Welcome to the set thread of [b]Prodigies[/b], the second and final set in the Tirigort block, previously codenamed 'Detention'. (There's only two sets in this block because I can't wait to move on to the next block. I've already got it planned out.)
The theme for the Tirigort block is the library - or more specifically, the top card of the library. This is evident in the mechanics which are shown somewhere below this paragraph.
The story of Tirigort takes place on Academia, the plane of knowledge. The plane was created by the ancient planeswalker Varusta to serve as a meeting point of knowledge seekers. Eventually the Academy of Tirigort was founded by Varusta himself.
Tirigort is made up of five faculties, or 'schools', each focusing on different subjects of knowledge.
I'll also be sporadically updating Tirigort design notes in my blog on MTGS, which could be found here.
The two keyworded mechanics carried from Tirigort:
[b]Seek[/b] [attribute] - [effect] (Play with the top card of your library revealed. As long as the top card of your library is [attribute], this card has [effect].)
Seek went through a slight wording change because of some cards in Prodigies. Now, if the Seek condition isn't met, the permanent treats as though the ability does not exist at all.
[b]Remind[/b] [cost] (Pay [cost] to return this card from your graveyard to the top of your library. Play this ability as an instant.)
There aren't any new keyword mechanics in Prodigies, though the set has a very strong theme of [b]activated abilities[/b]. This will be shown in the cards.

You and I know Wishing Well, the artifact cantrip land is going to scare people, just because they're going to see a free cantrip and an artifact land. However, part of the drawback (balance-wise) with Artifact lands is that they acted as Ancient Tombs for Affinity, producing color and without the drawback. I think this is balanced though.. it's really just sacrifice fodder.
Begone! feels Black because of the calculated destruction aspect of it. White destroys everything for the sake of Balance. Black destroys only the opponent's creatures if possible. Yes, it can be argued that White is seeking to protect it's own people and so on, but I'm gathering reason for my argument from Void. Doesn't it feel a bit like Void to you?
Crystal Mind makes sense in flavor because White is a planning color, a trait it shares in common with Blue, but isn't very played up outside of combat. However, when you look at the effect...
Also, anyone who whines that Hypothesize is strictly better than Index.. well, just give them the finger and tell them Index is way too weak anyway. It's not like it's in Tier 1 competitive decks or something.

I would play up the planning-thing again; call it Long-term Goals or Long-term Planning or something. Crystal Mind sounds either blue or green (like a monk in the forest attaining inner-peace).
The Enchantment Land's seem confusing.. is it an Aura? Is it a land? Why not just make them free auras? Do you want to be able to sacrifice them like lands?
I think Wall of Denial's "instant creature" thing seems confusing and would just screw up rules. I would consider just giving him Flash instead.
What's the deal with Vampirize? Yeah, you can burn an opponent indirectly, but having a Vampire creature type doesn't do much for anyone. Are you planning to go somewhere with this?
So what's the conflict going on in the story? Is there some kind of war between schools? An evil being threatening to destroy everyone?

While the first set had a Seek [color] theme, this one had a Seek [card type] theme. (There aren't many cards that show the theme now because, well, I've done a lot of them but they're still unnamed.) While most Seekers this was are 'Seek creature's, there are Seek enchantments, Seek instants and Seed Sorceries. Considering that those types usually aren't as played as Creatures, I thought I'd consolidate some card types to make them more played in decks.

Wishing Well: The above paragraph explains the Artifact Land type. I guess people kneejerk towards cantrip lands as well as artifact lands, but I thought I'd give it a try. It's 'balanced' in the way that it doesn't produce mana, so you're exchanging tempo for card advantage.
Crystal Mind: Flavor-wise it's a spell that transparentifies the mind so that one can see what's going on inside. White gets Scry in this block, though mostly on creature effects. Blue still gets the scrying instant/sorceries and that's why it's a rare.
Hypothesize: ZasZ got it, it isn't strictly better because the cards are put back in the same order. Will add reminder text.
Vampirize: It's more of a flavor filler than anything, though there's currently one card that references to Vampires. To make it somewhat more useful, it now turns the creature black as well.

Time of Tribulations: Major wording correction @_@ It's quite an old card actually, I just dug it up from my archive of unused cards. I think I'd still be sticking to 'himself/herself/itself', I tried 'that player/creature' and it felt confusing to me.

Story: There isn't much of a story now, though I'd very much love to write one if I have the time. More fun the way I did it. Especially in multiplayer...
Could be worded less confusing, but would not be as it was originally intended to work.
Whilw your card functions the same, my idea was that the player/creature that played the spell/ability gets hit himself, so that player actually controls both copies of the spell/ability.

I gave the previous big set a spin in MWS. The mechanic's a bit swingy, but it's quite balanced with Remind as well as each color's take on manipulating the top card of the library. Then again I wouldn't say it's perfect - if anything, it feels like a prototype-ish Lorwyn.

I like the Seek mechanic, has good flavor and, as you've shown, can do some interesting things.
Just one thing though. Careful Pebblemage is a strictly better Psionic Entity and, to some extent, a better Psionic Sliver (assuming you ignore the fact the sliver gives the benefit to its kin). Granted, neither of these cards are seeing mass play in their respective formats...but I thought I'd point that out.
I really like Twinthrob Stone, that card would cause some serious havoc with my Gene Splice mechanic. Oh....the fun I could have with that artifact in my set.

The theme for the Tirigort block is the library - or more specifically, the top card of the library. This is evident in the mechanics which are shown somewhere below this paragraph.
The story of Tirigort takes place on Academia, the plane of knowledge. The plane was created by the ancient planeswalker Varusta to serve as a meeting point of knowledge seekers. Eventually the Academy of Tirigort was founded by Varusta himself.
Tirigort is made up of five faculties, or 'schools', each focusing on different subjects of knowledge.

The two keyworded mechanics carried from Tirigort:

Begone! feels Black because of the calculated destruction aspect of it. White destroys everything for the sake of Balance. Black destroys only the opponent's creatures if possible. Yes, it can be argued that White is seeking to protect it's own people and so on, but I'm gathering reason for my argument from Void. Doesn't it feel a bit like Void to you?
Crystal Mind makes sense in flavor because White is a planning color, a trait it shares in common with Blue, but isn't very played up outside of combat. However, when you look at the effect...
Also, anyone who whines that Hypothesize is strictly better than Index.. well, just give them the finger and tell them Index is way too weak anyway. It's not like it's in Tier 1 competitive decks or something.

Look at the top eight cards of your library. Put any number of them at the bottom of your library and the rest on top in any order.
Doesn't that seem like a Blue card to you? Like a super-Index or something? Also, I'm not sure whether I care for the name either. I would play up the planning-thing again; call it Long-term Goals or Long-term Planning or something. Crystal Mind sounds either blue or green (like a monk in the forest attaining inner-peace).
The Enchantment Land's seem confusing.. is it an Aura? Is it a land? Why not just make them free auras? Do you want to be able to sacrifice them like lands?
I think Wall of Denial's "instant creature" thing seems confusing and would just screw up rules. I would consider just giving him Flash instead.
What's the deal with Vampirize? Yeah, you can burn an opponent indirectly, but having a Vampire creature type doesn't do much for anyone. Are you planning to go somewhere with this?
So what's the conflict going on in the story? Is there some kind of war between schools? An evil being threatening to destroy everyone?
Begone!: I needed a mini Wrath-type effect for the set. I suppose white could get 'calculated destruction' like this, say Harsh Mercy. I guess it feels like Void because it requires you to pick a number.
Wishing Well: The above paragraph explains the Artifact Land type. I guess people kneejerk towards cantrip lands as well as artifact lands, but I thought I'd give it a try. It's 'balanced' in the way that it doesn't produce mana, so you're exchanging tempo for card advantage.
Crystal Mind: Flavor-wise it's a spell that transparentifies the mind so that one can see what's going on inside. White gets Scry in this block, though mostly on creature effects. Blue still gets the scrying instant/sorceries and that's why it's a rare.
Hypothesize: ZasZ got it, it isn't strictly better because the cards are put back in the same order. Will add reminder text.
Vampirize: It's more of a flavor filler than anything, though there's currently one card that references to Vampires. To make it somewhat more useful, it now turns the creature black as well.
Spellshard Caster: Yes, it should.
Time of Tribulations: Major wording correction @_@ It's quite an old card actually, I just dug it up from my archive of unused cards. I think I'd still be sticking to 'himself/herself/itself', I tried 'that player/creature' and it felt confusing to me.
Power Battery: It's not a basic artifact because there aren't any Seek Basic cards
Story: There isn't much of a story now, though I'd very much love to write one if I have the time. To very briefly summarize what I've thought of, Felix the protagonist fails his term because of some mistake that wasn't his fault, though he was recruited by Dorian and converted into a vampire before the mistake could be corrected. Then he finds out Dorian's grand domination plan, blah blah blah.

So... Karma's a bad ability that removes it from the game FACE DOWN for no reason AND has a bad keyword name? Yeah, unfun.
Unscribe is a hard counter if you're opponent's stupid or you get to let them mana burn. Interesting design, too cheap and poorly designed. Consider instead:

This is the best shot at it I could take. This keeps the card's original intent. As far as the players parts is concerned, it had to be different or else that player would control another copy of their Morbid Hunger. That would be rather pointless. As would be a lot of spells. More fun the way I did it. Especially in multiplayer...
Could be worded less confusing, but would not be as it was originally intended to work.
Whilw your card functions the same, my idea was that the player/creature that played the spell/ability gets hit himself, so that player actually controls both copies of the spell/ability.

I like the Seek mechanic, has good flavor and, as you've shown, can do some interesting things.
Just one thing though. Careful Pebblemage is a strictly better Psionic Entity and, to some extent, a better Psionic Sliver (assuming you ignore the fact the sliver gives the benefit to its kin). Granted, neither of these cards are seeing mass play in their respective formats...but I thought I'd point that out.
I really like Twinthrob Stone, that card would cause some serious havoc with my Gene Splice mechanic. Oh....the fun I could have with that artifact in my set.
