November is going to be Forum Games Month! The challenges for the month will be based on game threads in both this forum and from across MTGSalvation.
This game is a pretty new one, but one that's seeing quite a bit of attention in the Limited forum: The Community Draft, which I am running the third version of right now. In the CD, the challenge is to think about and vote for the next pick, complicated by the fact that it's a bunch of people who have to decide on it. In some special formats - Conspiracy, for example - there are even stranger Draft decisions.
Challenge
Design a "draft matters" card as seen in Conspiracy and Conspiracy: Take the Crown.
Make sure to include a rarity.
PLEASE NOTE: This month will continue the use of the "Mandatory Top 3 Rule." For this month, you must submit a Top 3 during a round's critique period in order to receive any points for the round. Submitting critiques as well will be worth 2 bonus points in the round.
Your submissions are due Thursday, December 6th, 23:59 EST.
Dutiful Proxy1UU
Creature — Shapeshifter {MR}
Draft Dutiful Proxy face up.
As long as Dutiful Proxy is face up during the draft, reveal each card you draft. When you reveal a creature card this way, turn Dutiful Proxy face down.
You may have Dutiful Proxy enter the battlefield as a copy of any creature card you drafted while you had a card named Dutiful Proxy face up.
2/2
Altar of Many
Land (u)
Draft Altar of Many face up.
As you draft Altar of Many, if you haven't drafted another card named Altar of Many, choose two colors.
Lands you control named Altar of Many have "T, Pay 1 life: Add one mana of one of the colors chosen with Altar of Many."
Paliano Mutamorph3UU
Creature - Shapeshifter (U)
Draft Paliano Mutamorph face up.
When you draft your next card after drafting this, record the converted mana cost of that card.
As Paliano Mutamorph enters the battlefield, choose a value noted with Paliano Mutamorph. This creatures enters play with that many +1/+1 counters.
0/0
Selvala's Gardener2G
Creature - Elf Druid (R)
Reveal Selvala's Gardener as you draft it. The player to your right chooses a basic land type, you choose another basic land type, then the player to your left chooses a third basic land type.
When Selvala's Gardener enters the battlefield, you may search your library for up to three different basic land cards chosen as you drafted cards named Selvala's Gardener, reveal them and put them into your hand. Then shuffle your library.

This is a tricky mechanic and tricky wording.
Cardz: You forgot to add 'make a note' or similar mention. The card seems a little bit overpowered. The idea that any creature can be cast for 3 mana could lead to some real disruptive issues. Clones can be cheap, but that's because the limiting factor is the creature already having been played. This could result in an 8 mana bomb getting slammed t3 while also letting the color pie get subverted. In the end, too powerful, but interesting idea.
Hemlock: As a card in play, it seems fair and balanced, two colors you need for a cost. However as a draft uncommon this is format-breaking. This is 95% second or third pick. Essentially it lets you flat out announce your colors rather than relying on subtle signaling. You just tell your neighbors 'I'm taking W and G' after drawing a W or G bomb pack one. It would fundamentally change draft, especially at uncommon. Imagine 3-4 players announcing their colors straight out.. that's a different game entirely. Not sure if that was the intention, but it is too much of a different game once this is announced. If this was chosen secretly.. it would be kind of dull, but not so game warping.
Raptorchan: First, a few wording issues. The second ability needs to be basic land cards with the chosen type, you chose the type, not the card itself. Next, its really powerful to fetch three lands for a three mana card. But like the Hemlock's card, it fundamentally changes draft signaling by allowing you to announce colors. It also allows your neighbors to pick a land.. almost certainly it will be a land that is a 'dump color' for them. SO three players have announced colors: One you are collecting and two your opponents are dumping. And since they expect you to be collecting that color, they'll dump it harder. In the end, this will likely give you a more powerful deck even if you decide to cut this mega-fixer. As a rare this is less table-warping than an uncommon.. but as it effects 3 players, it can perhaps be a huge headache.
This round was tough and the effects on draft and signaling are not usually a part of card design. Well done despite the rough tone of my critiques. It's a tough top 3.
TOp 3: Pretty close
1. Raptorchan: The situations it creates could be interesting
2. Hemlock: Interesting idea to tinker with signals but I think too wild for uncommon.
3. Cardz: Not bad, but I think it stretches the mana curve too much to potentially play anything for that cost.
Cardz5000
Tricky but ALMOST fair. You should be very careful while drafting with this but if you draft something nice, this will be a benefit from a big creature for low CMC. This feels like a proxy indeed. I like it.
Hemlock
Drafting cause doesn't feel really necessary here. Most likely it feels like some weird pseudo legendary rule. Probably rare, not uncommon.
ChronocidalManiac
Wording feels kinda wrong on may levels. But if we pretend everything is correct here, it becomes more or less something like Phyrexian Ingester without exiling. But it costs you 5 mana with only one chance to put out something worth it. Very tricky indeed.
Altar of Many
Land (u)
Draft Altar of Many face up.
As you draft Altar of Many, if you haven't drafted another card named Altar of Many, choose two colors.
Lands you control named Altar of Many have "T, Pay 1 life: Add one mana of one of the colors chosen with Altar of Many."This is a card that wants to be uncommon for limited reasions, but has all of the bits of a rare land, which puts it in a weird place. additionally, I'm not really sure why you have its mana ability formatted as a lord type effect instead of just giving the card the granted ability.
0/0This card needs to say that the card drafted after it is drafted face up, and Pyretic Hunter indicates the last ability would probably be "Paliano Mutamorph enters the battlefield with X +1/+1 counters on it, where X is the highest number you noted for cards named Paliano Mutamorph." This card is a bit on the weak side, and could probably be a colorless artifact creature, but I guess blue also does big shapeshifters from time to time.
1/1I feel like "...three different basic land cards of types chosen as you drafted..." would read better. A powerful but fun card, somewhat reminiscent of Paliano, the High City.
Cardz5000- This can be too powerful indeed. As a wildcard , this can bring later creatures earlier to the table or, what's worse, splash any out-of-color creature at no real cost.
ChronocidalManiac- I think this ends up bein in the other side of the spectrum, but as a matter of fact, it can become interesting in the second half of the pack. Still, you have to be very lucky to get something out of this. After drafting a 5cmc card, you'r left with a 5/5 for 5 and lot of info for your fellow drafters.
Raptorchan : This can also be very poweful, but ypur opponents choosing could make up for the balance. After all, you woildn't jam random basic lands to be fetched by this. As an early pick, it influences ypur priorities but it takes a huge balance hit in further packs.
