My thoughts: according to both rules and tradition of the MCC, in round 1 the top 4 from each bracket have always advanced to round 2, then the top 2 in round 2 and the winners of the versus matches in round 3, which makes the final round automatically have a number of players equal to the number of judges, as void_nothing already mentioned. Obviously, in this case we can't have the top 4 advance as that would mean letting whole brackets in. The problem is not so much the fact that there are four judges in December, but the sensible drop in participation we have had compared to what it was some years ago. I've seen this drop myself during the many years by now that I've been an active member of the CCCG subforum, and I still have not fully understood what caused it. I do what I can to favor participation every time I host, and I'm sure every other host does too, but I'm not really sure we can do that much about it. For this month, I agree that making the top 3 advance to round 2 (12 people total) then going on as usual (top 2 in round 2 which makes 8 people in round 3, winners of versus matches in round 3 which makes the final round have 4 players) is the best course of action. I still remember fondly the time when it was a regular thing to have four judges (sometimes even five) each with a 6-8 player bracket in round 1. I miss those days. I would like to take this occasion to think together if there is anything we can do to go back to those days, or at least as close as we can.
In other news, we have a winner for November: rkohn1357! Congratulations to them!

The round have ended and all, but can you please explain why old Niv-Mizzet with mana cost 2UURR was marked as unable to pass the 1st subchallenge?
That looks like a mistake, considering Niv 1.0 has the same cost as Niv 2.0.
Oops. It is just an honest mistake on my part. Somehow my brain was thinking that Niv-Mizzet's mana cost was 4UR in the original Ravnica and was so sure about it that it didn't think to check. I should have remembered it, especially seeing it was my own very first set as a Magic player. I have a lot of fond memories from original Ravnica, but it looks like Niv-Mizzet's correct mana cost wasn't one! My bad, I'm sorry. Please, if I make such mistakes in writing a challenge, or any mistake for that matter, in the future in a month I am hosting, let me know as soon as you see it, don't wait until the round is over. It's not something that influences the scores.

Gentlemen, since InfinityDie is ignoring the challenge for the second time in a row, we have to somehow divide 7 players between 4 judges.
Any suggestions?
I understand things have been slow because of the holidays, but is anybody hosting January? My intention was to host the Ravnica Allegiance themed month on February, because I don't like doing that while we don't know the whole set yet, but I can probably find a way to anticipate that if needed. I would totally prefer someone else hosting January though and I do February.

Block A: Player 1, 2, 3
Block B: Player 4, 5
Block C: Player 6, 7
Everyone judges all blocks. Bottom player per block is eliminated.
EDIT: Or two judges judge blocks B and C, and two judges judge only block A.

• The two public custom sets I've been part a part of the design team for:
"Brotherhood of Ormos" - Blog post with all info - set thread - design skeleton / card list || "Extinctia: Homo Evanuit" - Blog post with all info - set thread - card list spreadsheet
• "The Lion's Lair", my article series about MTG and custom card design in particular. Latest article here. Here is the article index. Rather outdated by now, and based on the old MCC rubric, but I'm leaving this here for anybody that might be interested anyway.
• My only public attempt at being a writer: the story of my Leonin custom planeswalker Jeff Lionheart. (I have a very big one that I'm working on right now but that's private for now, and I don't know if I will ever actually publish it, and I also have ideas for multiple future ones, including one where I'm going to reprise Jeff.)
