Socrates and The Angel of Elysium seem to have disappeared entirely. Socrates will automatically be counted as 3rd place in his groups; Cythare submitted a card on TAoE's behalf, so use it.
Their partners (queensauce and Cythare, respectively) will have to submit both cards in Round 3, and they'll have to do double duty for critiques as well. Give separate Top 3s for each side of South Division, please.
(When Round 3 finishes, I'll make a decision as to how to handle East Division if its one complete team doesn't lead. Chances are it'll just be "Top 7" instead.)
In addition, all judgings that weren't submitted for Round 1 have been given the average (that is, everyone gets a 2nd place from those people).
The rest of you guys, go ahead with critiques. I'm not sure how "critique three people" became too much work this month.
There Critique BEYOND Complete!... I'm going to go pass out now.
Feeling lethargic and tired recently, so only doing a top 3 this time, sorry.Opps, reviewed wrong group. GRAA!!! You know what, screw it, Just to make sure I don't mess up again, I'm going to review all the groups that are not mine.
3) MagicProfessor28 (I love how your teams cards work as both creature removal(kinda) and combat tricks, brilliant =D, putting you in place 3 though was really hard to do, your entire group made wonderful cards)
2) Gerrard's Mom (I rather love this card, and though it is awkwardly worded(to me) I still think it would be an epic card to have around.)
1) ced395 (Now this is a kind of card I could get behind, an aura wish self recursion, though with a high price, it is still nice, and a worthy cost to turn any creature basically into an angel)
3) Solesticio (As great as your card is... it just seems very... over powered for the cost of 2... and if you use it in a game of EDH(just what I play most often) it is just a long term Mil 4, which is devastating for its cost.)
2) Noatz (I rather like your card, though its coloring feels... off to me, I dunno.)
1) Maokun (Perfect, just absolutly perfect the effect and power are perfect for power, cost, and color, bravo)
2) Cardz5000 (Your card just felt like... a slightly weird O-Ring, not impressed)
1) Saagn (Absolutely loved your card, very creative, it powers down the creature, but the ability boosts more then make up for it.)
2) Prophylaxis (Double kicker for a good power boost and possible creature removal, I like)
1) void_nothing (I just... love this, so much, it is brilliant =D)
3) PenguinTod (I just... am not much a fan of your spell, it works yes, and is multipurpose, but I don't seem to like it as much as the other choices, sorry.)
2) queensauce (I like your card, but seems to require to much pumping and dropping to be of use, though in the right deck, I can see it be put to good use)
1) Cythare (It is a little on the expensive side, but its a kind of removal I can get behind, bounce and shuffle it away, with the risk of them just drawing it again, but still nice.)
Okay, ones I weren't supposed to do but don't feel like deleting in case I was somehow right....
Sizzling Shackles... I absolutely love this card, it is unique enough and still effective enough to make it rather fun, and also the way it works could be a lot of fun, I mean, imagine enchanting Stuffy Doll with it
MDeds, can I switch void and Saagn? There are only two groups for South, and I'm comparing a removal spell to a combat enhancer in each pair.
Cool, I only actually have to critique 4 instead of 6 because of the drop.
SHOWDOWN: Cardz5000 v. Saagn
Veil of the Beyond: This seems really strong. It's Oblivion Ring plus flash for next turn. While cool, it's not particularly innovative.
Segovian Shackles: This makes me sad. It is unusable on small creatures, and makes your large creatures smaller, but unblockable. However, since everything on Segovia is already tiny, I'm not sure this is really in-theme. Segovian Leviathan would become a 1/1! And that's a leviathan!
Top 2:
1. Cardz5000
2. Saagn
------
SHOWDOWN: Prophylaxis v. void_nothing
Ancient's Godsend: This kicker wording is clunky. I understand that's how it has to be worded, but the fact that it's all hybrid mana leads to a potential for a very unclear play if you're in mono-green, especially since they cost the same amount. The volvers may have been confusing, but the play was clearer because of the kicker cost difference. Kickers aside, the spell is pretty cool.
Turn to Memento: Interesting. I'm not sure I would consider a giant Wall a "memento", but I like what's happening here.
Things etcetera (all my peeps are either dropped or posted, and I'm hopping a plane to Oregon in the approximate future):
Dropped.
Not a bad design overall. It could probably cost :1mana::symg: and be fair, and it has some grammatical errors that detract slightly. In order: Unclear antecedents (Target creature you control gets +3/+3 until end of turn. If it was kicked; hopefully the creature wasn't kick as part of casting this spell) and the wrong "its" (it's means "it is", its is possessive.)
Fun card; summing up the various comparables, it seems pretty reasonably costed. Good flavor, too.
1) void_nothing
2) Prophylaxis
3) Small Child (Dropped.)
Spider Bite :2mana::symg:
Enchantment - Aura (U)
Enchant creature
When Spider Bite enters the battlefield, put a 1/1 green Spider creature token with deathtouch onto the battlefield.
Enchanted creature has deathtouch and is a Spider in addition to its other types.
Casting cost is ok, green is all around this cost already. Rarity could be common but uncommon looks ok too. I'm not sure about the flavor of the spider bite changing the enchanted creature into a spider....? Otherwise mechanically it is a very feasible card.
Keltainen
Card
Frantic Conscription - :1mana::symw::symw: Instant (U)
Choose one - Put two +1/+1 counters to target creature; or put two 1/1 white soldier creature tokens to the battlefield.
Entwine - Discard two cards at random Fetch the Axes, Fetch the arrows, fetch the bows and throw a slob over the wall!
- Combat chant of Minian Monks
I like the discard entwine cost....I do not like that it is random. Spellshaping in white has never been random. It would have been just fine without the random part. Personally I would've reversed and reworded it a little too Put two 1/1 white soldier creature tokens onto the battlefield; or put a +1/+1 counter on up to two creatures you control.
This would help make the two halves of your entwine work together.
Polendino
Card
Might of the Meek x2GG
Sorcery (R)
Creatures you control get +X/+X and gain trample until end of turn. In a miniature world, the normal-sized man is king.
7 mana overrun? meh. This has little impact anywhere and I'm not seeing how the flavor holds together. It doesn't only help little guys like the name would suggest and it doesn't just turn them into "normal sized guys" like the flavor text says. Also rather underwhelming for a rare.
I like this ok, it’s a decent step forward from Oblivion Ring.
I think this is overcosted for its drawback. Colors that have worthwhile saboteur abilities aren’t going to like shrinking their creatures.
1. Cardz5000
2. Saagn
3. no-show
MagicProfessor28: Thanks! We actually thought about that version, and about a version that grows each upkeep, but in the end we decided that the activated ability and extra complexity were a worthwhile tradeoff that allows it to be used to remove late-game fatties.
I also kind of prefer to try and get my card names and mechanics to speak for themselves. I'd rather put more words into a mechanic than into italics, know what I mean?
Noatz: Thanks for your comments; we did kind of miss the mark on the Segovia theme this round. I hope to rectify that next round!
aside to maokun: I don't mean to speak for PenguinTod, but our thought process there was to create a situationally flexible combat trick. The challenge says to create a card that "should be usable to improve performance in combat," without specifying how it's to be used to improve performance - notably, it's useful both for decks that will use it as an offensive pump and as a defensive Humble, which I think is pretty cool.
queensauce: is kind of hard to evaluate your card without its pair, but then again it's not your fault. In a vacuum, I like your card. Repeatable removal may sound too powerful, but I think it has enough constraints to keep it on check.
Cythare: I appreciate that you went the extra mile and supplied the pair for your card. Your own card is a quite clever take on blue removal and I think quite playable and properly costed.
penguinTod: Uh, is your card the boon or the removal? Seeing how willows made one that's clearly a removal I guess yours is a boon? I guess that if most creatures in Segovia are tiny, 3/3 may make a difference, but losing its abilities doesn't feel like much improvement. I'd have liked this to be less ambiguously a boon.
I'm calling it right now- worst rare in the set. Even good limited players will find better bombs at common and uncommon no sweat. Worst. Episode. Ever.
I really do predict this to be our worst rare in set award winner. I'd be happier opening a jar of eyeballs, so I think anything worse is highly unlikely. This card wont just have zero constructed potential, but not be significantly better than a mass of ghouls in a draft.
Willows- I love this card for the most part. The flavor is there, though flavor text would have been nice, and there is only one slight nitpick, which is that I really dislike activated abilities on auras, so I would have probably made the effect something like, “Whenever enchanted creature becomes tapped, put a heat counter on Sizzling Shackles. Sizzling Shackles deals damage to it equal to the number of heat counters on Sizzling Shackles.” This way you could have left out the “comes into play with one heat counter” and the activated ability, possibly leaving room for some sizzling good flavor text!
Queensauce - So this card (Spider’s Venom) has a lot going for it. It has a neat conception, but I think a lot was lost in execution. For one, I don’t quite buy the flavorful tie between giving removal to a creature equal to power, but not less than. It just feels “off” in a way that made me have to look at the card a few times. I also didn’t really buy the idea that this would allow for repeatable removal like this versus the archetypical “deathtouch, reach, super toughness.” While I find the card intriguing, I would have liked more polishing on it so it could really shine.
Cynthare - So I guess I am supposed to critique the Mantle. It seems right of the bat kind of overcosted, especially since it only counts token creatures. Further, I really don’t see the mechanical reason to have flash on the Mantle, since it seems kind of tacked on. Other than that, I like the idea of pumping based on tokens, I just feel like there are better ways to do them. Also, I love Aether Inspiration though!
Frantic Conscription - 1WW Instant (U)
Choose one - Put two +1/+1 counters to target creature; or put two 1/1 white soldier creature tokens to the battlefield.
Entwine - Discard Two cards at random Fetch the Axes, Fetch the arrows, fetch the bows and throw a slob over the wall!
- Combat chant of Minian Monks
I really would have liked to see these effects revesed, so that you can drop the counters on one of your new tokens, also, White isn't a big fan of discard, and even less of a fan of random.
When Spider Bite enters the battlefield, put a 1/1 green Spider creature token with deathtouch onto the battlefield.
Enchanted creature has deathtouch and is a Spider in addition to its other types.
Interesting card, the name makes me think its going to be parasitic, but it instead provides a boon. Makes your little guy something to be feared.
Big_Cal - I'd rather have Gaze of Justice or Unmake any day. As-is this is too hard to cast for how expensive it is. Also seems to fit Innistrad much more than it does Segovia.
Arcel - As obnoxious as the "you or a planeswalker control" text is, I recognize that it's just a modern design convention. This could just have been a Gustcloak-style remove from combat, but blinking does have interactions that that does not. Clever.
Ninja_Caterpie - Sweet sweet holy mighty bejeezus this is insane. That is literally four mana for Slave of Bolas every upkeep. I don't know if it's intentional that it's missing the untap clause but at worst this is free removal every turn. I do like the design but development would increase that mana cost by a hell of a lot even with the Herald of Leshrac-style out.
and really quick crits
prophylaxis: cool card, but the hybrid kicker really makes the card look messy. off color kicker is supposed to reward you for playing multicolor.

Good card. It's a fresh design, and seems perfectly reasonable. One side note: I think it should be "enters with A(N) heat counter" and below also "an heat" (I didn't check, though).
Edit: seems I have to critique an pseudo-entry from Angel: This card can go from mediocre to really good. Seems a bit odd, but seems good in the right deck. Not sure why it has flash, on the other hand.
Savia: This card offsets the disadvantage an Aura gives by making it pop out a Spider. I would have given the aura +1/+1, but otherwise it's a flavorful and mechanically grokkable card.
Keltainen: I would have you divide up the +1/+1 counters. Do the soldiers come first or do the counters come first? I want to cast this and make two 2/2 soldiers. Also, bad entwine cost.
Polendino: IMO too weak, compare to the other Overrun spells. I would have made it cheaper. I like the X however, a scalable overrun is cool.
Though I am already saddened by my performance this month.
Diplomatic Diversion1WW
Enchantment {R}
Whenever an opponent attacks you or a planeswalker you control, exile target attacking creature, return that creature to the battlefield under its owners control at the end of combat.
I like this card. It feels like No Mercy but weaker and basically makes the biggest creature can't attack.
Cast Danger in Numbers only if you control two or more Humans.
Exile target creature.
“I stepped on one once. Now I watch my step.” — Gideon Jura
Our vision of Segovia is a land where a Roman-like human civilization has to join forces to avoid annihilation by huge roving monsters and even bigger intruding planeswalkers. Mechanically this is represented by a mild tribal theme.

I don't like this card. The two humans restrictions plus the 2W means that this is really narrow. I would make it W control two humans = exile or make it 4W and make it so that if you control two or more humans you can bypass the cost.
Dance of Dread 2UB
Enchantment (R)
At the beginning of your upkeep, gain control of target creature you don't control. It gains haste. Sacrifice it at the beginning of the next end step.
When each opponent controls no creatures, sacrifice Dance of Dread.
This seems really powerful. You steal a creature and sac it - I would hate playing against this card. The sac clause doesn't do much for me because this steals your biggest creature and sacs in, which is just totally stupid. I
