I was working on my Displacement mechanic when I came up with this idea.
Now, I had been thinking of a Thallid with Displacement that would pump out a Saproling whenever you remove a Fade counter from it. For those who haven't seen that thread...
Displacement 3 (When this is removed from the game, put three Fade counters on this. At the beginning of your upkeep, if this is removed from the game remove a Fade counter from this. If unable, return this to play.)
Now, thats kind of broken. Its one thing to slowly but eventually come back from the RFG zone, but if if I've got a card that pumps out babies, you want to be able to deal with that card. But how do you deal with a card in the RFG zone? Theres no place else to put it. Any card in hand, in play, library, or in your graveyard can be removed from the game but a card thats already been removed from the game can't be destroyed, discarded, shuffled, bounced, or sent anyplace else except by a few special cards.
Now, its possible for a card to do things from the RFG zone. I mean, we have Cycling and Flashback so clearly cards in play aren't the only cards that do things. And even cards in the RFG zone can have characteristics as with Imprint, Haunt, and Spelljack. Thats part of my justification behind putting counters on RFG'd cards with Displacement. It should be possible for cards to do things from the RFG zone, its just that you need to be careful with it.
Now, the flavor of the RFG zone is "You can't do anything about it." I Swords to Plowshares one of your cards and boom! its gone. But this can also be something positive. With Displacement, the card slowly fades back into play. You can't stop it from fading in (its inevitable), but you have enough time to come up with an answer to the threat when it finally does return to play.
But I just had another idea....
Its too easy to put Indestructable on a creature and call it a Planeswalker. Thats just too lame. Urza shouldn't succumb to bounce. People just won't buy it. Thats where the RFG zone comes in. Its the "You can't do anything about it" flavor. A threat that works from the RFG zone can't be answered. You can't target it, destroy it, bounce it, anything. RFG is the final frontier. Endsvill. A threat in the Removed From Game zone isn't indestructable, its untouchable. Plus, theres another flavor aspect to it. That is, where is the player? I mean, a player can be targeted. A player is clearly part of the game. Does the player inhabit a zone? Is a player in play? Or is a player in the RFG zone, interacting with the rest of the game? A Planeswalker shouldn't be down in the in-play zone like some sort of subservient blocker; a planeswalker card should be sitting next to you!
Thats how I came up with this idea:
Jaya, Ascendent Taskmage- 4RR
Legendary Creature- Human Shaman
Ascend- 4RR: Remove this from the game and put a Spark counter on this. 1R: This deals 1 damage to target creature or player. As long as this has a Spark counter, you can play this ability while this is removed from the game. If you do, this damage can't be prevented.
4/4
She starts out in her mortal form, but then she can ascend. Once ascended, you have a source of damage that opponents can't get rid of!
What do you think? Will this work?

Hmmm... it would be interesting to have some variable Ascend triggers, maybe:
Necromancer
BBBBB
Ascend - discard 3 cards: : Remove this from the game and put a Spark counter on this.
BBB: Return target creature from a graveyard to play under your control. That creature is a zombie in addition to it's creature types. As long as this has a Spark counter, you can play this ability while this is removed from the game. If you do, put a +1/+1 counter on that creature.

Cool mechanic, I like it.
Why not make it a keyword ability to clear the wordiness a bit?
Jaya, Ascendent Taskmage* 4RR
Legendary Creature — Human Shaman
[ 4/4 ]
Ascend 4RR(4RR: Remove this creature from the game.) 1R: Jaya, Ascendent Taskmage deals 1 damage to target creature or player. If Jaya has ascended, the damage can't be prevented.
502.ASC. Ascend
502.ASCa Ascend is an activated ability. "Ascend [cost]" means "[cost]: Remove this creature from the game and put a spark counter on it. As long as this card remains removed from the game this way, you may play each other activated ability of this card."
I don't have extensive knowledge with the rules but doesn't one requirement of putting a counter (whether it be a Spark counter, divinity counter, +1/+1 counter etc.) on a card is the fact that the card has to be in play and not anywhere else.
And if you'll be portraying planeswalkers with cards that is not how planeswalkers "ascend". Individuals with the spark should experience an elaborate death before the spark within them would flare thus transforming them into a planeswalker. So you'll have to add as an additional condition to "ascend" that the creature has to die (i.e. be placed in the graveyard from play, preferrably due to lethal damage)
Ascension 4UU(If this would be sent to the graveyard from play, you may pay 4UU. If you do, remove this from the game 'ascended' instead.)
Does that work?
Urza- 5WW
Legendary Creature- Human Artificer
Ascend 5WW(If this would be sent to the graveyard from play, you may pay 8UU. If you do, remove this from the game 'ascended' instead.) <Em>XU</m>: Search your library for an artifact with a converted mana cost of X or less and put it into play tapped. Then shuffle your library. If this is ascended, you may play this ability while this is removed from the game.

I dunno... the books always described him as a White mage but he seems more Blue, but with a splash of Green, Red, and Black for added utility. His artifacts can certainly handle such a broad mana base.

Looks like this version is better flavorwise. And yes, it works.
Ascension [cost] (If this would be put into a graveyard from play, you may pay [cost] and remove it from the game ascended instead.)
_____
502.ASS. Ascension
502.ASSa Ascension is a static ability. "Ascension [cost]" means "If this creature would be put into a graveyard from play, you may pay [cost] instead. If you do, remove this creature from the game ascended. As long as this card remains removed from the game this way, its owner may play its activated abilities."
502.ASSb Cards that are in the removed-from-the-game zone as the result of an ascension ability are "ascended".
Please do not make urza... Who is more than just white and blue, or anyother color for that matter. Urza's rage
Urza may use any color of mana hence cast a spell of any color like Urza's rage. But he's personality is definitely blue (and white). In the Planeswalker novel Serra said that Urza is white. Sometimes personality determines the color of a legendary character.
So I agree Urza is blue/white.
