I'll get a picture up for the CCL tonight - hard to do that on my laptop but will attend to it when I get home tonight. But the Round is up! Let's see some Dominaria love!
I took the Wizards image now on the round 2 page as suggestive that they were going to make Jhoira a new planeswalker. My desire is both for participants to have some choice in which planeswalker they design and for there to be an overlap in which planeswalkers are designed. 3 to 4 choices seems optimal. I think it's fun and enlightening to see how someone takes the same subject and designs it differently than you yourself did. Unless it is heretical for Jhoira to be a planeswalker, I'd like to keep her in. If she needs to be taken out, please offer one or two other names of Dominaria characters who could take her place.
It seems that mana costs of cards submitted today to the CCL and MCC have hidden mana costs. Hopefully the issue will be fixed tomorrow. If it isn't, feel free to submit your entry using written notation for mana costs (e.g. 1BB, 5G, UW).
I also expanded the Round 2 challenge to include any character you would like to see be a planeswalker in the upcoming set. Because this challenge is difficult I want to provide some amount of narrowing to give people a firmer place to start and launch their designs. I hope that people are excited about designing a planeswalker card for their favorite characters from a time during which no planeswalker cards were printed.
This is also happening in the DCC. Hopefully it's fixed soon. In the meantime, it seems to work if you make your mana symbols like this..... : symr: (without the space between the first colon and the s, if you don't put that space there, you get ).

I don't know if the second color for a Fox should be blue, it's kind of hard to imagine a Fox having a blue philosophy (probably Kitsune would have been a better pick), but i like the card overall.
Flatline: As with willows, the xhallenge called for an uncommon....
Dang it! I originally posted this as an UC, but I totally forgot that part of the challenge as I was tweaking the card. I've been rather distracted this month.

Yeah, like a hoser I designed my design in like fifteen minutes on two hours of sleep because I just didn't want to skip a CCL round. Mistakes were made!
re certain comments on my entry:
The following don't especially matter for the purposes of CCL because my card should be eliminated from the running this round anyway, but let's talk about this.
The challenge asks us, "An ideal design will highlight new possibilities opened up by the color extension."
So in this light, I think it's pretty silly to insist on "bounce lands" as a Moonfolk identity mechanic, for a number of reasons:
- It's pretty obvious that "land bounce" exists in the context of its block to support wisdom (i.e. "more cards in hand matters"). Wisdom is a Kamigawa block mechanic and there's no reason to assume that a block that returns Moonfolk would return wisdom also.
- Land bounce is clearly a blue mechanic, which isn't what's being asked for in the challenge.
- Most humanoid species creature types don't have a mechanical identity that narrow, and types introduced with a narrow identity (cf. Kor from Rath to Zendikar and beyond) are widened upon return.
Land-bounce is an unrepeatable identity that can't be extended into other colors meaningfully, so it can't be the identity that's being extended. So if we eliminate island-bounce, we're left with small flying humanoids who are nerdy and associated with the moon, which is like...plenty of identity IMO.
So I went back to the flavor: Moonfolk are a reference to the 'rabbit in the moon' legend that apparently exists in East Asia and some parts of South America. In China, the rabbit's said to be making immortality medicine, so I reenvisioned a Chinese-inspired Moonfolk subtribe who are associated with alchemy, and returned the divinity counter as a reference to the setting their kinfolk hailed from.
Again, the card's eliminated anyway, but I think we should be thoughtful about how tribes are being extended, and what's reasonable to expect to be retained and what's not.
Submissions are due today for the CCL Round 2, so y'all be sure to get your designs in. I'm enjoying reading these Round 2 submissions and am looking forward to seeing the remaining designs.

Creature - Moonfolk Wizard {U}
Flying
Exhaust two lands you control: Untap target creature. Prevent all combat damage that would be dealt to that creature this turn. (To exhaust a land, tap it. It doesn’t untap during your next untap step)
1/3
Flavor:
Same thing I said for willow applies here; Moonfolk is a wide open type having only been seen in the Kamigawa block and so is ripe with potential to be written in a new direction for the next visit there. White is a sensible color to pair with blue and evokes a studious wizardy feel. Given the effect of its ability, I might even suggest adding cleric onto its types. Also nice tie-in to Moonfolks' abilities messing with your lands with a new spin on it.
Mechanics:
I'm definitely a fan of the Maze of Ith effect, doubly so in Azorius. However this is notably a slightly different effect as it can target non-attacking creatures, prevent non-combat damage, but can't prevent target creature from dealing damage. I think you may need to up the cost to activate this; I imagine if Exhaust works anything like Exert then you'd be able to Exhaust 2 already tapped lands. That just seems too cheap given the tricks you could pull off with this effect (untapping things can get out of hand quickly). Hell, alternatively just removing the untap part completely would likely balance the effect out. In the end though, the card's concept is really sweet and would definitely be effective at what it wants to do.
Exhausting a land, while similar to exert, is different in that tapping it is part of the cost (as is spelled out in the reminder text), so you would not be able to exhaust already tapped lands.
Voting time is over! Kjsharp takes home the victory for January in this difficult challenge. Congratulations!
Thanks Icarii! I've learned so much from this forum over the past 9 months. I'm very happy I stumbled across it. Every round of this challenge was difficult, fun, stimulated whatever creative impulse I have, and pushed me to think in different ways.

Ha, well nobody got what I was referencing with Karona. That's my bad. The whole cycling thing and her two minus abilities playing off cycling (among other discard and draw effects) was based on the only cycle of cards Karona has appeared on herself: The Decree Cycle from Scourge.
Also, while I realize having her reference a set specific ability is unusual for a planeswalker, it is not unheard of.
I apologize for not giving very much time to do this. February is a short month. I would have preferred to give y'all 3 days, not 2. I will be giving these folks a chance to finish up their feedback and rankings, but they need to be done by the late afternoon today (the 13th).
Sure, I'll host this month. You can host it next month! I won't want to host twice in a row.

Luckily someone else on the internet made a list counting the different types. You can find it here, it's almost up to date even.
edit: There's also a list of tribal lords here, relatively up to date. This one is visual, a lot of images will load.
Oh, there is a text version.
I'll be posting Round 2 tomorrow.

Not my card, but Kitsune in Magic have the Fox creature type.
