The Third CCC&G Pro Tour
We Make the Set II: Into The Core
Hello and welcome to the third CCC&G Pro Tour! In an effort to take a bit of the load off Megiddo's shoulders, I'll be hosting it this time around. (This also frees up another spot on points, but that's another matter entirely.)
In honor of it being the middle of Magic 2014 spoiler season, this time around we're making a core set. Some of you may have seen the somewhat scatterbrained efforts at producing Core Flamingo last year - if you haven't, I recommend looking at that thread over in Custom Set Creation - and may justifiably be worried.
I'm here to ease your worries. This is organized in a [I]much[/I] better fashion.
First, the details of the Standard environments that this Core set will overlap:
The preceding block is [I]Eye of Abydos[/I]. As expected from the name, it has an extremely heavy Egyptian-mythology theme, with Cats, Hounds, and Insects being three of the major tribes.
In addition, the following mechanics show up:
Mono-hybrid ((2/W),(2/U),(2/B),(2/R),(2/G))
"graveyard matters" (both size and presence of specific things)
-1/-1 counters
However, neither wither nor infect show up in this block.
The next block, meanwhile, is [I]Return to Kamigawa[/I]! Unlike the last two returns to existing planes, there's quite a time gap between now and when we last saw Kamigawa - on the order of a few hundred years. In fact, [I]Return to Kamigawa[/I]'s story kicks off when Tamiyo finally returns...
Returning mechanics from original Kamigawa are ninjutsu and the moonfolk "return lands" mechanic. In addition, this set is heavier on multicolor (but not hybrid) than the original Kamigawa block was.

I'm calling it right now- worst rare in the set. Even good limited players will find better bombs at common and uncommon no sweat. Worst. Episode. Ever.
I really do predict this to be our worst rare in set award winner. I'd be happier opening a jar of eyeballs, so I think anything worse is highly unlikely. This card wont just have zero constructed potential, but not be significantly better than a mass of ghouls in a draft.

Possibly. I may adjust the number of commons instead.
Also, M14 has at least two common artifacts, so that's a new "most at common" record.
arbitraryarmor's round of Flamingo Shui needs to be skipped for this PT season, but it can go into the next one if he posts some more rounds.

I can tell you right now that it's five rounds followed by a cut to a Top 8 single-elimination system. There is a scoring system for the first five rounds.
That's certainly fair. I think we're a far cry from eight though, ha.
Yeah, changed the skeleton slightly. Dropped it to four common artifacts, got rid of one rare artifact, and then used those five slots to give each color one more common. Seems closer to right now, I think. (At this point it's just a guideline anyway; tweaks of a couple of cards in terms of rarity counts are still a possibility up until we cut to Top 8.)

We Make the Set II: Into The Core
Hello and welcome to the third CCC&G Pro Tour! In an effort to take a bit of the load off Megiddo's shoulders, I'll be hosting it this time around. (This also frees up another spot on points, but that's another matter entirely.)
In honor of it being the middle of Magic 2014 spoiler season, this time around we're making a core set. Some of you may have seen the somewhat scatterbrained efforts at producing Core Flamingo last year - if you haven't, I recommend looking at that thread over in Custom Set Creation - and may justifiably be worried.
