Talk about the goings on in the New Challenge Everyday contest here, as well ways the game can be improved.
Eventually i'll also use this post for record keeping.
Entry Rules
Anyone can enter at any time.
To enter:
1. Post a card that fits the current challenge.
2. Include a challenge in your post. If you win the day, your challenge will be the next day's challenge.
In the case of a tie, we use the challenge of the tied player with the highest current score for the month. If there tie for highest score, we use the challenge of the tied player who posted first.
3. Vote.
Voting Rules
Anyone can vote.
You must vote for exactlytwo cards from the previous challenge posted by others. Do not vote for your own card. Misvotes will be discounted.
If you accidently misvote, you can post corrections in the day's thread.
Winning
Votes you receive are points for the month. Whoever has the most points at the end of the month wins that month. Tie games may occur.
So Jimmy Groove failed to include a challenge in his entry, and i didn't notice until today's thread was posted.
If he PMs me a challenge or posts one here before tomorrow we can use that. Otherwise, if he wins without a challenge we'll use the challenge of the next most voted upon entry. Either way he can keep any points he gets today.
In the future entries without challenges included will be ignored and if i fail do so again there may be a different system for dealing with it.
As of now I don't think there is anything I would change. I know the DCC does the "extra point" for the winner of a day so that might be something to consider, though I have always not been a fan of the extra point.
-------------
Figured I would also post critiques for cards today.
Raziel: Card is fine, I would have appreciated some flavor
Clearwater: Another fine card but it's missing a rarity and it does't feel all that exciting until you cast it for like X=4 and even then its just a big fatty.
SNL: Very cool card but the initial casting cost could probably be up'd be 1. Armada Wurm costs 6, can't be cast for cheaper, is much more color intensive, and can only give you 1 extra token (though it always gives you the token). Still, loved the card.
GameWorldLeader: Card is crazy pushed. Even by sacrificing a creature this card feels overpowered. Also, missing rarity.
void_nothing: Another fine card, just wasn't exciting enough for me.
gufestus: Card is way too broken in eternal formats. I would gladly pay 10 life to win the game on Turn 1.
Suggestion: Could you add the Cardnames to the player names in the polls rather than funny comments (starting next poll)? It would aid the voting process since you actually vote for cards rather than players and might hence not take note of which player your favorite design belongs to.
good idea. i don't think i was going to include funny comments every time since it takes longer, and including card names is going to take longer too, but i'll give it a try until the end of this month
Hey Rudyard, how will entries that don't meet the challenge be handled? There's two today and I hope they get a chance to revise their cards before tomorrow's poll.
yeah, i did notice there are a couple entries that don't quite meet the challenge
those entries will still be included in tomorrow's poll, since it isn't up to me to judge whether or not a subjective creation meets a subjective criterion
my suggestion to voters is not to vote for entries you feel don't fulfill the challenge
there are also a few entries that didn't include new challenges- those entries will not appear in tomorow's poll unless they're updated before then
Was there something wrong with my entry for the Phyrexian mana challenge? I should properly have broken the tie and won the day, plus gotten five points for it.
So when the 3 illegal entries were removed because they didn't include a challenge did you also remove their votes? Because I had 1 point before the 26th and then with the 26th I got 4 votes but on the month tally I have 4 total where I should have 5.

Reviews for Concentric Planes round. I'm not that good at designing or judging, so bear with me.
Ripple Mage - Feels broken. In a normal 60-card deck, its almost guaranteed to turn a trap card into a game-winning nuke. The thing I do like about it is that it makes you want to use heavier-costing mana to really use its ability (Demolish over Stone Rain). 4/10
Phyrexian Nesting Doll - Ability is great and fun. I like "rule of three" cards for some reason. 8/10
Travel the Void - Casting cost is a mess. Doubt you'd ever see phyrexian mana and hybrid mana in the same card, or even set (but I could be wrong since hybrid mana is pretty general), but to top it off, you also have "splice into arcane" on it. Maybe I'm underestimating how much 4 life matters, but I'd definitely pay that much to exile three creatures. 2/10
Endless Meadows - I like the idea of an illusion tribal spell, but I don't see it being anything like this card. I suppose the type of set determines it. 5/10
Konda's Emissary - Unsure of how this fits the challenge. But I myself was pretty confused by the challenge at first. I do like this card though, and bestow feels like it could reappear in a Kamigawa set. 6/10
Over the Edge - Unsure of how this would be useful. I'm honestly not that great at approximating how something good is, but this feels like a Journey Into Nowhere at instant speed and without the ability to destroy the enchantment combined with Mind Control. 4/10
Ralik, Skyborn - Kinda uninteresting. I don't really like that it gives all creatures flying. It could work for defensive purposes. I'm not seeing how the flavor connects with indestructible lands though. 3/10
Abovebelow Flats - I like it. Hopefully its not too overpowered. 7/10
Shadowphage Gemini - Kinda confusing to read and I think there should be more a reason why its an Enchantment Creature. 2/10
Refract - Originally thought it was pretty useless, but I can see why someone would want to turn their basic lands into nonbasic or legendary ones using this. 6/10
@worldgameleader: added your missing point. no, i haven't purposely subtracted any votes, sorry for the oversight
---
koopa and rinne did not include challenges, but their entries are included anyway, they still have time to declare challenges. if either wins before declaring their challenge, we'll use the second place challenge.
i'd like some input over potential changes to the challenge system...
point penalty option: an entry posted without a challenge could be included, but might result in at least -1 to the contestant's score.
point bonus option: perhaps no penalty for not including a challenge, but a +1 point bonus for remembering
challenge bank: most players have been posting challenges everyday, but only one challenge gets used everyday and the rest have been ignored. this seems somewhat wasteful. i could record each player's past posted challenges and if a player forgot to post a challenge i would use the last recorded challenge. players could also add additional challenges to their challenge bank ahead of time.
challenge poll: there could be a second, separate poll each day to vote on all suggested challenges posted the previous day. perhaps votes here could also add to a player's points.
challenge poll, top 3 variant: separate poll for challenges, but only includes the challenges of the three players with the most votes from the day before. or top two instead?
Personally I like how it is. It shouldn't really be difficult to include a challenge, and if you forget a lot you should really just have a challenge in your sig. [also: most of those other options make lots and lots of extra work for you.] Problem solver'ed?
Also I pre-designed a card for the "Worst. Card. Design. Ever." challenge but that didn't win, so here it is -
Jace With Cool GunsBBUB
Legendary Planeswalker - Jace with cool guns
/+1 \ Jace shoots creature. he does a flip while doing it and the bad guy dies!
/+4 \ jace shoots lots fo bullets in a matrix style spins and really cool
\-4 / Jace see sword man with blades, sword man spins it, but then indy jones puts on hat and shoots soword man! OWHOA
