Signups are still open! If you want to sign up for The Kngs of Oza, please do so here. Please used the system used by Rithaniel in the first post. In addition, for the purposes of this game, please keep to a monocolored character, and note that you are signing up for The Kings of Oza.
Or, If you don't want to do that, use this format in this thread or as a PM to me.
Character Name:
Race (Please stick to one already featured in the thread):
Class (eg. warrior, shaman, etc.):
Color (Monocolored only):
Zone most utilized:
Description of character:
1. Do not make new NPC's, unless your character specifically summons them. Assuming the speech of preexisting NPC's is fine.
2. I will judge on 20-point scale. 10 points for flavor and relevance, and 10 for design, power level, balance, etc. You will get xp equal to your score on a resolved card.
2.5. In order for a spell to resolve, it must have a score higher than the challenge rating.
3. You will be able to avoid or conquer encounters simply through dialogue. However, you will not gain xp for doing so. I do encourage players to use both card creation and dialogue, and may reward players for using both options frequently. I will also slightly punish players for heavily favoring one option over the other.
4. There are levels, and they do have xp requirements, but I'm too lazy to find them right now.
5. Mana pools are consistent, and hand size is not. If you are not in an encounter, you have a "unlimited" hand size.
6.MAKE SURE TO INCLUDE CHARACTER STATS SOMEWHERE IN EACH POST.
7. In order to beat an encounter, you must finish the goal with 1 or more life and with your legendary creature alive.
8. Please post once every two weeks at least, or notify me if you are unable to do so. Otherwise, I will remove you from the game. You may still sign up afterward, but your progress will be restarted, and you can only sign up for this game 3 times.
9. Making multiple spells in a single encounter is possible and sometimes necessary, but you will be slightly penalized when gaining xp for spells beyond the first in an encounter. See #53 for details.

You know today is your last day. You had refused to fight, refused to go to war. You wanted to be strictly a healer, not a fighter. Today you pay for it. You go to the balcony of the city, ready. "You're built for fighting, Johari! How can you deny that honor?" the general asked. "Why is it that the best soldiers out there decide to do nothing for Kozal? You will fight, son. You will fight. And if you don't, you will fight me!" The room around you is cold, and the realm outside is blistering. The general throws you a sword. "Get out there and fight, soldier. I don't want to have to force you, but wars must be fought, and we need everyone to fight. You can be a war cleric, but you can't just run from the fight! So, will you fight the goblins to the East, or die by my sword?"

Jamble summons a runic shield around himself against these so-called righteous recruiters. Jamble's own true righteousness lends him an even greater power, and he uses this new inner strength to make a dash past the guards and their captain - all unable to lay a finger on him through his handy clerical shield - and dashes out of the city.

Then again, Johari should have expected as much. He should've guessed that he would be pursued here, one way or another. They all lived in isolation, but that didn't mean that their location was secret; therefore, he should have known that somebody would come knocking at the door, contesting his desertion. But to have a general be sent after him...
With a sigh, Johari stared at the sword that laid on the ground. He did not have the time to meditate upon the matter, but saw two paths open before him.
There was the Path of War, and he had already tasted that it was far too bloody for him. It was the Path that would lead him back to where he started; to a War that he knew he did not have the heart to fight. It was not that he cared nothing for the world - the matter was not that simple. Instead, it was that he believed in a path towards a calmer future that did not involve a sword; he believed the path that had been set by Fate before him did not involve a weapon. Was this so hard to grasp for them? Furthermore, he would have to leave everything he had built so far, his entire training, and the trust of the Monks behind.
The second Path was the Path of Defiance. That one was much harder to follow, or so he believed. For one, he would have to actually defeat the general, but that was not all; if he were to use violence in the monastery, then he would betray the principle of peace that he had chosen to follow so far. What consequences would this have for his life here? Would he be kicked out, forced to follow yet another path? Would he be scorned, or would they know that he had no choice?
Two paths; two difficulties. No time to meditate upon the matter. Then, as his Master said, he would rely on his instincts.
The former soldier looked up at the general, a weary look on his face. The Rhox monk raised his foot, put it on the handle of the sword, and gently brushed it aside.
"The world is wounded, this much I know," he answered calmly. "But my path towards healing it does not involve flying the banner of the army, General. I will not violate the sancticity of this place by raising this sword against you, nor shall I betray my own principles in order to join the war once more. Will you please not reconsider the Path you have chosen?"
He crossed his arms behind his back and sighed lowly. A conundrum indeed, but...
Kylie raises her left hand to the sky, a fist pulsing with white mana, and calls upon the spell.
It isn't supposed to be hard. Ever since her induction into this army, the flow of white mana has been easy to control, as quick and precise as a soldier's instincts, whenever she calls upon it to smite the enemies of her king. But now it crackles and stutters in her hand, as she tries to form a shield, a ward, a--
Nothing.
Two blazing fireballs crash down, two dying screams she hears. A bad way to go -- she'd know. A curse erupts from her lips.
"Soldiers, to me!" Kylie shouts as the remaining members of her squad fall into line in a defensive position. "On my mark, we strike as one." Already white mana is dancing along the finely polished edges of her weapon. She looks the boar square in the eyes, imagines the sight of it roasting on a spit. "And stay away from the pig. He's mine."
Dual Flare resolves, destroying two Soldiers.
Kylie passes and awaits the opponent's attack.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO INCLUDE YOUR CURRENT CHARACTER (AND NOW, YOUR XP AND INVENTORY) AT THE END OF EACH OF YOUR POSTS. IF ANYTHING CHANGES, I WILL UPDATE YOUR STATS, BUT YOU MUST KEEP TRACK OF YOUR CHARACTER'S STATS AT THE MOMENT. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN VERY BAD THINGS.
There will be encounters in which I simply tell you to create a card that has a certain idea, resembles something, is built around something, etc. These are called CCE's or Custom Card Encounters. They have the following in common with normal encounters:
A. They still have a challenge rating and reward xp.
B. They are still indeed encounters.
C. They still empty mana from your mana pool.
D. They are still judged on the same criteria.
However, they are different in these ways.
A. The spell "not resolving" doesn't just it won't do anything, it will punish you in some ways.
B. It doesn't contain a board state.
I forgot to add a challenge rating because I'm an idiot. It's 14.
Kinetic Trap
Flavor/Relevance: This doesn't really go with the idea of conventional "traps". Also, why does it only deal damage to attackers, why not everyone acting at the situation? From a flavor perspective, you have a good general idea for flavor, but it has a few holes. 6.5/10
Design: I like this style of effect from red (mass damage), but what bugs me is that it's one-sided. This is a one-sided wrath against most token decks, and at R, at that. This card is too swingy. This is too often a one mana Aggravate, or at least an under-preforming one, which is waaay to powerful. 6/10
Kinetic Trap doesn't resolve, but the trigger from vernum does. the leader has 1 damage marked on it, and you are being attacked for 5.
Mana Pool: 3RR
Hand Size: 5
Idiot me didn't put a challenge score. It's 14.
Attuned Rune
Flavor: Not flavorfully relevant to the situation, but the flavor here makes sense and is fine. 8/10
Design: This sometimes will be just as powerful as Feat of Resistance, but often won't. That's fine. This card is powerful enough, and adds something new to the protection-giving style of cards. 8/10
16/20 - Success!
You now have 16xp. Please include your xp in later posts along with other stats.
"Deserter!" the general shouts, "You will rue the day you defied the great Honor! You are no longer welcome in Kozal! Leve us now and never come back! If I see you again, you won't survive!"
You no longer have a home for yourself. You can go to the South, for Vaerlov (aligned with black), to the East (Nalam, with red) or South East (Sunalie, Blue)
The general sighed. "I don't want to do this, but I have to." He slams on the wall, and quickly, two armed guards enter the room. "If you comply, we have an undead invasion to the south we need to get to. Remember, you're doing this for your home, for this monastery, and, more importantly, for Honor. I wouldn't be about war all the time if I weren't under Honor's reign. But I can't change the fact that I am, and neither can you. I have to go back to Talar, your home's capital, in a month. I need to have your service, or your head before Honor. I'd love to reconsider my path, but that is out of the question. You're coming with us, or blood will be shed in this room.
GOAL: Make a card showing your compliance or defiance to Honor and his army. (CCE)
Challenge Score: 13
"Yes, ma'am!" Your comrades say in unison. The boar charges after you, and the goblins on each side. Your comrades come up to your side, ready to fight the goblins.

Sky's Fire3RR
Creature - Dragon (R)

6/6
Add 4 copies of Aven Sentinel to your battlefield. Add 1 copy of Sky's Fire to the opponent's battlefield.
Coarse Boar and all of the goblins are attacking. Sky's Fire has 3 activations of its second ability on the stack, targeting you and each of the soldiers.
Challenge score remains the same.

Yet more soldiers had burst through the door... the situation had gone from bad to worse very fast.
Although Johari had become a monk, some instincts and reflexes from his past remained there. More specifically, his eyes drifted from soldier to soldier. The General, obviously, was the most threatening of them all; as for the two soldiers, they were blocking his exit towards the door, which was one way he could've avoided direct conflict. Therefore, for the time being, there was no real escape.
The Rhox felt his temper flare up, but calmed himself down. Why was it so hard for them to understand? It wasn't about Honor, and it wasn't about the war! It wasn't about any of these things! It wasn't even about him, really. The perspective of another exile loomed, and Johari wondered if taking the other Path would be easier for him. It would most likely be... but then, why should he? No - he believed in his path, in the good that he could create in the world without joining the war.
One way or another, he would make them see.
"You do not understand," Johari calmly stated. "No blood shall be shed, and my head will not be taken. If I cannot stop you, General, then go ahead and attack. But I believe in my Path more than I believe in the Path that Honor would set before me."
Focusing on inner peace as much as he could, Johari crossed his arms and waited for the immediate fallout.

You walk for days, forgetting your hunger, and your thirst. You were unprepared for this trip. However, as the moon overlooks you, you see the shadow of another behemoth, with another city on top of it. Word spreads quickly across the land, and you are not welcome there. But, it's just water, right? As you approach the city, you see lines of guards along the walls. It would be hard, no, impossible, to enter the city, let alone escape it. But your thirst is real, and you don't think you'll survive another day without water. You've had time to meditate.
Mana Pool: 3WWW
I was an idiot, Challenge Score is 13.
Tempest Flourish
Flavor: This doesn't seem like a Tempest... or a flourish. It seems more like a small wave going wide. Blue also does a lot less "just straight tapping" now and more tapping down with other things. Straight tapping is more of white's thing now. 4/10
Design: This is generally a boring uncommon. It's balanced, but boring as the underworld. 6/10
It does not resolve, but it was cast, and did target, so the illusions go away. With your power you've been learning for years, you summon a sea-serpent to fight with.

Flavor: A serpent seems like a good idea to be phantasmal, so that's nice. Also, I like the islandhome, or whatever it's called. 8/10
Design: Well balanced, well costed, well made, good job. 7.5/10

Flavor: I really like the flavor, but I feel you could cut a word. 7/10

12/20 (Fail)
As you make your stand, you hear rushing through the halls of the sanctum. Suddenly, a messenger appeared. "Sir! A message from the monastery, and one from Honor's messenger. The monastery has said that they wish for no violence here. Also, Honor has requested you come to Talar immediately. And , bring the rebel, too." With this, you are put in chains and locked up in the caravan, on the way to Talar.
But on the way, something happens...
A flash of light, and the next thing you know, you are on the ground, unshackled. You hear the general screaming in pain. "You have to fight, soldier! For the sake of all of us, you have to fight! I don't care about your past or your path, but you have to fight! For the fallen!" As he says this, a soldier stumbles out of the rubble, only to be destroyed by another flare. "Your past is behind you. This is a new beginning for you, so go out there and fight!" You quickly see a flare on the horizon.

Too bad Test of Faith is a card that exists, it would've been great right about now.
Captured... and so easily, as well. What had he expected, really? Perhaps he had thought that he could avoid his fate forever? Or perhaps he was simply giving up too easily? In any case, upon being roughhoused by the soldiers, Johari opposed no resistance; they were stronger than him, and he would not raise his hand against them, anyway.
During the voyage towards...what, exactly? The Rhox didn't know, although he expected to see Honor soon. In any case, during the journey towards his unknown fate, Johari finally had some time to meditate for himself. What the future held for him, he did not know; what the past was, he was being forced towards it, unable to ignore it or deny it any longer; and his present was darkness and uncertainty. These were dark times for the monk, who was quite unsure on his next course of action. Could he truly not run away from this duty, did he have no choice but to use his body as a weapon?
His meditation, however, was soon interrupted. It all happened so fast that the Rhox barely had the time to understand what was happening. His hands and feet were free, he saw that much; the general was shouting orders at him once again; and, when he turned around, he saw the devastation caused by the cannon, and... on the horizon, he saw his death coming at him.
To block, and to fight. To run away, and to live his own life. Fight, or flight. The past, or the future.
The people that had died around him. The destruction caused by the cannon itself. To run away from it...or...
He had no choice.
Gritting his teeth, the Monk raised his hand. When the Flare fired, ravaging everything in its path, the former soldier had already erected his defenses like the Monks had taught him to. The Flare exploded against his shield, making the earth rumble and his ears ring; but when the dust settled, the Rhox was unharmed, even though his expression showed great pain.
He had to fight. He couldn't let the ones that had died be in vain. He was not selfish enough for that, and he knew it within his heart that he could never forgive himself if he ran from this enemy. And so, with regret and sorrow invading his soul, the Monk ran towards the cannon in the horizon, ready to jump into the fray...

New Beginnings
"Put the past behind you. You are a new person! This is a new beginning!"
Also, please look at other's spoilers if you want background, flavor, and important info in some situations.
Flavor: I like the idea, that it's easier to punish arrogance if it's the biggest offender. The flavor makes sense, and you added on to it. 9/10
Design: Simply put, this is fine for common. A 5-mana Smite the Monstrous is still not the worst, and it can get much better. It also rewards you for getting the biggest thing on the board, and not a utility creature, which raises good questions. 7/10

You fell the dragon, saved the aven, and led your men to victory. You head with the remaining crew back to the city, where you will be praised. You are called "Honor's Pride" and are revered throughout the city. A message from your king, Honor, comes, requesting you to come on the next caravan to Talar, the capital. A slow caravan comes along with a Rhox monk and an injured general. They request that they get a faster, more reliable mode of transportation to Talar. You are eager to help them get better transportation, and also note that you need to be on that way as well. With that, you three are off to Talar. "Sorry that I didn't introduce myself earlier," the general says on the way, "I am Kora, one of Honor's 3 generals."

You form a shield around yourself as the flare rises. The shield shatters as the flare hits, but by then, you are already moving toward the cannon, ready to strike the goblin operating it. You take out the goblin, and feel rejuvenated by the thrill of saving others. The feeling makes you realize that what you re fighting for is safety. That others are safe because of you, that you are strong because of their welfare. The injured general comes up to you, rewarding you for saving his life, and avenging the fallen today. You start on a journey to the nearest town, so that you may get transportation to Talar. They can only offer a simple caravan, not one fast enough to reach Talar anytime soon. You head for another town, hoping for faster travel. You are greeted there by a soldier, who offers to help in exchange for a trip to Talar. Your new caravan moves much faster, and the soldier introduces herself. "I'm Kylie."
"What is your story, Kylie?" the general inquires.
"Well, I came to Kozal for a new life, where I became a soldier for Honor. I slayed a dragon, and doing so got me a request to come to the capital. And you?" The dragon-slayer replies.
"Sorry that I didn't introduce myself earlier. I am Kora, one of Honor's 3 generals. It's going to be a long journey, so you two best do some talking." The general states.
You now have 15/20xp

There were many places to go in Sunalie. Will you go to the border, where the water meets with other nations? Would you go to the south, to Torpal, the Shimmering City? Or will you go to Karas, a humble town that acts as a gateway to the sea in the East?
(Torpal is the largest (and only) city for humans specifically. It prides itself on the magic that raises the water to be the foundation for the city. The city, and most everything in it, is made of pure, Sunalian water.)
(Karas is one of the few islands large enough in Sunalie to hold civilization. That said, it is still a small town with one great reason to go there: it holds the only way for humans to safely enter underwater civilization through a kind of water subway.)
No stat changes.
Electrocharge
Flavor: It makes sense, but it's nothing special. 6/10
Design: This card makes sense, is cool, rewards 2 for 1's, and is well costed. However, it has some wording issues, especially clarifying where the second damage comes from., but I can overlook it. 8/10

You killed the band of goblins. You are mostly shunned for killing you, a human, killing other Nalami, but you are still noted as a powerful spellmaster, and are appointed the job of "lightning-caller" Your job in battle is to summon lightning, and not kill goblins or dragons.
Then the call came.
You are sent to the border of Sunalie, to fight off some "weird things" as the goblins call it. You see the "things". They're illusions. Elementals, created by flimsy water, but in such a fashion to show a massive form and large power. You are in awe by this. A mage behind the illusions summons a stormy cloud to overtake your brethren, leaving all but you shrouded. A show of immeasurable skill by the wizard culminates in chains of water, this time solid as rock, enveloping your hands, then your feet.
Do you resist the chains, and the mage,
Or do you join the wizard in his path of battle?
On the way to the border, you think about things. You gain 1R
You have 14/20xp.

Effort's Endurance
Flavor: I see what you're trying to do here in flavor, but it doesn't really work. I see the idea, but I don't like the execution. 5.5/10
Design: 1 mana for regeneration is either way too good, or completely useless. I like how this can (prertty much) only be used if attacking, but that just makes it more sub-par. 5/10
10.5/20 This may not have been a challenge, but if it was, it'd be a fail. I won't count this against you though, since it's spontaneous.
As you walk past the city, you realize that Sunalie is still miles and miles away, and that you need some sort of water before the sun goes down. You see the mouth of the beast carrying the city, and get an idea.

Johari did not know how he felt about what he had done.
On the one hand, he had broken his vows. Everything that he had worked for, everything that he had trained for - vanished in a mere instant. On the other hand, however, he had saved the General from certain doom and, by extension, probably saved a lot of other people who may have been killed by the cannon. So where did that leave him? He was headed back towards Honor by now, but he was still a rebel, despite his actions. What would happen to him then? Had he even made the right decision? Would he be forced to fight, and to kill once again?
The next few days were a blur, as the Rhox's mind was pretty much entirely occupied by these thoughts. His own mind was running in circles, and he did not know what to do. He awoke from this blur when the woman named Kylie introduced herself to them. Her credentials were certainly impressive, but the Rhox figured that her presence would be a welcome distraction from his own thoughts. Mustering a slight smile, the Rhox put his two palms together and bowed before her.
"My name is Johari," he said, as warmly as he could manage. "It is an honor to meet a hero such as yourself."
Then, he turned towards the General with a worried look on his face.
"General Kora, despite everything that has happened, would you not let me take a look at your wounds?"
Kora may have been the one behind his current predicament, but he hated to see anyone in pain - his own feelings towards the person hardly mattered. Why hate, when compassion was so much easier?

Honor's Pride. It feels strange to wear the name, but also good. Just introducing herself to the caravan master produces a noticeable change in his eagerness to procure faster transportation for herself and the general. She seats herself in the same carriage as the Rhox, stretching out her limbs from the exertion of battle.
"General, what news from the capital?" she asks Kora.
The Rhox introduces himself with a bow. Kylie nods in return. "Good to meet you. I admit, I have not encountered many such as yourself, though I have heard tales of your strength in battle. Our victory was not without cost... having a cleric at our side would have saved many lives."
The reputation of his race preceded him everywhere he went, so the Rhox did not bother to argue against it. Why go against the flow of the eternal river? Instead, his expression became grim as the loss of life was mentionned. Against, the mental debate he had been having with himself reared its ugly head, but he contained it for now.
"It seems that people with my skills are becoming more and more required in this world," Johari said, an unhidden tinge of regret and sorrow in his tone. "I wish that it weren't so, but..."
He stopped that line of thought at that. No - it would not do for the conversation to go in that direction. At least not yet. A warm smile returned to his face, and politely bowed his head before the mighty dragonslayer.
"My apologies - such grim subjets shouldn't be talked about so casually," the monk relented. "I did not mean to sour the mood. Surely, you need rest as well after your adventure! If you have acquired any wounds there, I will happily treat them to the best of my ability."

"Thank you for the offer, but I am unharmed," Kylie says quickly. "You should see to the general. I don't know what happened, but I'd bet it was one of those damnable flare parties." They're getting bolder, if they'd attack a high-ranking officer that way, she thinks.
To calm herself during the monotony of travel, she takes to lightly running her fingers along the flat of her weapon. Now a dragonslayer. When she was a child, they always seemed so majestic, so untouchable. But they could be killed just like any other beast.
It's hard for her to think of a way to lighten the mood. The memory of fresh blood still lingers in her mind. She peers outside, wondering if there's anything there beyond miles and miles of desert. "Where are you from?" she idly asks the rhox. "The east -- eastern Kozal, that is -- is all I know."
Johari in response, and simply turned back to the general, trying to convince him to let the Rhox treat him. As she asked for his origins, however, the monk chuckled lightly.
"It was a goblin with a flare cannon, yes. However, I'm afraid I'll have to disappoint you, Dragonslayer," the beastman began. "Although some believe that my race originally came from Halanar, I am a full-blooded native of Kozal. Although..."
Johari stopped right there. Would it do him any good to reveal what he had been up to to her? He was still being brought back to Honor, after all - if General Kora didn't have the authority to exert punishment upon him, then surely the Dragonslayer was not, either? However, the Rhox quickly judged that the risk was not exactly worth it. She was capable of slaying a dragon and coming out alive; in that case, even if the monk had WANTED to defend himself against her, he was very unlikely to do better.
So, therefore, he did what a monk did best: speak in riddles.
"...Although I suppose I will have to earn the right to call myself from Kozal once again," he continued, a faint smile on his face. "Much to my chagrin, I may be the source of more bloodshed soon."

Vernum watched the mage crush the ranks before him with illusions - illusions! That took finesse, and a particular confidence. He took a moment to appreciate the handiwork on display. This is what he lived for, why he let the damned goblins assert misguided authority in his presence. The clash with other professionals, with exotic style and taste. The illusionist swept a cold, wet cloud across the ranks, and Vernum closed his eyes. He felt the telltale current of the aether swirl around him. He reached out with mana and touched the crystalline patterns forming around him, sending them into just the right kind of chaos, flinging them away. Now, he thought, let's begin.

2.5. In order for a spell to resolve, it must have a score higher than the challenge rating.

Your crew handily take care of the boar and the goblins surrounding you. But now, there was a dragon. The dragon launches a fireball, killing 3 of the aven. Now 1 aven stands to fight.

Electrocharge
Flavor: It makes sense, but it's nothing special. 6/10

GOAL: Make a card showing which path you choose. (CCE)
Challenge rating: 10

Rules Advisor before they were eradicated

He stopped that line of thought at that. No - it would not do for the conversation to go in that direction. At least not yet. A warm smile returned to his face, and politely bowed his head before the mighty dragonslayer.
"My apologies - such grim subjets shouldn't be talked about so casually," the monk relented. "I did not mean to sour the mood. Surely, you need rest as well after your adventure! If you have acquired any wounds there, I will happily treat them to the best of my ability."
