatures for a turn.
Primary Target Acquired: Cost of B.
Red Skull: Villain and henchmen have...
Rogue: I'd make it whenever she deals damage to a creature. She does have deathtouch, so it's a bit redundant. I'd make her power 1 for the same reason.
Wanda: The die roll is the same thing as a coin flip. Same odds, no reason to use a d20.
Thank you do much for your great feedback guys! @Moon-E and FUNGUS. I took a lot of your input into consideration and made a lot of changes to the cards based on your suggestions. The biggest change being that Neutral now works like unleash. Its worded as Neutral: You may choose to have this creature enter the battlefield as either a hero or a villain. The reason behind this being that it works to well with Heroism / Villainous. I like the idea of the Skrull having their own mechanic. Can anyone help me think of one to capture their flavor?
Ive looked it all over and I have to say that I am really impressed. How long did it take to make this entire block? The one thing im concerned about is Heroism and Villainous being BROKEN. Also, are the "heroic" and "nemesis" planeswalkers considered heroes and villains? I will comment more when I have a bit more time and have looked it over more. But overall awesome and I hope this gets a lot more views.
1. White and blue love flying and don't get reach.
2. Red doesn't get deathtouch, which is black and green.
3. Hexproof has replaced shroud and is not red or white at all.
4. Mutant is a subspecies
5. Green never sacrifices its creatures and pumps power and toughness
@ Michealin White and blue have a few because it makes sense FLAVOR wise. Spiderman, Reed Richards, and Otto Octavius cant fly but they can do a good job dealing with things that can. Also green does have pump and there are no mono red creatures that actually have deathtouch. Red Skull is a red card that gives henchmen and villains deathtouch but he is the exception. Only few creaatures actually have hexproof as in testing I found it to be too strong and im not sure what you mean by "replaced" and mutant is an important creature type yes. I guess im just a little confused by your comments could you maybe be a bit more specific?
@ Anthonyt1155. The block itself took almost a year to "finish" and I use that term very lightly as it can obviously still be improved and is still being tested. Yes heroic and nemesis planeswalkers are considered to be heroes and villains and count towards heroism and villainous counts. As for Heroism and Villainous as mechanics SO FAR it has not been broken. Extremely powerful on a FEW occasions, but otherwise just a solid "free" spell every now and again. However I will have to still test it with the 3rd set to see if this stays true or does become broken. The 3rd set seems to enable the mechanic pretty well so again it will take testing to see what happens. I will get back to you on that, but overall thank you for looking it over and for being interested. Looking forward to more feedback guys! Thank you!
Interesting. As mentioned, there are some color-pie issues, though most are probably justifiable if you intend this to be a standalone format (which I'm assuming you do.)
The first thing that struck me though is your card Cursed Coffers is crazy similar to my card Cursed Coffers. Not accusing you of anything - it wouldn't bother if you got it from me anyway, but I'm curious if this was simply something that both of us came up with independently? Not that the effect is all that groundbreaking - what blows my mind is that it's the same name, same art, etc.
**** CREDIT FOR DESIGN OF THE FOLLOWING CARDS GOES TO THE USER ADVENT.****
Cursed Coffers, Blackguards Blade, Champions Blade, Expel the Shadows, Priest of Odin, Revelation of Truth, Blackbolt's Vanguard, the 5 shrines.
PLEASE NOTE: Credit was ABSOLUTELY INTENDED to be given to Advent for his amazing work designing the cards listed above. Although changes were made to those cards they were still based on his original designs. I had no intention of stealing his work. HOWEVER please note that while Advent and I share the same mechanic in our sets (Embolden) that was not borrowed and we both came up with that independently.
I would like to to offer a formal and sincere apologize to user Advent and would like to thank him for taking the time to look my work over, respond, and draw this error to my attention. I hope that Advent and the community can forgive this lapse in memory. Thank you.
No apology needed, glad you like what I've done. As to the Embolden mechanic, to avoid confusion (since they are two semi-seperate mechanics with the same name), I think I might change the name of mine to Inspire.
1. Frankly, the point you brought up doesn't matter because your, possible, inspiration Toxic Iguanar only gets deathtouch conditionally. Thus, red has no space granting the ability
2. Shroud was last seen in New Phyrexia, nineteen months ago, whereas hexproof is in standard right now.
3. If you search gatherer for "mutant" or look at the Gatecrash spoiler, you'll notice that mutant is never the first type listed, instead, being last.
