Welcome to the Card Creation League! Everyone is free to participate in either or both of the first two rounds. Come join us!
Theme
It's Puzzles and Patterns Month here in the CCL.
Challenge
Design a creature card whose base power is a Fibonacci number and its base toughness is the next Fibonacci number in the sequence.
Make sure to include a rarity.
Examples of valid P/Ts: 1/1, 1/2, 3/5, 21/34.
Yes, this means that with the exception of 1/1, all of the valid power and toughnesses will have greater toughness.
Stay tuned for April's CCL Final Poll. Anyone who votes will receive 2 bonus points for May's CCL!
PLEASE NOTE: This month will NO LONGER use the "mandatory top 3" rule. Critiques and top 3s will each be worth one bonus point per round but it will be possible to score points and advance even without submitting a top 3. This will also be done on a trial basis; future months may once again require top 3s from contestants.
Anyone can enter this first round! Your submissions are due Sunday, May 12th, 23:59 EST.

Top 16 - 2012 Indiana State Championships Currently Playing: GBStandard - Golgari Safari MidrangeBG RBWModern - Mardu PyromancerWBR RLegacy - Good Old Fashioned BurnR
1. Hemlock - Spiral of Mayhem
Keeps with the Fibonacci theme better than my entry. I love this design.
2. Eventide Sojourner - Tufted Meadowlark
Probably a bit overpowered at 1 mana, but I love that this produces colorless and isn't an elf to address powerlevel.
3. Mirrodin71 - Rector
Neat design, but doesn't handle lands.
BlackWaltz3
I would like it more as a WURBG card. The Enrage part that puts permanents I think is cooler on a deck build having cards for each color so you always are picking one card.
RaikouRider
I was a BR Madness player back in the days so awesome "looter" card. I think 1R is more balanced MC, like a red Looter il-Kor.
Fajen Thygia
I'm guessing this is the black God for a new God cycle with a 'can't attack' limitant instead of Devotion. I like the idea of using your other copies on Legendary cards, like the ability Grandeur. Quite hard to rate the balance on this one... seems fair to me.
Subject16
Love to see the a red Innistrad tree for the Tree of Redemption and Tree of Perdition minicycle but to be a 0/13 and having a T activated ability is mandatory for me.
mirrodin71
Liked the lore counter theme, it has cool design space. My problem is that I don't like the random part. As a WU card it fits to target search. Maybe card types related to those colors, like enchantment (white) or instant/artifact (blue) cards.
Kumlekar
Too complex, meta and strange even for silver-bordered UNsets.
Eventide Sojourner - Way too strong. In a dedicated snow deck this is going to create 2 or even 3 mana in a turn off of a one mana creature. Also seems wierd that it does not fly since it's a bird and an obvious analogue to Birds of Paradise.
netn10 - I don't know what flesh is, but it sounds terrifying ;). Kidding aside, I think the card is a bit cost intensive for what it means to do. 1UB and discard a card to get a 0/1 flyer and a force spike? I get that it can scale as you discard more cards and that you can use this at will, but cards are a heavy price to pay to counter spells. I feel like this card would be underwhelming in limited, but disgusting if it had the right shell in constructed formats. Still, some very cool ideas being explored here.
kwanyeegor - Formatting issues aside this is actually pretty well balanced. Green can get deathtouch and with the callback to cockatrice it is certainly okay here. This card stonewalls aggro pretty hard being able to play offense and defense with evasion, deathtouch, and pseudo-protection. Against certain decks in limited this card just wins the game as a good bomb rare should.
Algernone25- Seems like a bad Tarmogoyf that every deck can play. I think having to get the card in the grave and then exiled too and pay mana is pretty involved for a p/t boost. I know it works off your opponent's grave too, but still that extra 2 mana for each card you exile is quite costly and really weakens the card too much.
Hemlock - This is a costly and color intensive mana sink. I think usually I would prefer a shade effect. I need UUBB just to make this into a 4/4. I appreciate that once you have 5 or more sources of the right colors this can get spicy though. Ultimately think this should be Izzet and not dimir. While both Red and Black have +X/+0 effects historically, this has the feel of an Izzet card.
Kumlekar- I don't even know how to evaluate this. Layer 6c? We can't be asking players to pull up the official detailed rules of MTG just to play a card. There is way too much text to fit on a card and referencing the fibonnaci sequence in this way would never be done. You start your post by acknowledging the card would never be printed, generally that means it is a bad fit for this kind of contest too as we're usually trying to design cards that could be printed in theory.
BlackWaltz3: Nice job preventing Guildpact Courier shenanigans. The triggered ability is worrisome, as Green - king of fighting - can make easy, repeat use of the tutor.
RaikouRider: Goblin Looter. He should be Uncommon.
Fajen Thygia: I have mixed feelings about this God. I'm not sure how to feel about the exile/draw ability, as this has started moving into Red's slice of the color pie. The return ability might get irritating when you can start swapping two copies each turn, potentially multiple times.
Subject16: Red Plant? I see the cycle you were trying to continue, but 8 power with trample on Turn 4? It's far too easy to keep your opponent at 14 or higher and swing, then boost. Or Fling after swing for the kill.
mirrodin71: Can you cast cards exiled by other player's Rectors? Is it exiled face-up or face-down? Since it's a random card from your library, why isn't this Red? White and Blue tend to target their searches.
Artorias: Solid Limited Common, would have fit in perfectly with Lorwyn Treefolk.
BlackWaltz3 - I don't think that should be reminder text, since it changes the effect of the ability (making it stronger, actually). Consider having both shivan wurm and craw wurm; with the reminder text, it costs four less; without it, two less. And artifact creatures are their own category either wording. The ability is neat but really strong, like, in-the-conversation-with-Griselbrand strong. Maybe if you couldn't trigger it with things like Last Laugh or Pandemonium....
RaikouRider - Very similar to Burning-Tree Vandal, but being able to use it turn one is massive. I think it's unbalanced, but the kind of unbalanced that might make the game more fun. It should definitely be uncommon, though.
kwanyeegor I like it. I love how the vigilance interacts with the activated abilities, and that protection on a basilisk is just evil. The flavor text might be a stretch to include on the card, though.
Algernone25 Fun. A fixed tarmogoyf for all colors. Nice use of imprint.
Hemlock I admit the doubling makes me nervous, but it's such a tightly self-controlled design... I've been sitting here for ten minutes trying to break it, and the best I can come up with is Homura's Essence. Kudos.
Kumlekar (Here....we....go.) Layer 6c could just be, "~ power doesn't change due to counters." You could possibly make this work as an ability of a set with the unnamed sequence distributed on the token inserts. Even then, I think we're still not talking black borders here, maybe not even silver ones, but a new border, made entirely of fractal images.
Algernone: Nice graveyard hate, as a creature, it is a bit cumbersome to grow but the fact that can use your graveyard too can add up to the planning a bit. Still, repeatable targeted graveyard hate is good to have.
Blackwatz: Tbis is sick and cool. Very nice Ghaltaish reduction and enrage trigger, on green, the color of fixing, this is lovely
netn10: I kind of like it but this looks so breakable I'm a bit scared. In commander this can give the chance to counter tbings around the table off a monstruous hand, as maximum hand size is often annuled in the format.
kwanyegor: Immune to bolts and deathtouch is a good combination. Thr fact that it can gain flying and vigilance is nice (Well, not vigilance, untapping has lovely extra tangents of abuse!)
Artorias: Well, this is very ellegant and fit. 3/5 are really fitting stats for a treefolk. So are the abilities. As a common, It lacks suoc value but ultimately these are the cards that feed tye game. I like that it is a card that gives you a little room for decisions.
Eventide Soujurner: Well, a mana producer with a self-untapping ability begs to be broken in half. What I do not like is that with the existance of snow lands it ramps too easily by its own. I would up the cowt by as to balance that.
Awesome entries this time, I can't really I didn't like any of them. Its hard to choose a top three but here it goes
1. Darkwaltz: Wacky 5 color bonanza, very fit for a 5/8 body
2. Artorias: Elegant, simple and solid. It suows you based your design on stats first, which is what the challenge asked.
kwanyegor: I feel a bit ofbthe same here, like your design being a bit of a puzzle put together from the stats.
Subject16 - this is a PERFECT use of 13 in the toughness slot, the callback is immediately obvious and while I don't *like* that it's mythic, the supercycle demands it and you can justify it. I would hate cracking this in packs but I love the concept.
mirrodin71 - I like the idea, but "exile a random card" doesn't make much sense. Either knowingly pick the card, or just have it exile the top card of the library face-down so it's a secret to everybody. Also it really needs to read "you may PLAY" the card, because you might have exiled a land (which can't be cast but can be played.)
Artorias - I'm getting some real Dauntless Dourbark energy from this thing, and Doran Treefolk was probably the first nearly competitive deck I ever built. That said it's much too strong for common, almost certainly needs to be uncommon and you could make a case for rare. But I do love the image.
Eventide Sojourner - while I don't think naming cards after actual things that exist is necessarily a good idea, it gets a pass for the overt reference to Diphyllodes respublica and their kin. A snow mana generator is clean and the choice of colorless works since you can possibly get more than 1 mana per turn.
netn10 - flAsh, not flEsh. also turning every card in your hand into Force Spike is just mind-bogglingly powerful. I don't think it's an effect that can get printed at any rarity for the sheer abusability of it.
kwanyeegor - This is just...broken. 5 toughness is bad enough for a deathtoucher, but it also untaps itself AND flies AND can't be burned out? The flavor makes sense but goodness is this high power, even at 5 mana. As a 2/3 I'd feel a bit better, but it's still stupid strong.

Kumlekar
Too complex, meta and strange even for silver-bordered UNsets.

netn10 - I don't know what flesh is, but it sounds terrifying ;).

1. RaikouRider

It suows you based your design on stats first, which is what the challenge asked.
kwanyegor: I feel a bit ofbthe same here, like your design being a bit of a puzzle put together from the stats.
mirrodin71 - I like the idea, but "exile a random card" doesn't make much sense.
