Card Creation League The Last (June 2019)
Round 1 - Ith This The Real Life
In the face of impending doom, heroes gather.
For over twelve long years, these heroes have heeded a call. A call that reaches deep within their hearts and minds, bringing forth powerful spells from a thousand worlds. They have journeyed across planes, overcome great challenges, and battled one another for a place in the annals of history.
Although they look forward to a new home, a promise from the void, the only certain thing is that they must say goodbye to their current home.
For this final gathering, each hero must call forth a commander from across time and space. Ancient ideas have appeared again over the horizons, giving rise to new forms. As they have often done, each hero will begin their final journey here with a legend, and at the same time respond to the call that first brought them together.
Challenge: Create a legendary creature with suspend.
Deadline: Wednesday, June 5th, 11:59PM Pacific (shooting to begin Round 2 and start critiques around this day)
Jasmine, Arboria WardenGGG

Jimmy Groove: I don't think all those types are going to fit. Also, why does the name change to Grod? Given the potential high risk involved with his ETB trigger to be "granted" the power, I think Demon might be a more appropriate Race for the card.
LnGrrrR: These should be two distinct abilities. One with wording like Greater Gargadon, and the other like Bloodbriar. Odd rules things happen when you sacrifice a creature to put a +1/+1 on itself.
IcariiFA: Only Planeswalkers use gender pronouns. "...remove a time counter for each 1 life you lost." (See Lich's Tomb.) The trigger that adds +1/+1 counters should be listed separately, as it's a static ability that is active only when Jazine is a permanent.
Algernone25: We went a similar route. As a creature, this is a little bland being french vanilla. The payoff comes in the cast from exile. I might have lowered the Suspend count to 2 for the Demonic Tutor effect, as this needs help to go off on Turn 6 as written.
void_nothing: So... many... words. Turning all your lands into Ancient Tombs makes me wonder how the Mirror Universe will be implemented as part of the set this gets printed in. I can also see a rise of Turbo Suicide Simic EDH decks being built with this as the General, given the mass acceleration it creates.
Hemlock: There's a typo in the name. It should read 'Endless Perks'. A reliable, repeatable CMC 3 with Cascade would cause some warping in Legacy. Not to mention the built in "dodge" mechanic that helps avoid removal of all types.

1. Algernone25
Eventide Sojourner - This concept is similar to my own. Not too clear on Jasmine's flavor and story but I believe what I see on the wiki. Repeatedly TUTORING for lands might be a bit much but hey, she's a legend.
Cardz5000 - Neat except for the diminishing-power aspect of the counter removal bit, although wording it the other way around would have been a pain.
Artorias - This looks both flavorful and annoying to deal with. No regular mana cost helps I think.
netn10 - All that for a vanilla 6/6? This seems like too many drawbacks stapled onto an otherwise very flavorful concept.
Subject16 - That suspend cost, it seems, should really really be an actual cost; it is harder to do broken things with this than past Emmies but still does them for free. Still, over the top and silly as a Titan ought to be, but the cast trigger is I think over the line as far as complexity goes.
TotallyHaywire - This is trying to do a lot of time-related things, all of which are cool, but it makes for a messy card. Name is also a little too... obvious?
kwanyeegor - That bonus suspend triggered ability is game-ending but I think for the cost and the time you put in to get it it should be. The token creation is a neat addition to a nevertheless very wordy card.
Jimmy Groove
True black creature with a high risk high reward base. I like the activated ability meanwhile suspended but 3 Damnations is too much for me, Suspend 2 for 2BB . I don't like 3 creature subtypes Zombie Horror Wizard, Zombie Horror seems fine to me.
LnGrrrR
Love the BG flavor but the +1/+1 counters on a Suspended card is a bit too much for me. I don't like generators of two different kind of counters from the same source.
IcariiFA
Love the time counter reduction idea. Maybe a bit strong but a really cool addition for Commander with a 40 life pool.
Algernone25
Okay. I love simple designs. Here is your top 1.
void_nothing
Nice flavor and a nice throwback for legacy players with Ancient Tomb but I'm not into Treefolks outside WBG (honestly outside G, eh, WotC...). Also I think Commander suspend, like Commander ninjutsu, has a ton of potential.
Hemlock
I really like the loop of this card. But for me it should be WU.
Eventide Sojourner: Makes me compare to Llanowar Tribe. 3CC might be ok, but 4 would be safer. Searching for any lands seems off for a card the cares about forest. Feels odd to go tron or some such with her.
Cardz5000: I think the mechanics and how they interact on this card is pretty interesting and would have appeal, but in the end this would be a storm commander or control that would't allow much interaction since he would oft be in exile. So the fun level is a bit low.
Artorias: I think the concept and costing of the card is pretty fair, albiet probably weak, as drawing this past turn two is underwhelming for WW or any aggressive deck. The flavor text is unprofessional.
netn10: This certainly feels like a Demon! Low appeal overall. Where it would work, it'd probably be degenerate combo/synergy. Otherwise it's really narrow card.
Subject16: The time counter trigger is pretty cool and fits a weird titan like Emrakul. The re-suspending itself part on battle entry if you choose to sac/produce tokens feels out of place. Let the count-down be one and done and have that impact.
TotallyHaywire: So using its ability, not only can you speed up Aeon, but have it enter on your opponents turn to redraw and end it. Re-suspending this card breaks it, since it redraws you the cards needed to immediately put it back into play, ending your opponents turn forever in 1v1. Doubly so since you can cheat this in many ways and still get it's own exile trigger. Not a fan of the name.
kwanyeegor: I like the mechanics on this card, as they have a interesting interplay. Adding a time counter for an effect is unique. If anything it doesn't feel like a Lich.
Jimmy Groove: I like that this guy epitomizes the "power at a cost" aspect in black. You get a huge hasty attacker but that sets you back by either lowering your life total to near-death or by forcing you to blow up enough creatures (including your own) to maintain a high enough life total. I like that you have options with this card: you can blow up the board in response to its last suspend trigger, or blow it and everything up in response to its ETB trigger. It's very flexible and not especially overpowered, even though the repeatable wrath threat for a few turns can be devastating in some formats.
LnGrrrR: I like that you follow Ghave's aspect of sacrificing things for counter manipulation, but a free sacrifice outlet for any permanent is a highly abusable thing and I think that pushes it a bit too far. There's also the confusing thing where you can put a +1/+1 counter on it whilst it's in exile but the counter doesn't actually do anything or stay on Ghave as it hits the battlefield. I feel like if you wanted to tweak that you'd end up more with a card like Bloodbriar not Ghave though.
IcariiFA: I love the idea of this angel being a rattlesnake whilst she's suspended, but I think she might have too many good keywords to be balanced. Let's remember that she'll enter with haste on your turn and you can pay life on your own terms to reduce the counters on her via something like Adanto Vanguard and that gives you a turn 2 Jazine with haste. I think swapping double strike for first strike already goes a long way towards making her more balanced for sure.
Algernone25: I think for the most part I'd rather just have Diabolic Tutor. The fact that you can tutor up on cast is nice and that you don't have to pay mana on that turn is also solid, four mana just to exile this is pretty steep. A Demonic Tutor callback at 1B would still be acceptable I feel, considering you then get your tutor by turn 5 at the earliest.
void_nothing: The flavor here is pretty neat, and the pairing of this card being from Rath and the Ancient Tomb callback is a nice touch, but this guy is pretty wordy and I think there are ways to abuse this a bit especially with the counter removal aspect.
Hemlock: Cascade is a really neat mechanic to pair with Suspend, and yet I think a 3 cmc cascade feels like it wouldn't offer enough to be super exploitable. Very nice design and I like the idea that it's repeatable. Not sure how Selesnya this feels though.
Jimmy Groove: nice and super flavorful for a zombie but using ability while suspended might be bit too much
LnGrrrR: doesn't reall feel like ghave because no saprolings, seems more like skullbriar also confused about how putting +1/+1 counters while exiled works
IcariiFA: really cool angel, seems like total mythic however it is very pushed
Algernone25: love it but suspend cost seems too high or too many time counters to be useful
void_nothing: pretty cool but too wordy and creates too much mana
Hemlock: definitely a broken card but would be fun to use, so many cascades lmao

你好 have you eaten?
I'm a simple Magic player since 1 year ago from China. Now I live in New Jersey.
Eventide Sojourner - This is a super powerful creature, both in play and counting down with suspend. I don't know if Rare is right given the advantage you can get. I'm already seeing dumb oathbreaker things with her, a UG walker, and Clockspinning.
Cardz5000 - Took me a sec to realize the suspend cost won't be affected by commander tax, you have a bonus for suspending it early but eventually the 3 turns is going to be cheaper than rawdogging it. Very cool design for a spellslinger-type build.
Artorias - Real cool idea. A better Isamaru but you have to wait to get him back, eventually he'll be outclassed. Still neat idea with the null mana cost, though I'm not sure it's powerful enough to rate it when you compare to the TSP cycle.
netn10 - So blinking this guy won't kill you (unlike Phage) which is cool, but I really think this should be your opponent's Choice of Damnations instead of both - it forces you to think of a compromise you can live with while also putting it down in some reasonable amount of time. Also, no evasion at all?
Subject16 - So Emmy's going to be chilling in exile basically the entire game, which is interesting. And then adding an anti-Counterbalance makes it really interesting. But suspend 13 is just WAY too long.
TotallyHaywire - So it's a Timetwister on a beatstick. however this just SCREAMS "break me" by popping the last counter on your opponent's turn (especially in response to a spell you don't like). The cost is a bit prohibitive but there's other, much simpler ways to empty it out. If it was like Day's Undoing where it only ends the turn if it's your turn, I'd be less sketchy on it.
kwanyeegor - with deathtouch his ETB is "destroy a creature for each creature you control plus each land you control" with any excess going upstairs AND you gain that much life. Really cool idea of keeping him still in exile a bit longer to maximize value, but your opponents are going to get smart pretty quick once they see it go off. Still a cool idea.
1st: Cardz5000 - everything else was just super OP in my opinion. Your card is still strong, but it's not TOO strong.
2nd: TotallyHaywire - while yes it is exploitable, you have to really work for it, to where if I let you do that on me I probably deserved it.
3rd: Artorias - I think underpowering a card compared to nearest estimate is better than overpowering. It's still powerful in its own right, just...maybe not on THAT scale. Still fine.

Eventide Soujurner: Searching for any land is a very powerful effect, but you need 4 mana and some time to end up getting hold of them, so it looks fair game if you compare it with Hour of promise. The suspend doesn't work from the command zone, so as a commander it is rather bland but very in line with monogreen spirit.
Cardz5000- Very powerful effect in two ccolors that care for comboing and storming. Wouldn't this be labeled "Eminence"? I'm.not so fond of the lack of interaction for such a poweful effect. You also got it right with commander suspend.
Artorias: Excellent pesky little fellow, pairs nice with wraths and such. I'm.not fond of the lack of mana cost, as you are rendering it useless as a commander and he would really be an awesome one.
netn10: I don't think I like Zerax much, but it has a weird, twisted charm. The idea of having this guy work on a arbitrarily chosen number itches in my brain and I am sure that many would be thinking atrategies gor Zenax on three, eleven or 100, I'm already chuckling at the idea of winning the game with this and Barren Glory or Near-death experience. Tticky things aside, I tbink it is not big or bad enough as a creature compared to something like Deep-Sea Kraken, so I would tweak a it a bit. A Zenax for 6 or 7 deserves a bit more beef.
Subject 16: While this doesn't look like it's ever going to hit the battlefield via suspend, the ETB effect is amazing if you cheat it somwhow or the game stalls enough. The trigger on counter removal is also potentially devastating if you manage to hit an early monstruosity. It looks rather hard to play with, but for those who like minigames within the MTG gamez it looks fun. The fact that it doesn't have a cost and can't be used as a commander is probably foe the best in this case
TotallyHaywire: I think the last ability breaks the guy too much. Two is too little for something that fueled your hand to seven and can lose counters for three cards.
kwanyegor: It's a bit like a Mantis Rider which is cool. The way it's worded, the guy will trigger the damage from stuff like Light up the stage, which looks seriously dangerous given that it has deathtouch and also counts lands.

I'm a simple Magic player since 1 year ago from China. Now I live in New Jersey.
Still fine.
