June CCL: Every Good Boy Deserves Favor
Round 2 - I Know You're Out There Somewhere
After a week of researching the book's contents thoroughly - and cross-referencing it against other similarly arcane and occult works - you're reaching a conclusion you don't like: you'll have to find your wife before you can bring her back. And the path there isn't likely to be straightforward or safe.
For that matter, you aren't even quite sure whether or not you can go after her. So it turns into another week of poring over dryly-written tomes on the existence of other planes of reality, following up obscure margin notes, and generally getting far less sleep than you should be before undertaking something of this magnitude. Finally, though, you manage to make your way to another world - an endless expanse of hardpan desert, from the looks of it, with a sky of faded denim and an eye-wateringly white horizon - and back home after a few minutes of dealing with the unpleasant heat.
In one of the local newspapers, you post an ad, looking for an assistant:
WANTED: Someone to cross worlds with me. This is not a joke.
You'll get paid after we get back. Must bring your own weapons.
Safety not guaranteed. I have only done this once before.
—Respond to Box 15676
It's another nearly-a-week wait before the first response comes in, and by that time you're impatient enough that you hire them on the spot after asking one question: "Do you recognize this?" as you hold up a sketch of the object that stuck in your mind three weeks ago...
Challenge: So, who responded to your ad? You'll need to design a planeswalker card with at least one ability that isn't a loyalty ability. The mana cost restrictions this time around are simpler:
CMC no greater than 6;
No colors shared with your Round 1 card (so, again, no black); and
Exactly two mana of at least one color (that is, two white mana, two blue mana, two red mana, or two green mana) in the mana cost.
(You can have multiple colors, and use only one mana of a secondary color, but there needs to be one color for which two mana of that color is required.)
Minor clarification: the ability can involve loyalty counters, it just doesn't meet the rules definition of a "loyalty ability". Static and triggered abilities are fine, as are activated abilities whose cost does not involve changing the number of loyalty counters (so "2WW: Put X loyalty counters on Joe Blow, where X is the amount of life you've gained this turn." is acceptable if kind of dumb :-D ).
Round 2 cards are due Wednesday, June 11, at 12:01pm Pacific (halfway through Wednesday).
Round 2 critiques and rankings are due Saturday, June 14, at 12:01am Pacific (just after Friday ends).
I'll update scores tomorrow morning because right now I'm trying to get a few other things done as well. Round 1 critiques/rankings are late if you haven't posted them yet and will only be worth 1 point at most.
Scoring - and teams - are quite a bit different this month.
Technically, there are no teams this month. There's just the 22 of you, each out for yourself alone. Each round, you'll judge six people and rank all of them, 1st through 6th. You'll also be judged by six people as a result. The scores are weighted slightly:
8 points for 1st
6 points for 2nd
4 points for 3rd
3 points for 4th
2 points for 5th
1 point for 6th
...and two points are provided for giving critiques - one if you critique at least three of your six, and a second one if you critique all of them. (If some of them don't post cards, "no card posted" or something similar is considered a valid critique for the purposes of these points. I reserve the right to withhold a point for exceptionally terse critiques.)
This totals out to 50 points per round. Top 8 will be determined after Round 3, as usual, based on total scores from among all of you.
I'll put together the judging lists either tomorrow or Tuesday, once I have time to knock something together to do it - even if that "something" is just a partial deck of cards.
For Round 2, the six people you'll judge start with the eighth name below yours (wrapping around to the top if necessary). In other words, find the last person of the six you judged in Round 1, skip the next person after them, and start with the person after that. Again, remember to rank all six when doing rankings.

A mere ten days after the Mending, a young knight of Valeron and a young ranger of Eos made a discovery that would change Alara forever.
The1AndOnlyAGar — Skirth, Bender of Realities
I'm not overly fond of the mana-activated ability on Skirth. This could become a sweeper in the right deck. It makes it a lot easier to hit the ultimate the turn after you drop him(?). The emblem strikes me as mildly counterproductive, on the other hand, since you are effectively trading a 20-point life total for a 53-point one.
Koopa — no entry
Dragoon — Saint Vessia
I am concerned about this card; in a dedicated lifegain deck, she can gain loyalty counters very fast and perform extremely efficient creature control. That said, I like the way the abilities link up with one another.

Flintlock — Chenic, Cosmic Archivist
I am not sure why this card wants hands revealed. The shuffle ability also might be a bit much (in terms of handling time). There are a couple of minor wording issues. Are you new to CCL? Welcome!
I like the emblem a lot, but I feel like it needs to cost more so you use the +1 ability a couple more times.
You did a good job giving this walker unique abilities and its own feel.
SelesnyaNewLife — Tet, Spell Stitcher
Interesting attempt at a 2 CMC planeswalker here. The non-loyalty ability is amusingly combotastic. I can see this finding a home in some mill decks.
Good job making this character feel like a new planeswalker — it plays in familiar blue space without looking like a Jace or Tamiyo.
Asking out a girl is like trying to cast a first turn Necropotence. Sometimes the other player will have the Force of Will to say no. You shouldn't let that stop you from trying it.

Emille, Seven-Sting Dancer Shalin Nariya
Am Shegar: Alam the Toymaker - Not worth the memory issues (players will have to remember how many of the tokens are armor, and how many are blade.)
Covert Corsair: Kyra, Sun Seeker - A bit "combo platter" for my tastes, but pretty good for what it is.
The1AndOnlyAGar: Skirth, Bender of Realities - A non-loyalty activated ability on a planeswalker rubs me the wrong way.
GameWorldLeader: Tamiyo, of Knowledge - Too easy to get infinite turns with this.
Prophylaxis: None

(nameless one) — no entry
