Definitely grateful to Indighost for posting for the 4th, but what timezone are we on? There are still almost 2 hours to midnight US Eastern. More importantly, there is another card and two votes on the 3rd thread that don't seem to have been incorporated into the 4th thread.
The turnover time is usually 10 PM EST, not midnight.
And I added in the last entry to today's thread, but if you do in fact post after the new day's thread goes up, it's the judge's discretion whether to edit your post in.
Captain Ramirez2UB
Legendary Creature — Human Pirate (R)
Whenever Captain Ramirez becomes the target of a spell or ability, it can’t be blocked this turn.
Whenever one or more Pirates you control deal combat damage to a player, that player discards a card. 3/3
lol sure I accept tribute card bribes, how did you know
For each card you discard, each opponent discards two. For each life you pay for this card effect, each opponent pays twice to a minimum of 4 life remaining. For each creature you sacrifice, each opponent sacrifices 2. For each land you sacrifice, your opponent sacrifices two. Exile after use.
Under the influence of his Meekstone and Gix, the Qadir lost his last grip on reality.
Hi thesedaiv, I'd suggest that you spend some time researching how effects are worded using Gatherer, Scryfall etc. if you want positive feedback on your cards.
This particular one should say something like:
Discard any number of cards. For each card discarded this way, each opponent discards two cards. (See Last Rites)
Pay X life. Each opponent loses twice X life. If this would reduce their life total to less than 4 life, it reduces it to 4 life instead. (Best guess off Angel's Grace.)
Sacrifice any number of creatures. For each creature sacrificed this way, each opponent sacrifices two creatures. (Vicious Betrayal etc.)
Sacrifice any number of lands. For each land sacrificed this way, each opponent sacrifices two lands.
Exile Mishra's Psychosis.
This is almost certainly too many words to appear on a real card without the flavor text, and it's also massively overpowered. For 5 mana, you can halve your resources to completely eliminate the opponent's resources and put them at 4. There's an interesting concept here, but you need to take some time to work through the wordings and compare it to existing cards to find the appropriate cost (which is like, 10??).

I had this one in mind (along with Oraxid Mentalist) weeks ago. You may be glossing over the obvious answer.
Well now I should share for the new generation as if anyone else is listening to me
Basically, in the old days we were kind of unsure what was going on with Italian Ramirez de Pietro but the pose looked close enough to Gerrard Capashen that someone in my playgroup decided "she" was Gerrard's mom, and she joined a literal shoebox-sized deck of terrible/foreign/not even Magic cards called "100 to the X" that is its own format something like what came to be known as Stack (shared deck). At one point the deck was diluted with too many not funny cards or something and Gerrard's Mom led a rebellion to secede and make a new deck, but also you can play 100 to the X against other decks for entire deck ante if the other deck loses, and somehow that happened later and her deck got reabsorbed...or something.
Hmm, in hindsight Meteor Swarm should be "destroy up to four target lands. For each land destroyed this way, meteor swarm deals 2 damage to that land's controller and to each creature they control."
I hope that was clear. It would be pretty bad if a 9-mana spell Sorrow's Pathed you for each land you blew up.
It was intended to be a reference to D&D's iconic 9th-level spell Meteor Swarm that creates four individual AoE blasts.
Master of ContingenciesWW
Creature - Human Adviser Soldier (R)
When ~ enters the battlefield and at the beginning of the pre-combat main phase on each turn, each opponent may reveal any number of cards from their hand.
During combat opponents may not cast spells from their hands that were not revealed to ~ this turn.
2/2
The way it's worded it needs the ETB: If you cast it on your main phase (viz. normally cast it), since it triggers on main phase, it won't trigger because it wasn't around at the beginning of the phase that turn. So the turn it comes into play, it won't give opponents the chance to reveal anything and they just can't cast spells during combat that turn. Maybe this isn't too bad Grand Abolisher does something similar, but I didn't want it to do something different over multiple turns.
I originally wanted it to trigger at the beginning of combat, but then it's static ability would leave a window where your opponent can't cast spells while the trigger is on the stack, which is ... weird. I didn't want to mention different steps of combat on the card since wotc doesn't like doing that, too complex for newer players. Putting an ETB and moving it to mainphase was the best I could come up with. It kind of has to happen on a different phase to avoid this window of silence, and I didn't want the card to give you a spot on your turn where you could always resolve instants without your opponents responding. But to note, if you do manage to flash this into play during combat your opponents can't cast spells with the trigger on the stack. This is acceptable since it requires other cards to do and can only happen once.
The better way to do it would have been to make it all one ability, instead of breaking it out into two lines of text, one triggered and one static ability.
Yeah, there must be a way to do it as one ability.
"At the beginning of combat on your turn, each opponent may reveal any number of cards from their hand. Until end of turn, those players can't cast spells that weren't revealed in this way."
This? Double negative is awkward..."can't cast unrevealed spells" has no precedent and is also weird though.
I did mistakenly read it as "beginning of combat phase" instead of "pre-combat main phase" somehow.
"At the beginning of combat, each opponent may reveal any number of cards from their hand. This combat phase, each of those players may only cast spells with the names of cards they revealed this way."
is probably how I would have done it if I could do it again. I think you'd have to tie it to the name: I don't think the game can track revealed cards over time in the way this card wants to. This wording allows for a player to reveal 1 shock and cast any number, which is still interesting in it's own way.
In combat is the most intuitive place for this trigger to happen, so it makes sense that you would have read it like that.
Having the abilities be separate is interesting in it's own way, since any way to kill the Master of Contingencies mid-combat, unlocks everyones' spells, so your opponents only ever have to show a shock and can threaten anything else, vicariously. I like this as a work around since it benefits each player who understands this aspect of the card, but a clearer, more elegantly written card is better than a confusing one with some interesting scenarios that result from it.
I think it would make sense as a Blue card, but I also think it makes sense as a Green card. Scout the borders is the card I was thinking of when I got the idea for it. Looking at 5 cards putting 1 to hand and some into the graveyard is green so those two parts make sense. Exiling is the same idea as putting to the graveyard, but usually worse so that should fit. Putting on top and on bottom like Telling Time is more blue than green, but is basically scrying with forced results. Scrying can be green (especially in large amounts) and forced (worse) scrying should fit green. Looking at large quantities of cards and manipulating them does have some precedent in green and this felt like a way to get some filtering into green, even if it's a little bit of a stretch.
<rant>FWIW, color pie isn't as important to mas as it is to most people. Most of the time "color pie" can be replaced with "tradition" which is less compelling. If the card Holistically, "Feels" like it could be the color it is, then i'm fine with it. The flavor I was going for with this card was, "every part of the buffalo has it's use and nature has a plan for all of it" which is a very green sentence. I tried to get this flavor across with the name, "Nature's Ingenuity" perhaps this is too oblique. I was remiss to not put put flavor text, not that I could put that exact sentence on a Magic card.
This card takes 2 of the top 5 and you keep them, and "dispose" of the other 3 in 3 different ways. Getting to keep any 2 of the top 5 feels more blue than green (green usually has to prove the card is a creature or land to put it into your hand), so maybe this is too pushed. 5 cards going to 5 different places could definitely create an out-of-color scenario that I may have missed. The problem with the current color pie, IMO, is that when there is a card that looks at 5 cards and does 5 different things with them, it "feels" blue because blue can do so many things according to it's color pie. It shouldn't be the case that this feels blue and not green, it should be the case that, no matter what color this was, it should feel like it overflows that one color (maybe it should have cost 1UG?). Holding an unbalanced color pie as sacrosanct isn't ever going to fix this. I'd rather "cheat" this into Green than switch it to blue because blue's color pie is so encompassing that it "could" be blue too</rant>
I do notice a trend in my cards where I try to "justify" card selection in colors besides blue because card selection is so inherently powerful and other colors should have access to it, with some stipulations.
Dunno how often I'll be able to do these but - why not, here are reviews for the submissions from the 3rd.
Indighost - Neat way to do a red Maro. The cast-from-graveyard bonus is pretty good design space and fitting for a rare. This combination of effects pleases me as I have been loving Heroic Reinforcements in M19 Limited. I like how it has the functionality of being a finisher in a box if you just cast it twice in a turn.
lookashiny - The flavor is perfect here. Just the sort of Zen, pointlessly slice-of-life card name that would have been used in the old Club Flamingo days. The mechanical part is the polar opposite. This is such an abysmal card that there would be no point to ever playing it; even Sorrow's Path has a unique effect and is the only or best enable for certain combos. In Constructed, there's no reason not to play, for example, Life Goes On (not itself a very good card, but if you need the lifegain); in Limited, this effect is completely worthless for the cost and is effectively a waste of a third turn.
Flintlock - I can only say I'm glad Grim Ledger is legendary. This is really efficient at killing, particularly (and irksomely) at killing commanders. In fact, with other removal backing it up it can easily spiral out of control into a soft lock. I would personally move the life loss into part of the upkeep trigger.
Subject16 - Amazing name. I hope the callback to Mortus Strider was intentional. This card does a lot, none of it actually impacting the board state, so on the balance I think the costing is fair. The "graveyard from anywhere" clause is great lenticular design and I love this as the top enabler of a surveil combo deck.
soramaro - Modal Chinese-menu multicolor design is seemingly one of the most obvious kind of designs there is, and yet this effect has never been done. Just speaks to the sheer amount of design space that still exists. Anyway, this is a nice Vorthos AND Melvin card, and I'd love it in Limited.
netn10 - This looks, on one hand, dangerous and insane, and on the other, just the shot in the arm red needs in Commander. It'd be a big risk printing this but one I'd be willing to take.
Raptorchan - Neat! Just... neat. If you want more than that, well, I want to see green do more of growing its opponents' creatures as a drawback.
Antiantiserum - A 0/1 Germ sort of offends me because it's so little different than the original 0/0. If this made Pest tokens I'd be happier with it, because I'm neurotic about these things. Also, the whole combination of things where you get a "free" crewing thanks to the ETB trigger AND it's evasive so it's easier for it to crew "itself" bugs me by making the whole mythic-Vehicle-bomb dealie too easy. This certainly isn't as broken as Batterskull but it conceptually sure feels like it.
I wasn't really thinking about it in Brawl/1v1 Commander. I was more thinking of it regarding either constructed (where it's 4+ mana for super slow removal) or in multiplayer where, since you only get one trigger, there's some politics to it. That said, it was originally 4BB. 3BB might've been better.
For the DCC, how does voting work? Do you vote as you submit your cards? If so, are you voting for that day's cards?
It's all pretty simple. The previous day's cards are quoted in the OP. When you post you name the two contestants who made the cards from the opening post you like the best along with posting your own entry. You'll be able to see how it's done just by looking at a daily thread.
Flatline gave me some critique and said that the creatures dealing damage to their owners on my removal spell is an upside. I thought it would be a downside, which is why I made my card cheaper. How is it an upside? (Not that I don't believe Flatline, I'm just wondering how that works)

Because if you cast a mass removal spell odds-on your opponents will have way more and more powerful creatures. Therefore the spell will twice-over hurt them way more than you. If you, the spell's controller, took damage equal to the power of every exiled creature it might be more acceptable.
And I added in the last entry to today's thread, but if you do in fact post after the new day's thread goes up, it's the judge's discretion whether to edit your post in.
