Theme You're ready to roll out in your vehicle, costume and signature line all ready.
Just one thing you're forgetting - somebody to bring along and witness your greatness. Is it your sidekick, confidante, butler, pet, creation, or just a random bystander off the street? Maybe a...combination of those things?
Challenge
Create a common Host creature and an uncommon creature with Augment.
They must also use or refer to a mechanic that is an 8 or higher on the Storm Scale.
You only need to put the Storm Scale mechanic on one of the cards.
You can use the mechanic on both cards if you want, or use more than one mechanic.
You can make a reference to the mechanic in a similar way to Ninja (ninjutsu) or Zombified (uh, like Flashback or something). I leave it up to your peers what constitutes an understandable reference.
Schedule
Your cards are due at 11:59PM EST on Monday, August 27th.
Resentful Armadillo3RW
Host Creature - Armadillo (C)
When this creature enters the battlefield, at the beginning of the next upkeep of target nonland permanent's controller, that player sacrifices that permanent unless they pay its mana cost.
3/3
Shock-Headed
•• Creature - Efreet (U)
Haste
At the beginning of your end step, for each spell that was cast this turn...
Augment 2UR
+2/-2
I can't believe MaRo missed that opportunity. And yes, I designed this to specificially play well with Mer Man
Graftable Blob3G
Host Creature - Ooze (C)
When this creature enters the battlefield, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature or move a +1/+1 counter from this creature onto another target creature.
3/3
Bat-
• Creature - Bat (U)
Flying B, Discard a card: This creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn.
Whenever a player discards a card, ...
Augment B(B, Reveal this card from your hand: Combine it with target host. Augment only as a sorcery.)
+1/+1

Aggregious Fanboy2B
Host creature - Human Gamer (Common)
When Aggregious Fanboy enters the battlefield, clash with an opponent. If you win, that player loses 2 life and you gain 2 life. (Each clashing player reveals the top card of their library, then puts that card on the top or bottom. A player wins if their card had a higher converted mana cost. Creature - Shapeshifter (Uncommon)
As you augment a creature with *Redacted*, you may change {A - one of its colors} {B - one of its creature types} {C - one of its artists} {D - its converted mana cost}.
Whenever you cast a spell that shares a {A/B/C/D} with this creature, ~ We had to redo this card because //

PS: The combined flavour text of the augmented card would be "We had to redo this card because his parents would be proud."
Armed-
Creature - Warrior (u)
Double strike
Whenee an equipment enters the battlefield under your control,
Augment 2RW(2RW, Reveal this card from your hand: Combine it with target host. Augment only as a sorcery.)
Doomfish being the hero that they are made me realise the Augment creature needed to be a rare. Here's my current edit because right now we can't edit the original posts.

Ok, looks like everyone got cards submitted - start critiques.
Let's try to have them done by the end of Thursday (in about 48 hours) if possible.
Edit - Hemlock's Augment is missing the +P/+T, please let him fix that for your final judgments. This is just because editing was messed up and people don't have to design augments very often.
@Host: That's some memory issue and quite complex mechanic for a common. Especially on a host creature where it's likely to happen multiple times. It's a good choice for a mechanic to use, but I don't like it on a common like that. A good choice for colors though. Feels very red-white.
@Augment: Augmenting +2/-2 is a fun idea. But paying 4 mana for it? That also makes the haste very hard to use. You certainly make the player overpay here. Putting this storm-like mechanic on an Augment card is asking for trouble, as Augment is not a spell. People will get this wrong a lot. Again, the colors are on point and I like the concept, but not so much the execution. It is a cool way to get the storm mechanic back a little bit though.
@Host: That's the wrong way to bring back clash. It's high on the storm scale for a reason. You even made it worse. If you don't get the clash win you get nothing. Clash was designed to always reward, but reward more when you win and people STILL didn't like it. Bringing something back people didn't like and making it worse is a bad idea.
@Augment: Certainly a fun card that makes good use of the variants design space. What I dislike is the changing power/toughness. That's very hard to keep track of, especially since there's no connection between the effect and the buff. People will be able to remember that there's 4 different variants that care about different aspects of a card, but they won't be able to remember which gives how much bonus. It'll end up confusing the board state, because you'll have to check all the time and can't just remember the card.
That being said, it's a fabulous build-around me uncommon.
@Augment: For 4 mana granting double stike I guess this would either give +1/+1 or +2/+2. Not the interesting part of the card. Caring about Equipments that way is a bit problematic to me, because you'll most likely never have more than 2 of them in your limited deck, which is very relevant when we're talking two-colored build-around-me uncommons. This should have read "Whenever an equipped creature you control attacks,"
@Host: How about haste, so it can work with itself? Also Frenzy is high on the storm scale for a reason. Just including it like that is a bad idea, or else they'd have shipped it by now with MaRo trying to bring it back. I like the name and having a host dog is something we're missing.

doomfish - Graftable Blob is a little awkward in that one of the uses of its triggered ability basically won't ever matter upon its own ETB but I suppose it's clever use of the host design space. Bat- seems both fun and absurdly OP; a one-mana augment that means the host's ability can be repeatedly used for one mana BESIDES pumping the host begs for abuse, although the fact that it does need a host in order to work and there's a fairly small number of those checks the power somewhat.
Subject16 - Clash seems pretty random here and I don't think hosts and augments are meant to out-and-out be "funny" cards, so I'm no great fan of Aggregious (Egregious?) Fanboy. *REDACTED*- has a collection of ideas I like but the use of the multivariant thing seems like it'd just get confusing in a non-fun way. All in all, good thinking, but...
Hemlock - Armed- is definitely the best of the augments in this round, with a strong but fair set of abilities. Cool Pooch is just meh - there seems like there would be a lot of times its ability just would not matter, particularly after being augmented. Anyway, didn't he have to go back to his home planet or something?
void_nothing: At first I didn't recognize the Armadillo's ability as giving a permanent Echo, and I think mainly that's because the ability in itself seems like the old RW taxing mechanics we haven't seen since Soul Tithe. I think having an effect like this be repeatable with an augment is very powerful and whilst it does forcibly lock you into two colors, I still think it feels more like an Uncommon than a common. Shock-Headed seems like it's fair considering the augmentation itself isn't a spell and so likely gives your opponents a turn to respond to it. The haste seems like a bit of an add on.
Doomfish: Graftable Blob seems like a solid design overall, and a good use of Graft. The only thing I would change is maybe to make the blob a 2/2 instead of a 3/3, as a four mana 4/4 host creature seems like a bit too good. Bat- I think is a very interesting design as its activated ability is abusable but also limited by your hand size. I feel that one mana might be a bit too much of a stretch on something like Numbing Jellyfish or Angelic Rocket. Both your designs are pushed and interesting.
Hemlock: +1/+1 and Double Strike seems like a very fair augmentation, and whilst the equipment enabler might be a bit difficult to attain it remains flavourful. A part of me imagines the picture just being a huge mass of arms. Cool Pooch is a cheap and decently balanced card that can do fun things with the Armed side. Overall great designs.
Voidnothing: Nice callback to echo, but unfortunely not veey fit for a common host. The trigger is also a nice callback to storm, but these two combined can be really powerful.
Doomfish: The blob is fine and I like how the modal trigger option plays here. The bat is not well costed in my opinion, with a built-in trigger and a bit too much of pluses for only one mana.
Subject16: very simple design here but I really like how you integrated clash with the flavor, getting the effect on the gamer to become a minigame. The augment card is wacky and goes very well with unstable mood. I like how you made choices possible with different costs and pluses. It might be a bit messy but fun nevertheless and rather powerful.
Guess this was a hard round to agree on - everyone got a single first place and doomfish barely wins by getting two seconds, while void is lowest with two thirds.
I'll let the tie at second stand and advance doomfish, Hemlock, and Subject16. Making last round shortly.

I'll let the tie at second stand and advance doomfish, Hemlock, and Subject16. Making last round shortly.
