Whenever Unspoken Horror deals combat damage to a player, draw a card for each Nightmare you control unless that player discards a card.
Basically, I want to help template this and make it function so that (assuming there are, 3 nightmares in play) the player can discard 1 cards for one nightmare, and you can draw 2 cards. Or however it might go.

Getting the last word does not mean that you win the argument.
Whenever ~ deals combat damage to a player, that player may discard any number of cards. Draw X cards, where X is the number of Nightmares you control minus the number of cards that player discarded.
"Hello! I've come to serenade you. I can't play guitar. I can't play this accordion either, but I thought it'd be less obvious."

Whenever ~ deals combat damage to a player, [process].
Now we need to define what that process is.
"for each Nightmare you control, draw a card unless that player discards a card."
Same words, slightly different order, but it makes it clear that a player can't discard one card to prevent you from drawing three.
