I guess we will go ahead and take people off the list if they pass on a month, although they can of course request to be put back on at the bottom. It may be possible to make exceptions if someone can't host that month but could host the next, or something like that.
Its looking that I might win one of these things at some point. If I do, I would love to host. (I would want to host knowing how everything works, so I suppose I need to be at least a finalist)
There have been some questions brought up in Round 3 this month about dropping and how to encourage people to stay in. I think the issue of people dropping out can't really be helped; it's not like we should devise a way for people who can't play any more to win the month. But the CCL is hurt a bit since dropping makes the teams unbalanced.
My first and only thought at the moment is to encourage a more fluid team structure, such that teams are decided at the close of a round and thereby include only the people who have posted for that round. I'll leave it to the mathematicians to confirm whether a fair scoring system is possible in this sort of situation, given that we also have the possibility of entries without critiques.
I feel it's important to maintain the status of the CCL as a popular and easy to join competition, founded on the principle of frequent peer evaluation. Hopefully with peer input we can continue to improve the contest and keep it running strong.
I agree. I'm sure that nobody who joins the competition truly just wants to drop, but a lot can happen in a month. I expected this one to lose a few people due to the starting of school, but there was indeed an awful lot more drops than usual.
I do like the idea of making teams after entries are in, also I was thinking that maybe a more strict ruling on people just not leaving their entries, since most people who miss one almost CAN'T win, so they drop anyways.

Well, technically, the new grading system was made so that even if a person doesn't do as well in one of them, they can still come back strong in the other two to get in the top 2 (it happened when i was running the CCL). I agree its an uphill battle, but still.

Take a mechanic from the pre-mirrodin era, and a mechanic after the mirrodin era, and create a card that flavorfully melds both mechanics.
I agree with the rearranging of teams after each round, as some teams (with 3 or less people) are guaranteed to ALWAYS get some amount of points... whereas those with 6 aren't... it gives some folks an unfair advantage....
That said, after each round, i think the # of folks still playing should be randomized into new even-distributed teams.
And yea, school starting back is probably a MAJOR factor in the number of drops this month... I know after next Tuesday, it's going to be rough for me, as I'm starting grad school *AND* will be teaching 20 hours a week.

"Here only miracles. Here, only the rising of spirit. And yes, love if it was pertinent (which it was so often); and sometimes bloodletting. But never the prosaic, never the trivial. Here the man who brought the strangest tale was the most welcome. Here every excess was celebrated if it brought visions, and every vision analyzed for the hints it held to the nature of the Everlasting." - Clive Barker's Imajica

True (almost forgot about the new system). I do think the team system needs to be updated though. Maybe if one winds up like mine & GM's, we can redo the teams because frankly, its just not as much fun when it's just 3 people in a team.
Right, so the idea of reassigning teams each round (possibly with a smaller number of members as people drop) is fine. Is it still fair to compare scores based on the current (new) scoring system? Of course it's still not perfect, but the percent system gives everyone a possible total of 100 per round, so random redistribution each round should be reasonable.
The only potential downside I see at the moment is that it's nice to go through the first three rounds and get (in theory) feedback from each of the other players, so you have a wide variety of opinions, while changing teams each round means there is a possibility of being critiqued by the same people each round.
Anybody else have thoughts?
I know I'm new to CCL, but I think the scoring system is adequate. Will have to give some thought to a critiquing method if team rearrangement is adopted... Perhaps if there was a way to ensure that you ended up on a different team each time, but always critiqued the same team... not exactly a random reassignment though...
@Gerrard's Mom: re: Your critique... Yea, I *definitely* would have gone a different route than the "rodeo clown" thing, if I'd known it was going to influence the rest of that cards for the month... When the first challenge simply said, make a planeswalker, of course I just drew inspiration from Adult Swim... heh, never again:) But then again, the restrictions that it brought along with it, have led me down some interesting paths....

For the time being, I will send out a PM to the first three people on the list. If I don't have any responses in three days, I'll move to the next three, and anyone who didn't respond will get dropped from the list.
Edit - Talore is out for now.
The Hall of Fame has been updated through last month and to indicate who has yet to receive trophies, as far as I can tell. Let me know if something is wrong. I tried {mikeyG} and Binary this time as the first administrators I was able to find (is there a list of admins somewhere?). I have never actually heard for sure, but I think it is only the admins who can give trophies, not Kraj or M_E.
You're not off the list, Doom Lich, I have you there after everyone who posted before you. There's a reasonable chance that it won't take 6 months to get to you, but at the very least next month is spoken for, and I have to keep to first come, first served.

Check out the thread for my cube if you have the time, and tell me how terrible it is.
Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)
I opened one last year, got two crap worldwake packs and 8x scathe zombies, which I promptly hid around my sister's apartment for her roommates to find. But, yeah, it was a piece of crap.
You, sir, have just won the internet. Congratulations.
Well, now that I've actually found this thread once again (What's keeping it from getting stickied?), I'd like to queue up to become a host for the CCL. Just to reaffirm in case it's been covered: Do I need to do anything special to become a host?
