This month we shall wallow in the nostalgia boom of Dominaria, visiting sites, cultures and events across the plane of Magic's birth.
Challenge
Design an instant or sorcery card that is one of the colors you used for your Round 1 submission, but has a kicker cost of the other color. It should represent magic used in the culture of that creature.
Don't add any other colors - it should be a monocolored card with a kicker of the other color only.
PLEASE NOTE: This month will continue the use of the "Mandatory Top 3 Rule." For this month, you must submit a Top 3 during a round's critique period in order to receive any points for the round. Submitting critiques as well will be worth 2 bonus points in the round.
Your submissions are due Monday, April 9th, 23:59 PST.
Your judgments are due Wednesday, April 11th, 23:59 PST.
Schedule

Tolarian Druid2GU
Creature - Elf Druid Wizard {U}
Instants and sorceries you cast that target you or a permanent you control cost GU less to cast. This effect reduces only the amount of colored mana you pay. (For example, if you cast a spell with mana cost 2U, it costs 2 to cast.)

Strength of MindG
Sorcery {U}
Kicker 1U(You may pay an additional 1U as you cast this spell.)
If Strength of Mind was kicked, draw a card.
Target creature gets +X/+X were X is the number of cards you’ve drawn this turn.
Nantuko Shepherd2BG
Creature - Insect Shaman
At the beginning of your upkeep, create X 1/1 green Saproling creature tokens, where X is one plus the number of Fungus creatures you control. "With a steady hand and a lot of willpower, Sarpadian Thallids are controllable."
2/2
Krosan Strike1G
Sorcery (Uncommon)
Kicker 2B(You may pay an additional 2B as you cast this spell.)
Target creature you control fights another target creature. If Krosan Strike was kicked, the creature you control gains lifelink and deathtouch until end of turn. "In a forest full of predators, we cannot afford to become the hunted."
- Djak, Nantuko Shepherd
ChagrinB
Sorcery (R)
Kicker R(You may pay an additional R as you cast this spell.)
Target opponent reveals his or her hand. You choose an instant or sorcery card from it. That player discards that card. If Chagrin was kicked, until end of turn you may cast that card using mana as though it were mana of any color. Losing a memory isn't as bad as being abused by a memory.
Sarpadian Emissary4GW
Creature - Fungus (UC)
Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under an opponent's control, create a 1/1 green Saproling creature token. "They say they came with the wind. Strong currents must have carried their spores from the far south. They seem to be cooperative so far, but history teaches us to stay watchful (see Sarpadian Empires, Vol. III for reference)."
-Field report of Rhalar, Argivian chronicler 4/4
Fungal Flowering2G
Instant (UC)
Kicker 1W (You may pay an additional 1W as you cast this spell.)
Create two 1/1 green Saproling creature tokens. If Fungal Flowering was kicked, prevent all combat damage that would be dealt this turn by non-Fungus and non-Saproling creatures. "Their forms are beautiful, but the pace at which the colony is expanding is worrying."
-Field report of Rhalar, Argivian chronicler
Skyshroud RefugeeRG
Creature - Elf (Uncommon) 1, Sacrifice a land: If Skyshroud Refugee isn't a Warrior, put two +1/+1 counters on it and it becomes a Warrior. After Freyalise sacrificed herself to close the rift, the Skyshroud had to move. Radha adopted many of the Skyshroud refugees, intent on turning them into true Keldons.
2/2
Seek New HomeRR
Sorcery (Rare)
Kicker 1G
Search your library for up to two basic land cards and put them onto the battlefield with abandoned counters on them. Then shuffle your library. They have “Whenever this land becomes tapped, if it has an abandoned counter on it, sacrifice it.”. If Seek New Home was kicked, remove all abandoned counters from lands you control.
Shiv/Tolaria Metalworker Viashino1UR
Creature - Viashino Artificer (U)
Whenever you tap an artifact you control, you may pay 1, if you do, create a 1/1 colorless Thopter artifact creature token with flying.
2/2
Shivan’s Wit2R
Sorcery
Kicker 1U(You may pay an additional 1U as you cast this spell.)
Destroy target nonbasic land. If Shivan’s Wit was kicked, return target nonland card to its owner’s hand.

"Over time, all trips end up in the same place, at home."
Argothian Tidecrusher1UG
Creature - Octopus (u)
Trample
Prowess (Whenever you cast a noncreature spell, this creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn.)
You may cast Aura spells as thought they have flash if they target Argothian Tidecrusher.
3/3
Upstream Hurdling1U
Enchantment - Aura (c)
Kicker
Enchant creature
When Upstream Hurdling enters the battlefield, if it was kicked, enchanted creature deals damage equal to it's power to another target creature.
Enchanted creature gets +1/+1 and has flying. It's not unusual seeing these octopuses using branches to swing even farther or catching some passing bird for a quick meal
Phyrexian Rimeblighter3UB
Snow Creature - Horror (U)
When Phyrexian Rimeblighter enters the battlefield, put a -1/-1 counter on each tapped creature. Few boast the ability to infect faster when colder.
4/4
RimeplagueXU
Instant (R)
Kicker BB
Tap up to X target creatures. Then if Rimeplague was kicked, destroy up to X target tapped creatures. The ice rained and injected as needles for two days and three nights. Only when she awoke did it cease, though what was to follow would be far worse.
Torstenite OrdersBB
Instant (R)
Kicker W
Return up to two target creature cards with converted mana cost 2 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield. Then sacrifice a creature unless Torstenite Orders was kicked. Thrull fealty is a curious thing - when all individuals are expendable, they pledge to the cause alone.
mirrodin71 - A pretty generic kicker effect; I feel like we could have seen this in Apocalypse. Name has little flavor other than maybe a Shivan Harvest callback. Solid 2-for-1 though.
soramaro - In a normal context I'd have to say the colors of the mana and kicker costs are reversed here. I like "exception" Fog variants and this is a fun combat trick.
IcariiFA - I don't think this works as intended (or does it?) - if you want to be able to have it say effectively "destroy X target creatures" for XUBB you'd have to say "destroy X target creatures if they're tapped." That effect is very strong, but as-is it seems relatively fair while also being interesting. Good job.
Subject16 - Good sensible combination of effects. Seems strong in Limited. Overall I like it.
Jimmy Groove - Great stuff allowing it to turn into a Reversal of Fortune variant. Like the flavor. Overall good design.
Hemlock - Not an instant or sorcery, and bizarre flavor. Effects are rather interesting together, however.
Before star my criteria to my top is based if i play the card without knowing the previous entries
netn10: How is the card written, it does not matter if the kicker is paid or not. Tapping a land per mana does not use the stack, so you can not remove the counter with anything. Cardz5000: I love your card, balanced, simple and fresh. |Katamari|: Scract my top 3, only have sense with your previous entry but otherwise no have sense. Jimmy Groove: I do not end up liking the synergy discard and cast with such low costs. Hemlock: Balanced. Ratio cost effect is good. void_nothing: I liked, interesting drawback. "Over time, all trips end up in the same place, at home."
netn10: Neat design idea. Makes me ponder what's the most elegant way to approach it. Could probably be balanced as an uncommon. Good storytelling.
Cardz5000: This feels pretty weak. I like the narrative idea here, but I think you should have be a blue card that draws with a green kicker for the boost. It also be more fun if it was based on cards in hand instead of drawn.
|Katamari|: Feels like color hodgepodge. Discordant effects. Really pushed/lots of CA for a common. What does retaliation have to do with digging for artifacts? This is a miss for me.
mirrodin71: A decent blend of abilities that is a big tempo swing. Rarity missing, should probably be an uncommon.
soramaro:This could be mono green these days. The combination of effects is nice.
void_nothing: Very solid and powerful card. Seems fair, printable as is. Good flavor.
As it stands this can't destroy creatures that weren't tapped before you cast the spell (they aren't tapped so they aren't viable targets.) but I'm not sure if that was the intent or not Icy Blast says this it good for cost, but I think the kicker might need to cost a bit more.
Savage Punch give us some unique wording that I think can be used here to clarify what order things happen in. Some cool stuff happening here.
This card seem SUPER fun and innovative, love what you're doing here.
Sadly doesn't meet the challange, but super... interesting... flavor...? Probably balanced...
Whoa... Flavor and power of this card are both perfect! I love it.
Seems clunky... probably best to not shoehorn land ramp into red.
Mirrodin71: Neat 2 for 1, reminds me of Churning Eddy but more dramatic and versatile, so I take this as an uncommon. I think "permanent" is the word that should be instead of "card". I would have liked it if it were more "in touch" with your first submission.
Icari: pretty mean and I guess a little too powerful for the cost at instant speed as you could sink your mana into an absolute mayhem. I like that you don't actually have to destroy the same creatures you tapped and I also like how it ties with your previous entry.
Soramaro: Nice combination of two effects that tie very well with your first submission. You could have probably gotten away with winnowing one mana off from somewhere, but I think it's quite fair and lovely in limited.
Katamari: while it ties well with your first submission, I don't think you quite nailed it with this one. Digging for an artifact is very strange for an effect associated with a green cost and I really think this one should have been the other way around regarding colors, as green quite does hexproof too.
Subject16: Nice combination of fighting and basillisk collar for a turn. I think the kicker is safely costed here as proper destruction plus lifegain can be very dramatic, specially since the creaturw can survive and attack for extra lifw. Good work.
JimmyGroove: Really nailed it here. A nice one mana discard effect that can end up giving you the cance of xasting a spell is more than welcome. Red and Black jave both their share of card stealing with stuff like GOnti or the zealots, and this looks like something that's very fun to play wothout being a garanteed hit at tje samw time.
mirrodin71
Should say "permanent" in the second sentence, not "card". Aside from that small wording mistake, I think it's a nice, elegant card mechanics-wise. I especially like the mirrored effect (land - nonland). On the flavor side, while the card's name reflects the kicker effect quite well, it doesn't really resonate with the main effect imo.
Katamari
Getting +0/+3 and hexproof and "tutoring" for an artifact are both rather passive effects, so I don't really see how this card represents any kind of retaliation. The green in the kicker cost seems off, too. This doesn't just feel like it could've been mono-U without any problems, it feels like it should be mono-U.
Cardz5000
I like how both effects synergize with another. This card seems pretty underpowered though, even at common. It will likely only grant +1/+1 (unkicked) or +2/+2 (kicked) in most cases. Could have been an instant to at least allow for some flexibility or an uncommon with a more complex effect (for example, CMC2 providing a base boost of +2/+2 and then an additional +1/+1 for every card drawn).
netn10
Using lands for "ritual"-style one-shot mana production feels pretty on-color, but it's weird seeing basing land tutoring for RR. I think if Wizards did a card with a similar effect, they would do it as an enchantment and as a RG-multicolor one at that, probably. While the flavor is nice, I think this card tries to bend the mechanics a bit to hard to tell its story.
void_nothing
Returning small creatures from the grave has been a big part of white's reanimation suite in the last few years, so while it still works in black (Unearth), requiring heavy black for the first effect feels a bit off. Aside from that, it's a nice and powerful card. Something tells me Wizards would probably print it as a sorcery at that cost and add 1 or 2 to the kicker effect as an extra cost for instant speed.
Hemlock
I love the weird flavor of this card. It reminds me of the squid monkeys in the "The Future is Wild" book/TV show from forever ago. The combination of essentially a removal effect and evasion/pump makes this a very powerful common, I think it would be picked pretty highly in Limited. This card feels like it should cost 1 more for the kicker or U for the base effect with a 2G kicker.
