Round 3
The sun is setting on the city of Annemarie. The marble and sandstone palaces shine in the remaining light of the day. Golden statues glint in the day light. A sleepless night lies ahead for the guards. For inside this palace a treasure, destined for the great tomb in the Pyramids of Jyzia is being temporarily stored. Rumour has it there is great power to be has in this item.
Challenge:
Design a rare artifact for an Egyptian themed set with an ability which can only be activated from either the graveyard or exile.
Clarifications
You can have any of the following:
An ability which activates from the graveyard only.
An ability which activates from exile only.
An ability which activates from exile and the graveyard.
An ability which activates from the graveyard and a different ability that activates from exile.
You can as many other abilities to your artifact as you desire.
Judging
Judge the 6 names below you. Judging consists of feedback for the designer and a top three. Annemarie? How did you come up with that one? It's a german girl name.
Cursed Sarcophagus2
Artifact (R)
Whenever a creature dies, if Cursed Sarcophagus is in your graveyard and no cards are exiled with it, exile that creature. 4: Return Cursed Sarcophagus from your graveyard to the battlefield. 3/4
Canopic Phylactery4
Artifact [R]

This one feels rather clunky, at least compared to Nim Deathmantle. Maybe it would be cleaner if the last ability triggered only when a creature dies and the Scarab is in your graveyard.
Seal of the Tomb3
Artifact Creature - Wall(R)
When Seal of the Tomb enters the battlefield, search your library for up to a Curse card and put it into your graveyard. Shuffle your library. 0/4
This is my favorite card of the bunch, not gonna lie. It's flavorful and easy to understand: break down the wall and the curse spreads from the shattered stone.
Pharaoh's Tomb4
Artifact (Rare)
Whenever a creature dies, if Pharaoh's Tomb is on the battlefield or in a graveyard, you may put a burial counter on it.
Remove three burial counters from Pharaoh's Tomb: Target player put the top twenty cards of his or her deck into his or her graveyard. This ability can be activated from a graveyard.
Counters remain on Pharaoh's Tomb as it moves to any zone other than a player's hand or library.
Nice trinket for mill decks, though maybe it could cost 1 less. I like the last clause: only one other card has that, and it's nice to see another using it.
Blood-Soaked Ankh3
Artifact (R)
Whenever you lose 5 or more life, you may sacrifice Blood-Soaked Ankh. If you do, gain 5 life and draw three cards.
Pay 5 life: Return Blood-Soaked Ankh from your graveyard to its owner's hand. Activate this ability only if an opponent lost 5 or more life this turn.
I like anything that draws more cards, especially to colors that really need draw (R,W, I'm looking at you). That said, it seems a bit tough to trigger the bonus. But I guess that's Johnny cards for you.
Crypt Ward2
Artifact (R)
Creature cards can't leave graveyards. 4, Exile Crypt Ward: Return target creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield. Activate this ability only if Crypt Ward was put into a graveyard this turn. 'Preserve the resting dead. Punish the avaricious living.' - Cartouche on Nephavis's tomb.
Simple and very flavorful: a seal that keeps the dead from rising from their graves. Good show.
Neffri's Scale2
Artifact - Rare UU, Sacrifice Neffri's Scale: Counter target spell.
Gain a poison counter: Return Neffri's Scale from your graveyard to your hand.
This one seems rather odd, because of the introduction of poison counters. Also, it seems weird that an artifact would do something a sorcery would do, but I guess that just means it can't be responded to outside of weird cards like Stifle.
SelesnyaNewLife - Interesting but with a boardwipe this thing is ridiculous
Zoomba - Neat but nothing super amazing
Am Shegar - Decently hard to get it going efficiently, but possible wording issues

GameWorldLeader - I remember Null Broach, which was a lot more restrictive than this and still managed to see a fairly decent amount of play in lock decks. Playing around this is very hard, and it's probably too aggressively costed.
SelesnyaNewLife - The counter abilities enter new designspace, which is nice, and are still fairly clear. But that's a lot of mill for the cost, especially when you can self-mill to get mulitples of these in a graveyard first.
Zoomba - This is certainly an interesting card, being both a silver-bullet against reanimator and a non-black reanimator enabler. Whenever an artifact doesn't something traditionally of one color there's always a question of if it is doing it too well, but this seems awkward enough to fit.
Am Shegar - This creates interesting boardstates and conundrums, but can still be played around fairly well. Fits an Ankh well.
Vertain - It's a very simple and clean effect that makes sense for an Ankh. Combined with some creatures with recursion and you have a nice engine that doesn't seem terribly easy to break, but which Johnny will have fun experimenting with.
doomfish - The flavor on it fits very well, and the reanimation effect is done nice and clean.
Egak
This is so weird, but I feel like I understand it a bit.
The flavor just doesn't work so well, you seal away one creature, but return another.
I like how the card generates card advantage.
Mix Master Mikaeus
I feel like the 6 mana activation cost is quite harsh. Then again the card would probably be too hard to play around otherwise.
The gameplay seems to be a bit one dimensional, trading your bad creatures for better ones, if you have any in your grave.
Not sure were this would go, but it's a promising concept.
Moss Elemental
I like it. A good card to go to when you really want a creature protected.
Jimmy Groove
Oh that's so sweet, I love it. Oh god that everything. So much flavor!
But would have been better to just be able to search from the grave, but maybe that's a power concern then?
GameWorldLeader
That seems hardly fair. Gaining poison counters isn't much of a cost for being able to counter almost anything your opponent casts.
SelesnyaNewLife
TWENTY?! No way man, that's too much.
The whole graveyard thing also seems tacked on and needless.
Much extra wording for little gain.
But I DO like the concept of tying creatures dying to milling like this.

Vertain: I get this card. Not sure about it being rare, though, as its effect is somewhat minor. Still, fine.
doomfish: Useless without any way to get it in the graveyard. Also, can be easily reworded to skip the whole graveyard shenaningans altogether. But flavour is there.
Mix Master Mikaeus: Tad overcosted, otherwise cool. Design feels very clean and polished, props for that.
Egak: I get the second ability, but the first one is weird for the key.
Jimmy Groove: A cool flavourful idea turned somewhat sour by weird execution. Why not make it search your library for a curse and putting it on the battlefield as it dies?
Moss_Elemental: With zero ways to get it in the graveyard by itself, second part of the card feels unnecessary and stapled on. The rest is nice.

Wizards can start putting booster packs inside dog poo and dog owners will still complain.
The reanimate effect is cool, but the 'battlefield version' is a weaker darksteel plate with a drawback. The Equip cost should have been less, since there is already a drawback to re-equipping.
It is a rather dead card without discard or sac outlets, the latter being scarce for noncreatures as well. Also, the exile effect is mandatory, meaning you could end up with a useless one-drop.
Costly, but efficient at what it does. Flavortext would have been the icing on the cake.
An expensive engine, but a potentially powerful one, especially with token makers like Avenger of Zendikar
Flavor win. Only downside is that there are not (yet) many curses worth tutoring for.
A repeatable Counterspell at a bearable cost and an ignorable drawback is just too powerful.
