Ethereal Theft2UB
Sorcery (R)
Search target player's library for a card and manifest it. That player shuffles his or her library.
I just wanted to point out while Ethereal Theft seems to be the winning card for the day, that this is the type of manifest card Wizards specifically said they decided against printing as it would be too powerful. This plus a flicker effect = easy Eldrazi/Progentius/etc, getting around their reanimation clauses. Not to mention non creature permanents too. You don't even need to draw them. Every card printed after and before would have to be considered on how much impact it would have being cheated into play through this method. I'm not sure how everyone felt on that.
So Piar, I've like a lot of what you submit, but that's why I didn't follow suit in voting for you today.
Amorphous Mass5
Artifact (MR)
Play with the top card of your library revealed.
If the top card of your library is a permanent card, Amorphous Mass is a copy of that card, but maintains this ability.
it keeps the second ability after changing, but it would lose the first ability and the second one doesn't work without the first.
it would work if it was all one ability: "Play with the top card of your library revealed. As long as that card is a permanent card, Amorphous Mass is a copy of it, except it still has this ability."
of course, if the top card is an Aura or a planeswalker, the Mass will immediately go to graveyard. would change "permanent card" to "artifact, creature or land." this also makes sense flavorwise, since shapeshifting into an abstract concept doesn't make much sense but most enchantments are abstract concepts.
Norendai, Controller of Mortality1WB
Planeswalker - Norendai (M)
+2 You gain 2 life.
0 Target opponent loses 2 life.
-15 You get an emblem with "Your can't lose the game and your opponents can't win the game."
2
since emblems can't be removed, your opponents either have to find a way to force a draw or concede. this ultimate might as well just say "you win the game."
it keeps the second ability after changing, but it would lose the first ability and the second one doesn't work without the first.

Oh yeah, I didn't think of that consequence. I'll update the card in my file to only look at artifacts, creatures or lands. It's amazing how simple concepts are always so difficult to explain in rules text.
@Indighost....I might just be an idiot but, I'm not sure how your card works. It reads "As long as your devotion to any color is less than 4, ~ isn't a creature." Does that mean that you need to have at least 4 devotion to each of the 5 colors? Or do you just need 4 devotion to any 1 color. I'm assuming the it's supposed to be the second one, but I feel like with the way it's worded, it should be the first one. I'm not sure the "isn't a creature" wording works very well on a card like this. Maybe the card would be less confusing if it was just an enchantment worded something like this.."As long as your devotion to any color is 4 or more, Dormant Idol is an Avatar enchantment creature with lifelink and base power and toughness 4/4." Again, sorry if I'm just an idiot, I'm probably the only one that finds the wording confusing.

Votes: IcariiFA, Rudyard (Mmmmm...That's good flavor.)
@Bravelion...This is the card I would've posted in the last round of the December MCC if I had more time (I probably wouldn't have included the flavor text, as I don't think it fits). I'm not sure if it would've fared any better.
Heartless Miser
Creature - Human Advisor (R)
, Sacrifice another creature you control: Put a colorless artifact token named Gold onto the battlefield. It has "Sacrifice this artifact: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool."
At the beginning of each upkeep, if your devotion to white is greater than your devotion to black, untap Heartless Miser and transform it.
2/2
"Bah humbug!"
//
Beloved Philanthropist
Creature - Human Advisor (R)
, Sacrifice an artifact named Gold: Return target creature card converted mana cost three or less from your graveyard to the battlefield.
At the beginning of each upkeep, if your devotion to black is greater than your devotion to white, untap Beloved Philanthropist and transform it.
2/2
"God bless us, everyone!"
For reference, Flatline's card in the December MCC finals was this:
Conflicted Miser
Creature - Human Advisor (R)
, Sacrifice another creature: Put an artifact token named Gold onto the battlefield. Activated this ability only if your devotion to black is three or more.
, Sacrifice three artifacts named Gold: Return target creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield. Activate this ability only if your devotion to white is three or more.
1/4
@Flatline: The two cards are not that different in my opinion, where you would have surely gained a lot with the new card (at least in my judging) is Creativity, because a double-faced card with devotion as its transforming mechanism is very original. I don't know if that would have been enough to change the outcome, though. Well, by now we'll never know. For what it counts, I like that card more as a double-faced card personally. I can also confirm you the flavor text doesn't fit there on either side of the card, even though I would like very much the flavor text to fit on the Philanthropist's side, as it's a quote from a song by my favourite band (Linkin Park, "The Catalyst").

(I have a very big one that I'm working on right now but that's private for now, and I don't know if I will ever actually publish it, and I also have ideas for multiple future ones, including one where I'm going to reprise Jeff.)
Thank you for your thorough response Bravelion! You do excellent work and are a credit to the CCC forums! As I believe I stated in the MCC discussion thread at the time, I never intended for Conflicted Miser to be my final entry (between the fact that the round ended on New Year's Eve, and I kept forgetting the rounds were ending earlier than midnight, I just ran out of time.)
For any that are interested, the challenge for the round Bravelion and I are talking about is as follows.....
Main challenge: design a card that either has chroma, has devotion, or somehow counts mana symbols (all of them or only a subset).
Subchallenge 1: The card is gold (hybrid does NOT count).
Subchallenge 2: The card has a link to the winter holidays in the spirit of the holiday cards, but it makes sense in black border.
In case anybody is wondering, my card is supposed to Ebenezer Scrooge (the 3 or less CMC creature being returned is supposed to be Tiny Tim).
Edit: By the way, my transform version would've failed subchallenge 1 right?

Yes, I remember something like that. That was to make the deadlines more comfortable to me, but I learned that lesson, and in fact in February CCL (which round 1 I will post in a couple days) I go back to the usual midnight deadline.

Technically yes, but as I often like to remember, sometimes it's better to fail a subchallenge to get a higher overall score. I don't know if that would have been your case, but it very well might.

I'm all for pushing the boundaries of what's acceptable in MTG, but unless I'm missing something, refine would fundamentally change the game of Magic. If 14 cards were printed with this ability, it would be possible to make a deck of 53 refine cards and the 7 cards you need to win 1st turn, every time. Basically, it would negate the "Decks must have a minimum of 60 cards" rule.
Well, so far there's just a single card.
I wasn't really interested in the question of how to scale it up to the level of a set- or block-mechanic when I posted it. Maybe it only ever ends up on five cards, like offering or hideaway? It certainly does sweeten the pot for combo, doesn't it?
Congrats on the win, BTW. Couldn't quite catch you!
Thanks Guesswork. I thought you were gonna catch me for sure! (or Rudyard or radio) Keep up the good work and good luck in Feb!
As far as refine goes...I'm sorry for calling out the ability, I usually I try to avoid such things, but I think if refine was printed on even five cards, the game of Magic would literally cease to exist (actually, they'd just get banned). I'm not trying to be dramatic here either. Five refine cards, plus Gitaxian Probe would essentially allow people to play 36 card decks. I'm pretty sure that would be bad. Anyway, you could probably get away with one card like this, just drop the keyword ability.
Of course, I could be wrong about all this, the card did get 3 votes.

Still have to hope you can do anything useful at that point, especially considering that you're now down to 2 life and tapped out. (Otherwise it's a quick way to dump thirteen cards into your graveyard.)
Sigiled Borderguard2U
Creature - Human Wizard (R)
Flying
When Sigiled Borderguard enters the battlefield, if W was spent to cast it, put a +1/+1 counter on it and it gains protection from red.
When Sigiled Borderguard enters the battlefield, if G was spent to cast it, put a +1/+1 counter on it and it gains protection from black.
1/1
it would be good to have one of these abilities grant two +1/+1 counters to differentiate it from the other. this is how Volvers such as Anavolver are designed which i imagine is a memory helper.

I really like Cryo's card the way it is. It's one of the four cards I'd really like to vote for tomorrow (good stuff today). If you're suggesting this should possibly be 4/4 flying, pro red/black creature, I would think you'd have to bump up the cost by 1, which would throw off the balance that has been achieved. That's just my 2 cent though.
Edit: Make that five cards. Dandelion Commando is awesome! I mean its name is Dandelion Commando! I actually made a card somewhat similar to this a while back, except it had hexproof as long as it was tapped and gained loyalty counters which eventually turned him into a planeswalker. It was a pretty crazy card.

So Piar, I've like a lot of what you submit, but that's why I didn't follow suit in voting for you today.
it keeps the second ability after changing, but it would lose the first ability and the second one doesn't work without the first.
it would work if it was all one ability: "Play with the top card of your library revealed. As long as that card is a permanent card, Amorphous Mass is a copy of it, except it still has this ability."
of course, if the top card is an Aura or a planeswalker, the Mass will immediately go to graveyard. would change "permanent card" to "artifact, creature or land." this also makes sense flavorwise, since shapeshifting into an abstract concept doesn't make much sense but most enchantments are abstract concepts.
since emblems can't be removed, your opponents either have to find a way to force a draw or concede. this ultimate might as well just say "you win the game."
Oh yeah, I didn't think of that consequence. I'll update the card in my file to only look at artifacts, creatures or lands. It's amazing how simple concepts are always so difficult to explain in rules text.
Memento Mori, if the nineth lion ate the sun.
out of respect for a classic, i couldnt vote for ball lightning gettn strictly-bettered

• The two public custom sets I've been part a part of the design team for:
"Brotherhood of Ormos" - Blog post with all info - set thread - design skeleton / card list || "Extinctia: Homo Evanuit" - Blog post with all info - set thread - card list spreadsheet
• "The Lion's Lair", my article series about MTG and custom card design in particular. Latest article here. Here is the article index. Rather outdated by now, and based on the old MCC rubric, but I'm leaving this here for anybody that might be interested anyway.
• My only public attempt at being a writer: the story of my Leonin custom planeswalker Jeff Lionheart. (I have a very big one that I'm working on right now but that's private for now, and I don't know if I will ever actually publish it, and I also have ideas for multiple future ones, including one where I'm going to reprise Jeff.)
For any that are interested, the challenge for the round Bravelion and I are talking about is as follows.....
(Probably NSFW) So you may have heard I'm trying to write a TV series...

Thank you very much!

Sorry Bravelion, I don't mention the earlier deadline as a complaint, nor an excuse, you certainly have the right to live somewhere other than the American east coast.
Edit: On another note....Rudyard, I hope you have your dancing shoes ready, I'm fading faster than a Figment of War.
No problem, I had already decided to do that anyway.

Thanks Rudyard. We'll see. I'm starting to think I might not completely suck at making cards.
By the way, thanks for not posting a card on the last day again Rudyard. I'm starting to think that maybe Mr 5 Time Winner is trying to give someone else a chance to feel the sunshine.
Agonizing Demise
This is bonkers. 1st Turn: Swamp, Lotus Petal, double Dark Ritual, Lich's Bargain, draw twenty cards. Destined to be banned and restricted. I love it!

it would be good to have one of these abilities grant two +1/+1 counters to differentiate it from the other. this is how Volvers such as Anavolver are designed which i imagine is a memory helper.
