Flavor Text Dixit
A game of semi-appropriate flavor text.
Rules:
Post if you are playing (or dropping.) I'm aiming for 4-6 players.
Design 4 varied cards (that can't be traced to you!). Private Message (PM) them to me when you are ready (hopefully within a day.)
Before Round 1:
- When I have each player's cards (sent via PM), I'll choose a random player to be Bard for Round 1, and prompt him to post a flavor text to start Round 1.
Playing a Round:
- First, the Round's Bard must post a flavor text.
- Each player, including the Bard, must secretly select one of their 4 cards, trying to fit the given flavor text, sending that choice via PM to me. At this point, in order to fit the flavor text, players may change their chosen card's Name and creature types (also in rules text.)
- Once I've received all the PMs, I'll post the list of cards (1 of each player) which I'll have corrected to have a standard format (so there are no tells.) Look at them, AND ONLY IN YOUR HEAD, try to guess which is the one from the Bard.
- PM me your guess, and your replacement card for next round. (Obviously, the Bard doesn't need to guess, but he or she must provide a replacement card.)
- Once I've received all the guesses, I'll post them. You'll get points depending on how your guess and your card did (see next-)
Scoring:
Non-Bard players:
- If everyone guessed the Bard's card, or none of you did, you gain 2 points.
- Otherwise, you gain 3 points if you guessed the Bard's card.
- As an extra, you always get 1 point for each player that was fooled into thinking your card was the Bard's.
Bard player:
- If all players guessed your card, or none did, you get 0 points.
- Otherwise you get 3 points.
- Hint: don't make your flavor perfectly connected, or totally disconnected, to your card.
Following rounds:
The Bard role passes to the next player. Once 10 rounds have gone by, or a player drops, I'll announce the score. Then a new game may start.
Ok, we are ready to start, but I'll wait until 24 hours have passed from Nakhla's post to see if he PMs me his cards (or if we get another player, I'll give him extra time for his cards.)
Anyways, for first time Dixit players, here is an example of first round:
- I roll a die to pick the Bard order. Let's say Jimmy is first.
- Jimmy must give us a flavor text. He looks at his cards (I haven't seen them yet), secretly chooses one to play, and gives us: "The darkness calls upon you."
- All players must give me a card to fit the flavor "The darkness calls upon you." (or to fail at it, lol.) This is why it's good to have varied cards. Players choose one of their four, and PM it to me (with possible changes in Name and Creature types only.)
- I post a list with the card chosen by each player.
- You must guess Jimmy's card (another secret PM to me, including your replacement card for next round.) In order for Jimmy to win, someone, but not everyone!, must guess correctly. This means "The darkness calls upon you." should be a reasonable, but not perfect fit for his card. He'll hope a better fit exists within your cards (because a player won't vote for his own card.)
- I post the results, and prompt the next Bard.
Rudyard is our first Bard. Please post a flavor text, and send me the card of yours that will use that flavor text. As final reminder, you don't want it to fit perfectly, you're hoping it will also fit some of your fellows cards the same way.
Ok, I'm retyping every card (adding stuff I think may be missing!), and using random.org to suffle them around. So paranoid, I know.

Next step: PM me your guess for Rudyard's card, plus a replacement card for next round. According to Random.org, Jimmy is our next Bard, so get thinking about a flavor text! but I'm forbidding the use of the newest (replacement) card for the Bard, because each card needs to be designed with an eye to regular play as well.
Jimmy Groove votes: A
The Angel Of Elysium votes: D
Am Shegar votes: A
Nakhla votes: A
Jimmy, Am and Nakhla, who guessed correctly! Each gets 3 points.
Because Rudyard's flavor was shaky enough, he gets 3 points too. (If everyone, or none, had guessed, Rudyard would have gotten 0.)
Finally, Nakhla's deft change of name from 'Knight of Tides' to 'Knight of Moonlight' (somehow more skyheight?) made Angel lose out on points, while netting himself an extra 1 point!
(now it's ok to discuss tells or doubts concerning this round)
Our next Bard, Jimmy Groove, already sent me his flavor text, but there is still a player who hasn't sent me his replacement card. I'll give him 12 hours, but then he'll just be forced to pick from his current 3.

Rudyard votes: B, Wild Fury
Jimmy Grove votes: C, Fury's Feast
The Angel Of Elysium votes: D, Ouroboa
Nakhla votes: D, Ouroboa
Everyone! ...except Am Shegar, because his card was E, Solstice.
Rudyard, Jimmy, Angel and Nakhla get 2 points.
Both Nakhla and Jimmy went with Fury as a self-devouring beast, and got 1 point as a result. (Nakhla switched "Fury's Pulse" to "Fury's Feast", and Jimmy switched "State of Rage" to "Wild Fury.")
Finally, Rudyard's expert renaming of his nameless creature got him 2 extra points.
Our Bard for round 4 is Nakhla (and for round 5, Angel of Elysium.) I admit keeping track of everyone's card number is getting unwieldy, so everyone please try to replace cards as you play them, otherwise you'll be forced to pick from 3 (or less!) obviously you can't play a card right as you submit it.
