Guesswork - Nice variation on the Hunted cycle from original Ravnica (if I remember correctly). Unfortunately, that's a cycle I don't like that much, as I don't like cards that give something to the opponent. The design looks fine, it's just not for me.
Well, I've been on a Commander / multiplayer kick lately, and this card is part of that kick.
The Hunted cycle is one of the most accidentally-awesome political cycles for multiplayer, ever. It's what Plankton should be (i.e., intelligent and selective about who it feeds).
Don't get me wrong Cryo, I like the card quite a bit, which is why I gave it an HM (today had some really good cards IMO), but I still feel like you could've gotten away with making it a much larger creature, a 3/4 flyer even (to keep it out of Bolt range). I immediately thought about what a potentially quick mill clock this card could be, but I feel like you're underestimating how powerful giving your opponent a free Ancestral Recall every turn can be. I think this card would (as you have it) see some kitchen table and EDH play, but I think it would most likely be chewed up in competitive Modern. I feel like combo decks such as Bloom Titan and Storm would love to see this card come down on the other side of the table. Even non-combo decks would draw their answer to this and ride out the card advantage until the last minute. Even if this did end up seeing competitive Modern a play, eventually people would just side in one Emrakul to stop it. Of course I could be completely wrong about all this, I've never claimed to have any idea what I'm talking about.

Again... no. I fail to see how reliably killing your opponent on turn 4 constitutes a drawback.
D'OH! I didn't think of milling at all, and I didn't understand the purpose of the card at all. I just thought that was meant to be an ordinary drawback, because it just looks like one (and honestly if you're not into milling it is). I just completely misunderstood the card, I'm sorry. It can happen.

@CryoZenith... I'm still pretty sure that if you let certain decks in Modern (Storm, Bloom Titan, Splinter Twin if it's on the play, etc) draw 27 cards during your third turn, then pass the turn (the scenario you laid out above), you're going to lose. Right? I suppose you could possibly pull it off against some of the non-combo decks though. Also, please understand, I like the card, I ain't tryin' to hate. That's not my style.

Flatline: This seems reasonably costed, though I'll bet R&D are sufficiently paranoid of control effects to push it to 4.
This is spot on. I thought about the cost on this quite a bit, and almost went . I feel like that makes the card too weak to see much play though. In the end, I decided to add white to the card as a way to tone it down a bit while still keeping it at 3 CMC. I wasn't sure if people would balk at the idea of this card being white though, it certainly doesn't have to be, but white is the first color that comes to mind for me when I think of defender (although blue can also give things defender), the flavor fits with white, and white has gotten a few creature stealing cards in the past (although it hasn't gotten one I can think of in long time). I guess what I'm trying to say is, white isn't totally out of place on the card. Right?
Edit: BTW, the 3 CMC is why this card ended up being a rare. In Flatline land, this card would still be an UC though, even at 3 cmc.

I really like these Cornerstone designs, but Ruby Cornerstone is just WAY too good -- ramp, repeatable removal, and repeatable card advantage at uncommon is just crazy. It's significantly better than Outpost Siege at a cheaper cost. I do love the ideas of these designs, though.
Actually, it's not removal as it can only target opponents. It cannot target creatures, and it was intentional. You may be right that it's still too good though, it would need to be playtested. There is still the option to not make them all cost the same amount of mana, being colored artifacts that give you three modes and you have to choose one with the first always being adding mana of the artifact's color should be more than enough to tie them together as a cycle even if you give them different mana costs.
Ruby Cornerstone2R
Artifact (U) T: Choose one —
• Add R to your mana pool.
• Ruby Cornerstone deals 1 damage to target opponent.
• Exile the top card of your library. If it’s a nonland card, you may play it this turn. “Freedom and action are the cornerstones of victory.”

Force Spike can potentially counter anything for U as well
Yes, but it has an "unless" clause and it's from quite a long time ago. I'm not sure how it fits today's design standards.
Also, I kind of based it off of the idea that my card is to Cancel as Murderous Cut is to Murder. Seem pretty appropriate to me.
That comparison is very reasonable, but would you really want your card to be potentially stronger than Counterspell, which is a card that today doesn't get reprinted because it's considered too strong?

Thanks Bravelion. Somehow I knew you'd step up. I actually PMed Guesswork right before I posted last night, and he has been so kind as to accept the assignment. If you want to do it though Lion, you could probably convince him to let you. But that's up to you guys. Either way, I know the thread will be in good hands. BTW, I will continue to post the thread through the first week of May (unless Lion wants to take over on the 1st). Also, I'm not sure what Guesswork intends to do for posting time yet. Have people been hating the late night posts? I hope not because I'll probably take the thread back over in June (or at some point, barring the return of MD), and that's the only time I can post it regularly.

Ancient of Balance1U
Creature - Avatar
Ancient of Balance enters the battlefield under no player's control.
5/5
Is this doable?
Unfortunately, no. The CR have this to say (emphasis mine):
Quote from Comprehensive Rules (DTK Edition) »
110.2. A permanent’s owner is the same as the owner of the card that represents it (unless it’s a token; see rule 110.5a). A permanent’s controller is, by default, the player under whose control it entered the battlefield. Every permanent has a controller.
Also, a controller is needed for the process of casting (again emphasis mine):
Quote from Comprehensive Rules (DTK Edition) »
601.2a The player announces that he or she is casting the spell. That card (or that copy of a card) moves from where it is to the stack. It becomes the topmost object on the stack. It has all the characteristics of the card (or the copy of a card) associated with it, and that player becomes its controller. The spell remains on the stack until it’s countered, it resolves, or an effect moves it elsewhere.
608.3. If the object that’s resolving is a permanent spell, its resolution involves a single step (unless it’s an Aura). The spell card becomes a permanent and is put onto the battlefield under the control of the spell’s controller.
Also, if it has no controller, who can declare it as an attacker or blocker? If an effect requires a player to do something to the creature, who does it? In the end, that is definitely not doable in the rules as they are now.

lol... wonderful.
Also, I'm happy to keep the DCC at its current time if I'm taking the reins again next week. I might miss a night or two but I'll get it up first thing in the AM if that's the case (unless somebody else does it first, which is absolutely fine).
I'm glad to hear you're going to keep the new time Guesswork. Nobody has taken the opportunities I've given for them to complain about it, so I take that as a sign that people at least don't hate it. I do feel like switching the time too frequently would get annoy people though.

Edit: Piar, CryoZenith
@FortuitousEntity...Wouldn't your card be able to loop itself? Thus letting you draw and discard however many cards you want on your second turn? I could be mistaken.
You are mistaken, for a couple of reasons. First, and most important, no replacement effect can apply to a given event more than once - otherwise Thought Reflection would draw infinite cards. Second, even if that wasn't true, you have to discard before you draw, and each time you apply the ability you go down a card, which means you'll have to stop sooner or later.

Second, even if that wasn't true, you have to discard before you draw, and each time you apply the ability you go down a card, which means you'll have to stop sooner or later.
Sorry, I'm an idiot. I shouldn't post things late at night after a few drinks.
614.5. A replacement effect doesn't invoke itself repeatedly; it gets only one opportunity to affect an event or any modified events that may replace it.
Example: A player controls two permanents, each with an ability that reads "If a creature you control would deal damage to a creature or player, it deals double that damage to that creature or player instead." A creature that normally deals 2 damage will deal 8 damage -- not just 4, and not an infinite amount.

Destroy target enchantment. Its controller may search his or her library for an enchantment card with a different name, put it onto the battlefield, then shuffle his or her library.
Nothing new to be frank, other than it's black. This would have to be G and/or W. (Or wait, is this for your alt color pie project?) Whatever the color, it's Tinker for enchantments - i.e. busted.

EDIT: So many great designs to choose from today (Apr5). Can't decide but must...
The Hunted cycle is one of the most accidentally-awesome political cycles for multiplayer, ever. It's what Plankton should be (i.e., intelligent and selective about who it feeds).
The Ruststormer is always right.
D'OH! I didn't think of milling at all, and I didn't understand the purpose of the card at all. I just thought that was meant to be an ordinary drawback, because it just looks like one (and honestly if you're not into milling it is). I just completely misunderstood the card, I'm sorry. It can happen.

Sure thing Scooby!
Come join us Rudyard. You know you wanna.
I always assumed you were a bottomless well of ideas.
Artifact (U)
T: Choose one —
• Add R to your mana pool.
• Ruby Cornerstone deals 1 damage to target opponent.
• Exile the top card of your library. If it’s a nonland card, you may play it this turn.

Yes, but it has an "unless" clause and it's from quite a long time ago. I'm not sure how it fits today's design standards.
That comparison is very reasonable, but would you really want your card to be potentially stronger than Counterspell, which is a card that today doesn't get reprinted because it's considered too strong?
I may be able to do it, but I would need to post the thread a few hours earlier than you usually do. If that's not a problem and nobody else is volunteering, I'm here. Just let me know.

Unfortunately, no. The CR have this to say (emphasis mine):
Also, a controller is needed for the process of casting (again emphasis mine):
Also, if it has no controller, who can declare it as an attacker or blocker? If an effect requires a player to do something to the creature, who does it? In the end, that is definitely not doable in the rules as they are now.

Thanks
I tried to find some homunculus art to help get it across but couldn't find anything decent that wasn't already Magic art.
Also, I'm happy to keep the DCC at its current time if I'm taking the reins again next week. I might miss a night or two but I'll get it up first thing in the AM if that's the case (unless somebody else does it first, which is absolutely fine).
You are mistaken, for a couple of reasons. First, and most important, no replacement effect can apply to a given event more than once - otherwise Thought Reflection would draw infinite cards.
